Oliver and Michael presented the STEM plan to the school assembly this morning! Dear parents and carers, This is the Trash Smashers from Stage 2, and we need your help to support us. We are trying to get more nude food at school because every year we are getting more and more soft plastic and it takes a long time to break down. Animals are eating the plastic that gets blown into the ocean and we need to save the animals because they need to live. Last year we did a waste audit at school and there was 63% soft plastic in our landfill bins. We want to limit the amount of soft plastic we use at school. Please use recyclable plastic, we want our animals to be healthy once more. For the canteen we are trying to get Fogo-able food and containers. Here’s what we need help with: • More nude food at school • Less soft plastic

How we can do this: • Send food in a recyclable container to school.

We are trying to limit the amount of times we use soft plastic and are trying to reuse recyclable and Fogo food. If you don’t know what food to send your kids, here is a recipe.

Candelo’s nut and dairy free muesli slice • 4 cups of quick oats • 2 cups of rolled oats • 2 cups of desiccated coconut • 2 cups of sultana roughly chopped • 1 table spoon of cinnamon • 2/3 cup of sunflower oil

Canteen Friday 26 June

Mix dry ingredients above together and then add the oil. 2 cups of chopped dates 1 cup of rice malt Place dates and malt is a saucepan and stir on medium heat for 5 mins or till softened and combined. Mix date and malt into the dry ingredients and combine well. Press mixture into 2 paper lined lamington pans. Use a rolling pin or jar to press really, really firmly. Brake in 170 degree oven (fan forced setting) for 15 minutes. Allow to cool before cutting – 20 pieces per tin. Add a stripe of chocolate on top if desired. Freezes well. From Natalie, Brianna and Layla Class 3R

Please note School Banking will resume in Term 3. The Bank will address the tokens that children will have earned during this period and the contribution payments to the school. School Parliament would like to invite all students for a Pyjama Day on Thursday 2 July. Wear your pyjamas and bring a gold coin donation as well as $2.00 for warm Milo and cake/biscuit. Peer Support activities will further support every child’s sense of belonging. Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD) ensures that all children deserve the best possible education; education that provides opportunities for children of all abilities to reach their potential. Teachers have been working to review the NCCD profile of students to include. It is a fair and consistent way for Australian schools to collect information that reflects the support or adjustments being provided for students whose learning is impacted. When social/emotional, physical, cognitive and sensory factors impact on student’s ability to learn, we work with parents/carers and our Learning and Support Team to develop differentiated programs and appropriate interventions. Tell Them From Me Survey (TTFM) for primary students in Years 4 to 6 will be conducted in the next two weeks. The student responses inform our understanding of their level of wellbeing and school safety as well as their level of engagement. There are some questions about home life for example, are there books and newspapers to read at home...

Parents are asked to inform us if they do not want their child to participate in the survey data collection. Week 9 Class 1W - Miss Watchirs WOW! Kindergarten are half way through their first year of school! We all had a great time at Happy Harold last week, where we learnt about friendships and Rachael had a sword fight with Harold the giraffe! Well done Year 1 for their effort writing their information texts about Koalas and publishing using Google Docs. In Maths we are looking at telling the time and learning about how in some cultures, seasonal changes mark the passing of time. We are building an understanding of the D’harawal seasonal calendar and how it relates to what we can see in happening in our environment. Cross Country is tomorrow and we are very excited. Next Friday we also have the Athletics Carnival and Pyjama Day next Thursday, so lots of fun events happening before the term ends. Thank you to all the families for helping the school sell lots of raffle tickets for the P&C Wood Raffle which will be drawn on Thursday 2nd July. Awards: Blake – beautiful behaviour in class and playground Rachael – fantastic attitude in class Cody & Sophia – wonderful listening in Maths

K/1 Class in Music this week

Class 2M - Mrs Moore I am so pleased with all the reading the children are doing! Their bookworms are growing so long and (best of all) I can see that their reading is steadily improving when they read during literacy rotations! This week we are learning about information texts. The children have learnt that information

texts have a title, pictures with captions and factual information organised under sub-headings. We are writing our own information texts on grey wolves. Our sub-headings are appearance and diet and habitat. In STEM the children are working on their cubby house designs. They have so many great ideas and will present them beautifully to show Mrs Bourke and the P and C. Wish your child good luck for the cross-country tomorrow. It might be worth putting the kids to bed early tonight if possible, ready to run their fastest tomorrow! Lessons with Alex and Harold were great fun and will help all of the children to learn the safety messages and how to solve problems. Don’t forget to wear your pyjamas next Thursday and bring some coins for Ronald Mc Donald House Fundraiser. Awards: Zali, Antony and Elsa: excellent effort in home reading Ava: outstanding writing Artwork by Peyton M and Hayley

Class 3R - Mr Reeve I have been so impressed with everyone’s writing in our class. The last few weeks we have been focusing on autobiographies, biographies (on our friends, family and famous people) and information pieces on animals. Next week we are creating newspaper reports. In Maths, we have been focusing on reading timetables and understanding time duration. Eg If Clancy went to the beach from 10.00am until 2.30pm, how long did he go for? Next week in Maths, we are focusing on half and quarter of an amount, mixed and improper fractions. For homework we are working on completing Unit 18 in our Practising Maths books.

Healthy Harold lessons are being followed up to teach cybersafety in our class. A huge congratulations to Michael and Oliver for their fantastic speeches informing our school what’s happening with the Trash Smashers after our visit from Jules at Bournda EEC last week. Reports will come home this week for parents to share with their child. Don’t forget PJ Day next Thursday! Awards: Sandon: awesome information pieces on anacondas and red bellied black snakes. Christopher: fantastic information piece on polar bears. Ivy: fantastic biography on Tones and I. Natalie: entertaining biography on Mr Reeve. Class 4BJ - Mrs Bourke/Mrs Johnson Modified class reports will come home today. It has been the most extraordinary term and the children have managed the many changes. Our reports look for what the children can do and the next steps for their continuing progress. Literacy – An assignment has been created in Teams for the poetry writing. Please check the poetry writing rubric to see the criteria. Mrs Johnson is working with the class on their information report. Each child is researching and presenting information for their report. Numeracy - fractions and problem solving. Sport – our class have improved their cross country fitness ready for tomorrow and have started to practice for field events - high jump, long jump, discus and shotput. Each child has attempted a personal best during practice sessions. Peer Support groups provide the opportunity for Year 6 leaders to develop leadership and provide support for the younger children. A PJ Day is being planned for next Thursday. Reading PRC – we have another 4 students who have recorded their books. Well done Chiara, Koby, Lilly and Jasmine. Art – Postcard Art works are being developed for showcase in the Spiral Gallery in Bega next term. STEM design is due next week, we encourage all children to work with parent support, to develop a design for the top area. It is great that the STEM Virtual Reality kit will be in our school again next term. Awards: Isabelle, Lance, Hayden: excellent effort in Poetry writing Alex and Mikah: excellent effort in Spanish Duolingo course
