Kisharon | Director of Fundraising | June 2019 3

Welcome

Thank you for your interest in becoming our next Director of Fundraising.

The widely accepted meaning of ‘Kisharon’ is talent or ability, which is exactly what we are all about as an organisation.

My mission as Chief Executive of Kisharon is for us to maximise talent, which is an all-encompassing ambition that applies equally to the children, young people and adults we work to support as well as to the incredibly dedicated donors, staff and volunteers who make our work possible.

Every day I am truly inspired by the transformative results of the amazing work that we do, achieved by a remarkable staff group who believe in realising the potential of everyone with a learning disability – all of which is underpinned by our fundraising from the community.

Kisharon has been recognised and validated by multiple awards and accreditations, both nationally and internationally, be it from the National Autistic Society, our multiple EVCOMM awards, the Charity Times and “The Ruderman Foundation” awards, however most important to us is our CQC and OFSTED status in service of the people we support with learning disabilities.

None of this recognition can bear true testament to the impact you directly can have in ensuring that funding is available to enable a child attending Tuffkid Nursery to sit up for the first time; or to enable a pupil at Kisharon School with no mobility to appear in his first school play; or to enable a Kisharon College student to travel independently for the first time on public transport in preparation for future employment and independent living.

Your impact will be our future heritage, and one on which I want to see us build on our rich and exemplary track record.

Kisharon is an exciting, stimulating and rewarding place to work and the Director of Fundraising role is your opportunity to deploy your talent to achieve meaningful and tangible impact on both individual and family lives that has a much wider benefit to the communities we serve.

I sincerely hope that you will seize this opportunity and I do look forward to hearing from you.

Fundraising at KisharonOur Fundraising has been particularly noticeable for the growth both in capital and revenue income streams, with particular focus on nurturing a core pool of major donors in addition to a broader mix of event based fundraising and direct marketing. Continuing this dynamic progression is a number one priority.

As with other fundraising from the Jewish community, our Annual Dinner is a key feature in our fundraising calendar raising close to £1m per annum from a £2.3m revenue income target.

Other key fundraising in order to achieve the £2.3m target at present includes a broad mix of events, business breakfasts, lunches, community challenge events, as well as direct marketing appeals.

Our trustees and key donors take a keen and positive interest in our work and the wider issues for the education and life opportunities for individuals with learning disabilities.

Personal experience can be the driver for our supporters as well as our fundraising committees – and with it comes a deep passion for our work.

Our donor supporter base extends across the community we serve and throughout the year there are a series of appeals linked to the

key dates in the Jewish calendar as well as a programme of challenge events to engage with our donors of the future.

Our fundraising works in tandem with our services, in particular innovative social enterprises, for example, promotion through direct marketing appeals over the Jewish holidays promoting the Kisharon name into over 4,000 households.

The latest Annual Report gives an overview of the income streams we manage and that in 2018 generated £2.5m from the community. Of this total, £1.9m was unrestricted.

Voluntary income is pivotal to our realistic ambitions of continuing to change the landscape, attitudes and understanding in relation to learning disabilities – not to mention delivering on our promise to maximise on the “Kisharon” – talents – of all people with learning disabilities.

The 2018 accounts show a marked increase in Fundraising, both on Capital and Revenue campaigns. The Fundraising role will retain and develop existing streams from supporters who have bought into the organisation’s clear identity and long term case for support.

Going forward we will need to further innovate and evaluate to ensure the investment in our fundraising both exceeds the expectations of our donors and other stakeholders and delivers the best possible return on their investment in us in supporting the people we serve.
