Welcome to Math Madness 2014! Our goal is to have students practice math while raising money for our school. In the 2011 Mathathons, over $10,000 was raised each year!! This is Canyon View's largest fundraiser. The money raised over theew years has helped pay for capital improvement projects like the play structure on the big field and the current kinderga

playground. Without the Math Madness (Mathathon), many of our school's projects would not be possible. This year, our goo raise enough funds to install a new, and desperately needed, shade structure for the kindergarten playground.

Here is how Math Madness works (packets were sent home on March 7th):

Practice the sample math problems. The questions on the Mathathon test will beimilar. There will be 20 questions. The more practice the better!

Use the pledge form to gather pledges from family and friends. They can pledge anmount for each correct answer on the Mathathon test or pledge a flat amount ($20ecommendation).*Safety is our number one concern. Door-to-door solicitation is prohibited.

nstead, ask family, friends, and co-workers to support students' efforts. Extra

orms are located in the office.

By Wednesday, March 19: Return pledge forms along with the envelope to youromeroom teacher. Please do not turn in any money you have collected at this time.

The totals will be calculated and returned to you after the test. Each student whoollects at least 1 pledge will be entered in the drawing for an "Otter Pop Party"!

Wednesday-Friday, March 19-21: Mathathon Test Day!! Every student in thechool will take the test in math class. Good luck!

Monday, March 24:The pledge packets (with calculated pledge amounts) and theorrected Mathathon test will be returned and sent home.

March 25-April 7: Collect pledge money from donors.

By Tuesday, April 8: Turn in pledge form and money to the classroom. Moneyurned in after this date will not be included in the calculation of prizes.

Did someone mention PRIZES??? Check out what we have to offer!!!

Thank you, in advance, for supporting Canyon View s Math Madness. All of the funds

aised will benefit the students at Canyon View. Keep it fun! No worries! No stress! No grades! Remember, the Mathathon is supposed to be a FUNdraiser! If you haveny questions, please contact: Laura Baragar, [email protected], 818-8117.

It is recommended that parents of primary students consult with the

classroom teacher and/or gifted specialist before requesting testing. Test

results for such young students are valid for a short time only and are NOTrequired for the identification of primary students for differentiated

instruction or extended groups in reading and math in first or second grades.

The assessments used to identify students for these groups are given to all

children at the beginning and throughout the year as a regular part of the

    educational program.
