Applications of these models are,forinstance,thedeterminationoftheflowfieldacross theentrancetoaharbourfornavigationstudies,thewave disturbanceandresonanceinportsandharboursandto estimatetheamountofsedimenttransporttobetrappedinanavigationalchannel.For modellingweoftenuseseveraltools,includingtheMIKE21softwarepackage.Thisisa professional engineering software package for the simulation of flows, waves, sediments and ecology in rivers, lakes, estuaries, bays, coastal areas and seas. Ship Operations StudiesForasatisfactoryterminalorportdesignitisessentialto knowwhatbehaviourofthevesselsmaybeexpected underextremeconditions.Withthehelpoffasttime SimulationprogramSHIPMARoyalHaskoningisableto determinephysicallimitationsandrequirementsof navigable waters with and without tug assistance. With the modellingresults,optimumdesignparameterssuchas turningcircle,breakwaterposition,etccanbefoundin ordertoguaranteeaworkablesituationforasafeand efficientapproachofthesevessels.Ifnecessaryand/or critical,thesefasttimesimulationscanthenbe supplemented by full bridge simulations. Assessment of Marine RiskWiththegrowingvolumesandcomplexityofportsallover theworldmarinenavigationincreasinglyrequires assessmentandreviewofpotentialrisk.RoyalHaskoning hasanin-housesoftwaremodelMARTRAMwhichallows forarealisticmodelrepresentationofmarinenavigation. Marine Structures Design The structural design of jetties and other marine structures is atthecoreofourengineeringbusiness.Ourdesign capabilityincludesconsideringstructuresexposedto considerablewaveforcesand/orberthingloads,bollard load, ice loads, excessive surcharge loads, etc. Maritime & Waterways South East Asia38116-CS-001-MCO Capability Statement- 12 -November 2011 Vessel Moorings Design Afactorthatisfrequentlycritical forthe design ofjettiesis itsexposuretowinds,wavesandcurrentsinrelationto vesselmooring.WithinRoyalHaskoningweusesoftware packagessuchasMDT(MooringDesignTool)and TERMSIMinordertoanalysethedynamicbehaviourofa mooredvesselsubjecttowind,wavesandcurrent.The mooringsystemcanbeaSinglePointMooring(SPM),a Multi Buoy Mooring (MBM) or a Jetty terminal. The program predictsthemooringloadsandvesselmotionswhenthe system is exposed to operational environmental conditions. Breakwater DesignThisinvolvesrelativelysmallscaleitemssuchasgroynes, but also coastal protection works and large port breakwater. Theconstructioncostsofprotectivebreakwatersarehigh, typicallyrangingbetween10,000 and100,000 perlinear meter (largely depending on water depth).Byoptimisationthebreakwaterdesigntheconstruction costsofbreakwaterscanbereduced.Athorough understanding of the design factors and the design process formsthebasisofsuchoptimisationprocess.Royal Haskoninghasbuiltupthisunderstandingthroughcontinuallyupdatingknowledgeand gaining experience from projects all over world under varying conditions. OverthelasttwelveyearsRoyalHaskoninghasundertakennumerous feasibilitystudiesfortheextensionofthisdock.RoyalHaskoningarenow undertaking the detailed design for the extension.The dock is increasing from 355m x 60m clear width to 400m x 64m.Therefore the extension comprises bothlengtheningandwideningofthedockallowinganewmaximumvessel beamof60m.Thewideningwillinvolvetrimmingbacktheexistingservices galleriesandcastingnewfacilitiesatthedockcopeedgeaswellasmany otheraspects.Theexistingrepairpier,alignedwiththedock,willalsobe trimmed back to allow the maximum vessel to enter the dock. Royal Haskoning are using diaphragm wall techniques to form the extension, due to the limited space available on the site.They havealso been working closelywiththeclienttosequencethedemolitionandconstructionworksto ensurethatthedockremainsoperationalforthemaximumtime.Thishas requiredspecificationoflimpetdamstoundertakeworkattheentranceand gate abutments whilst the dock gate is removed and replaced. Royal Haskoning are also providing detailed design services for the new dock gate.

The impact of the beams is cushioned by rubber fenders on pile caps. The design takes into account the resulting static and dynamic forces. RoyalHaskoning,wereinitiallycommissionedtoassessthestabilityand strength of the quay wall during the loadout. The firm subsequently carried out acheckandreviewofthedesignforthejackingcolumnsandpiled foundations.Thisinvolvedcheckingtheeffectsofconstructionstolerances, wind and self weight, and minimising the effects of the risks involved with the jacking operation.
