Welconf.e...Welcome to Memorial Park and to our close neighboursStop Out for today's Capital Premier League clash. Withthe 1"t team having a week off, it's an opportunity for thereserves to shine and show their talents.
Today is a very important game as we still have an opportunity to retainour Premier League status, depending on how promotion and relegationworks out for Central League and Capital One. Some may say that thebottom two teams deserve to be relegated, but our performances aII yearhave been better than the results show. It wouldn't be the first timesomeone has made this statement, but the way we have played this seasondoes deserve some reward. Stop Out will prove another tough challengethough and a fuII 90 minute concentrated effort is required. Best of luck toChris, Rob and the lads for what should be another exciting game.
The players and coaches are generally the talking points most afternoons(and sometimes the officials as weII!), however today I'd like to recogniseaII our team managers for the time and effort they contribute to our club. They're the unsung heroes who often get forgotten so a big, big thank youto you aII for your contribution and hard work. It is appreciated and doesmake the Management Committee's job much easier.
One manager in particular deserves a special mention. Ray BeII hasmanaged our U19 squad for 9 of the past ten years and wiII be steppingdown from the role after this year's National Youth Tournament. He hasdone an exceptional job and on behalf of the entire club, I'd like to thankRay for his meticulous organisational skills and outstanding managerialduties. Big shoes to fiII but the search has begun! Please let me know ifyou see yourself as the next Sir Alex or Sir Ray. We always welcomemore volunteers...
Good luck to aII Petone teams this weekend. Remember to play hard butplay fair.

Our visitors: Stop OutHistory is so important to any club, and like Petone who have been a round a bitlongerthan us, tradition is an important part of our club too.
Formed in r9r9, at Stop Out we are rapidlymoving towards our centenary year!
For those who don't know the history...The Stop Out organisation was founded in r9r9with the aim of providing recreation to Te AroFlat children who were involved with theWellington City Mission.
Reverend Fielden Taylor of the City Missionwanted to establish a club for the large number ofboys who would stay out late kicking a footballabout.
The kids were known colloquially as "stop outs" periodslang fortroubled youth. So when a club was
established for them, the club name "Stop Out" was
an obvious choice.
Those values remain today and we have always strivedto build an ethos, spirit and support structure for all ourmembers. And yes we still have a few "Stop Out'swithin the club!
Over the course of our history we have been involved with several sports, notablyathletics, softball and boxing, but ofcourse Football is now our sole focus.
And through thattime names like Dunn, Coe and McCreadie have been theheartbeat of Stop Out.
There are many similarities that mirror the history of Petone Football Club and it'sno wonder there is and always has been mutual respect between the players, coaches and supporters ofboth clubs!
Long that remain.

Richard B. N[ctay:International GorresBondentIt's been reaW €Feat for Petone FC to fly me over to London to watchthe Olympics and reporb back on the Urings I've seen. Thre upgfade tobusiness class was a real nice touch thranks Cra,r€; the angUs beef burgerfor dirrner was gourmet and was probably thre best of thre four courses Iwas served.
Let me just startby sayingthat London is goingabsolute[rbonkers atthremoment! When walkin€laround the cit5r every park is flrll, every trainis flIl and of course all tJre pubs are flrll. The onJy Urings that seem to beempt5rare thre stands.
I watched the openin€l ceremorl)r at some random park with a bi€ screenand tJrere was a real buzz in thre air. Being in arnongst a British crrcwd wasan incredible experience and really made the spectacle thrat much better.Thre Brits showedtJreirtrue colours: cheeringfor Qreenie and ever5rbhing;else that moved and thren booing thre French and Germans.
In terms of football, you migfirt have gUessed thrat thre covera€e of threNew Zealand football garnes is somewhat limited i.e. the onJ;r place thatplays it is Kfu\ri House. For those of you who don't knov4 Kiwi House is aNew Zealand-run pub in London created for tJre Ol;rmpics. It's just abarwith abig screenthat shows live SI1y Coverage of NZ athletes. Despitewatching thre OIy Whites vs Belarus game with onJ;r a small crowd, theatmosphere was still good, althrou€h. thecovera€e qualitJrwas the opposite of hi€h.definition. Unforbunatel;r I missed thesecond game due to a cerbain gncup ofladies in leotards requfing m;r attention. However, I will be back rallyin€lthe crowdat Kiwi House for the tftid. A personal ni$ftfigffi for m;rself has beenthe rising tension here in London aboutTeam GB's failure to win anygold medals. This situation can onJ;r be described by threword "hila, rious" .

Thern!Having once lived just around the corner from the Stop OutClubrooms, I occasionally popped in on the way home to catch upwith a few old mates and partake in a quiet one. After aII, I hadhardly taken my first breath of fresh air when I first started to hearabout them. It was just my luck to be born the same day as JimmyDunn. Fortunately, his Uncle Peter turned up a couple of days laterwith the club's cheque book, signed him up, and took him off totraining.
Urban Dictionary defines Stop Out as an adjective describing aperson (most likely a woman) who stays out aII night with another- the kind of girl who leaves a club with a man and doesn't comehome until sometime the next day. WeII, they've taken that literallya few times over the years.
Then I found there is a record company in Romford called Stop OutRecords -'Ieading the masses into a new dawn of undergrounddebauchery' it says about them. Right!!
There has been plenty of player movement between the two clubsover the years. 1977 saw 14 players transfer to the other side. Seveneach way. One of Stop Out's greatest coups was to lure a Pickeringaway from Petone. Unheard of until then, and since, but retaliationwas swift and as Barry started his first training session at Te Whiti,I was only 200 yards away in Mr & Mrs Stapleton's house with theStop Out Committee negotiating their imported goalkeeper outof a binding contract. Dunns and Youngs,Winters, Ivancics andPhillipsens aII crossed the Hutt River one way or the other thatyear, but only the Petone ones were able to walk on water.
However, the player that Petone did miss out on was one JamesMcCreadie. Jim had arrived in New Zealand around 1952 andhad travelled out from Fort Dorsett to the Petone Rec for a game.Thrilled to bits that we wore the same colour jerseys as his belovedRangers, he stood on the sidelines waiting for the substitution callthat never came. In the end he trudged off to one of the locals wherehe ran into Peter Dunn and, in a friendly way, he's hated us eversince.
Anyway, good luck to you aII today and bring Jim back to theclubrooms afterwards. I have a whiskey for him.
