Canton Residents & Non-Residents
Canton Residents are given first priority when registering for summer
programs.
When openings are available, Non-Residents will be assessed an
additional $10 fee per program.
The Canton Recreation Department has limited funding to grant
need-based fee waivers to Canton residents. Applications are
required and can be obtained at the Canton Recreation Department.
Refunds
An Administrative Fee of $10 will be retained per person per program for refunds.
A Full Refund (minus administrative fee) will be provided if withdrawal is one week prior to program start date. Programs are supported by fees & instructors must be notified in a timely manner whether activities/classes will run.
Within one week of program start date or after program begins, refunds will be considered on a case by case basis.
Refunds may take 2-4 weeks to process.
Activity/Program Cancellations
The Canton Recreation Department reserves the right to cancel/postpone a
program due to low enrollment or inclement weather. If a program is cancelled
due to inclement weather, every effort will be made to reschedule missed time.

SUMMER PLAYGROUND PROGRAM
Monday – Friday June 25 – August 17, 2012
8:30am – 1:30pm
Ponkapoag, Messinger, & Kennedy Playgrounds
Open to all children through completion of 8th Grade. Children under 7 years must be accompanied by a parent/guardian at all times.
Join the Recreation Department Playground Leaders for Arts & Crafts, Sports,
New Games, and Special Events in an informal setting.
Daily activities at each playground are FREE to Canton Residents.
Safety & First Aid o In case of emergencies, registration is required for all children.
Registration can be completed online or in person upon arrival at the playground. Parent/Guardian signature is required.
o Playground Leaders will be equipped with a first aid kit for minor
accidents. For all other accidents, the Canton Fire and Police Departments will be contacted to respond. No Playground Leader or other Recreation Department staff will administer aspirin or drug of any kind to a child.
Bus Trips are conducted occasionally at a nominal cost to interested participants. Past trips include Pawtucket Red Sox games & the New England Aquarium. Advanced registration & payment will be required.
Special Events will take place at individual playgrounds and/or as Canton Recreation community wide programs. Events may include Field Days, Arts & Crafts Displays, Special Shows, & much more.

New and different crafts are offered each year!
Students will make and take home a craft each day.
Each session is limited to 15 students. Students may sign-up for as many sessions as they wish.

BOLIVAR POOL Bolivar Swimming Pool is operated under the jurisdiction of the Canton Recreation Department solely
for the enjoyment of Canton Residents. Located on Bolivar Street approximately ½ mile from Washington Street, it is the only municipal swimming area within the Town of Canton.
Parking is limited to Canton Residents only due to limited available spaces.

The pre-school program, led by Sandy Hart, is for children between the ages of three and five years
old. Pre-School gymnasts begin to learn the basic skills involved in the sport of gymnastics, and
receive exposure to the gymnastics events such as tumbling, balance beam, vault, and bars. Each
child is allowed to progress individually, until they master these beginning elements. Most
importantly, we strive to make the classes fun!

Canton Women’s Softball League Slow-Pitch

For well over 30 years, the Canton Women’s Softball League has provided women of all ages the opportunity to recreate and compete in slow-pitch softball. The league follows ASA Regulations. The game ball is 12” and the pitching arc is set at 6-12 feet. Games are played on various softball and baseball fields located in the Town of Canton. In addition to the exercise and competition, there is a great social environment created amongst the various teams.

Assisted by premier athletes from local colleges and high schools, children are broken up into groups according to age and ability and will play highly engaging and focused games to achieve these benefits.

Participants who wish to attend, but do not possess necessary equipment should notify Coach Bendell to reserve equipment.

PETER PAN at CAMP BROADWAY
Held at the William Armando, Jr. Recreation Center, 92 Pleasant Street For Ages 4 to 9 years

Children will experience the joy of music and drama as cast members in Peter Pan. In a non-threatening environment, they play instruments, sing, and dance to the music of Broadway. In addition, children are guided in playful yoga and meditation.
Each session is limited to 25 students.
Fee: $125.00/session
All sessions run Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 9:30am-12:00pm each day.

A MUSICAL REVUE Held at St. Gerard Majella Church Hall, 1860 Washington Street, Canton,
MA For Ages 7 to 14 years
Instructor: Leslie VanDyk, South Shore School of Performing Arts
Workshops include an introduction to singing and creative movement. Children will write short script and choose songs from a given list of today’s Pop Artists. Arts and crafts time will be offered as well to design banners and posters. Be prepared to exercise and stretch your vocal chords.
Fee: $125.00/session
Sessions run Monday - Thursday from 9:00am-4:00pm each day.

RECREATION FACILITY INFORMATION
Playgrounds & Rules
The following four playgrounds are maintained by the Recreation Department, but are not staffed by Recreation Department Playground Leaders for the summer months.
Devoll Playground, Memorial Playground, Tilden Playground, and Pequitside Playground
Whether staffed or not staffed, users of any and all Playgrounds maintained by the Canton Recreation Department must abide by the following Park & Playground Rules:
1. All parks and playgrounds close at dusk.
2. No parking of motor vehicles allowed on any grass area of the playground or park.
3. Absolutely no dumping of debris on any playground or park.
4. No golf or driving of golf balls permitted.
5. A permit must be secured from the Recreation Department for use of all facilities.
6. Courtesy should be given to those using equipment on the playgrounds and parks.
7. In the event of an emergency, contact the Canton Fire Department at 781-828-1313 or the Canton Police Department at 781-821-5090.
8. All accidents on parks and playgrounds should be reported to the Recreation Department at 781-821-5030.
9. Damage or vandalism should be reported to either the Recreation Department at 781-821-5030 or the Canton Police Department at 781-821-5090.

Pequitside Farm 79 Pleasant Street
Pequitside Farm is a 33 acre park facility acquired by the Town of Canton in June 1971. It has grown into one of the most flexible, multipurpose, Conservation/Recreation facilities in the area. The town benefits from its use in the following ways: Picnic and Passive Recreation Area, Protected Wetland Area, Tot Lot and Play Area, Open Fields for Active Recreation, Walking Trail Development, Formal Garden Area, Tennis Court.
