OVERVIEW
This document represents three preliminary concept directions.
All three have been influenced by the style criteria and objectives
outlined in the Planning Summary document.
Although the following concept renderings look finished, they
should be regarded as rough schematics and are subject to
further development after comments are received and new design
treatments are considered.
In the interest of time and efficiency, not all sign types are
represented in this presentation. Once a viable concept direction
has been identified, all sign types within the system will be
developed accordingly.
Some elements within a specific concept may be interchanged
with those of other concepts, while some may not.
Textures, finishes and colors are similar in all three concepts
because they have been chosen based on their legibility, brand
alignment, sustainability and their relevance to the Canmore
architectural character we call “Rustic Elegance”.
The primary materials we are recommending are stone (concrete),
iron, wood (cedar) and glass. Message panels will receive a
painted finish with a brand color and vehicular guide signs will
utilize reflective sheeting over aluminum covered with translucent
graphics for night retroreflectivity.
Internal structural components and painted panels will be made
from aluminum for strength, corrosion resistance and minimal
weight.

Cedar posts are finished smooth and oiled. The peaks loosely represent the Three Sisters and subtly echo the mountain graphic in the logo.
Signs are made from cast concrete or a faux stone-covered structure to resemble quarried slabs. The graphics are recessed into the surface.
Layered glass sheets are sandwiched between a concrete base and an ironplate. An internal LED light sourceilluminates the edges at night.

Heavy vinyl banners or aluminum panels hang from cedar cross-members.
Concept 1
Possible banner/panel colors can be chosen from a couple of the darkest brand colors such as dark green, dark red and dark blue. A dark smoke grey will also work well.
