Class 1W News - Rachel Watchirs
Kindergarten and Year 1 demonstrated such great
effort by participating in our school’s Cross Country.
We have been learning about events that happen
each season and as we
are in Autumn we have
been very busy getting
ready for Mother’s Day. A
big thank you to Kathleen
Brewster for offering her
materials and joining our
class to make our
Mother’s Day presents,
they are perfect for
capturing the light next to
a window.
This week we are focusing
on the sounds /h/ like in house and /j/ like in jelly.
Next week our sound is
/ai/ like in snail.
In Maths, we are
practising the counting
on strategy, this is when
we have to be able to
“hold” a quantity in our
mind and then add on to
it.
If you are available and
wanting to join us in the
classroom, we are looking
for parent helpers to listen
to our wonderful reading.
If there is a morning when
you have time to come in
and listen to students
read, please let me know.
Both Bournda and Journey of Hope notes have
been sent home, please return these notes as soon
as possible, thank you.
Happy Mother’s Day from everyone in Class 1W!
Class 2M News - Naomi Moore
This week I have been assessing all student’s reading
levels. Every student has shown good improvement in
reading and has reached their term 1 reading goal!
It is so exciting to see the children grow in ability and
confidence. I have noticed that those students who
read and swap their home readers regularly have
made the most progress. Thank you for supporting
your child!
Most students will be bringing home a new reading
folder with their current PM level and new goal for
term 2 written on their reading diary page. Please
check your child has theirs and that they are bringing
home the correct level (the level is on the back of the
book). We have been talking about the Goldilocks
zone in class; to optimise learning we need to read
books that are not too hard and not too easy - they
need to be just right! This is why levelled readers are
encouraged, even for students in year 3. Your child
may be able to read silently, but it is good to be close
by to help with tricky words. It is also good practice to
check their understanding with some questions when
they are finished reading.
2M is studying space in Science this term. The students
really enjoyed creating these symmetrical aliens last
week.
Well done all of the children who participated in the
School Cross Country last week.
Happy Mother’s Day to 2M mothers and carers.
Class 3R News - Chris Reeves
It was fantastic to feel so welcomed back by 3R and
the rest of the school this week. Many students
congratulated me on my wedding. I felt so proud to
show photos to 3R of my wedding and share my
experience with them.
Best of luck to all those students who are representing
our school and class, and are competing at the Zone
Cross Country at Wolumla Public School next week.
The Year 3 and Year 5 students will be participating in
NAPLAN next week. We will begin with Writing on
Tuesday, Reading and Language Conventions on
Wednesday and Numeracy on Thursday.
Unit 11 of home learning is due tomorrow, next week
Unit 12 is due and in the week 5 Unit 13 is due.
If there are any questions about NAPLAN or anything
that is happening the next few weeks please feel free
to contact me. Thanks Mr Reeve
Happy Mother’s Day to all of our wonderful mothers
and grandmothers from 3R.

Class 4BJ News - Suezanne Bourke/Sam Johnson
Assessment strategies have included assessment of
learning and for learning (what do I need to do next
to learn this?). The children are making their learning
visible through drawing, talking and demonstrating.
Working with a learning partner every child is
supported to learn deeply and to correct
misconceptions as they go. NAPLAN timetable will
start on Tuesday with Writing followed by reading and
Language Conventions on Wednesday and
Numeracy on Thursday. We will have the support of
extra teachers for Years 2, 4 and 6.
In History this week the impact of the Magna Carta
on the development of both the American and British
Constitutions influenced the development of
Australia’s constitution.
Unit 13 mentals will be due in 2 weeks (due to NAPLAN
next week), a couple of children are able to use this
time to catch up. Parents are asked to check
children’s work and assist along the way. Reading
every night is so important, children making the
greatest progress are practising their skills.
Craft making with Jenny and Jo gave every child the
opportunity to learn weaving skills while thinking
about how grateful we are to have such caring
mothers. Happy Mother’s Day to all of our mothers
and grandmothers who give so generously of their
love, time and patience. Parents please note there
has been a kind donation of adult novels to the
school, if you would like a novel or two please ring the
office and we can arrange to send them home.
