Skill Session I

The Hispanic Guitar in the Liturgy Rodolfo LópezThe guitar is one of the most popular instruments in the world and a musical cornerstone in many cultures. It has deep roots in the Hispanic community and has been embraced as the primary accompaniment instrument for many liturgi-cal situations. Come and learn traditions, techniques, styles, and fundamentals related to the guitar in the Hispanic community. The Choir: Its Voice and Ministry Damaris ThilletWhat does scripture tell us in regard to the role of music in our worshiping experience? Come and explore the role of the choir in the liturgy with an emphasis on scripture and the liturgical documents. We will also look at choral funda-mentals and the challenges related to choir management. This workshop is recommended for those that participate in music ministry, but all are welcome.Living Our Faith Through Music Santiago FernándezIn this session, Santiago will speak to us about this important and personal topic for each one of us, especially for litur-gical musicians. We will reflect on the song in the mass and in personal prayer, during retreats and in other moments that we share as Catholic believers.Selecting Music for Successful Liturgies Pedro RubalcavaHow do we select music that engages the congregation? How do we teach this music to the choir and to the assembly? How do we develop a repertoire that allows us to successfully minister to our parish and serve the liturgy. Come and learn new techniques that will help you to achieve successful liturgies.
