Goals
• Reduce Birch energy consumption
• Focus on Staff over Student involvement
• Increase Awareness of all three energy conservations
• Work as a team to change behavior around campus and at home
• Apply course concepts to maximize team’s potential
Strategies & Tactics
• Met with building representative prior to official start date of March 2,2014
• Got input from both Marina and Louise Scott on overall plan and strategies for Birch Building
• Louise sent 9 introductory emails to Birch Building Dept Heads on February 28, 2014
• Motivate, inform staff to participate in friendly competition reducing energy consumption
• Team Avatar was organized to create Staff & Student “buy-in” by project start
Key Milestones
• Motivation of staff ASAP using Dept. Heads to facilitate forum for staff presentations
• Facebook page – within first week of project
• Twitter – within first week of project
• “Take the stairs” campaign to commence after Birch Building’s “Walk to Wellness” campaign.
• Signage Distribution – last week of Challenge project –reminder to staff/maximize results
Team Organization
• Clearly defined plan/roles for each member
• Weekly 2 hour team meetings
• Report/discuss weekly achievements
• Weekly minutes/reminder of actions
• Assess overall strategy, half-way of project
• Make changes to roles or project strategy
Staff Involvement • Met with 9 Birch Building Depts & gave
presentations = +45 KM extra
• Communicated & educated via email with Depts unable to have a presentation
• Tweeted and posted about meetings on Dashboard project page
• Largest meeting was to 30 staff members covering most of 2nd floor staff members on March 12, 2014

Team Dynamics, Value Gained• Used team experience from Video project
• Developed a solid plan with input team, Marina and Louise with a pre-scheduled half-way revision based on results
• Clearly defined/assigned roles with lines of communication
• Mandatory weekly meetings to vent/discuss/advise one another
• Focused on increasing trust to maximize team’s potential
Challenges Conquered
• Staff reluctance to participate due to year-end budget/financial task deadlines
• Huge support from Building Representative & familiar face from Temp Pool staff
• Team Avatar moved from norming to performing through increased trust and maintaining roles
• Motivated by achieving extra 5% and successful team project bragging rights!
