here green movement is upgrading his way to protest: The beauty of the money thing is –unlike spraying slogans on walls -- writing on bills is risk-free and the circulation is far vaster ... as for replacing bills, it won't matter as long as people keep writing. You know how Iranians love copycat behavior; once something catches on, they do it en masse ... and relentlessly. As to panicky reactions ... the regime has panicked too. A photographer friend of mine was released after 3 days at Evin (where they did "waterboarding" on him btw ... and they have the gall to criticize Guantanamo!!) ... anyway, he said it was a ZOO in there, 1000s arrested, some of them extremely random; for instance, a five-storey apartment building (10 apt. units) ALL RESIDENTS rounded up and arrested on charges of hollering "Allahu Akhbar" from their rooftops. The irony kills me! Immagine being arrested in the Islamic Republic for saying "God is Great!" ha ha.This shows the regime is not at all as unruffled as it would like to project. Their normal paranoia has gone haywire to include millions of internal dissidents ... how to keep tabs on them all, even with their new hi-tech web spyware ...?!

The protest is mutating into a more subtle but potent form. Rooftops --are on despite accounts of Basij raids on private homes from which Allahu Akbar emanates (and one case where the residents of an entire five-storey apt building were bused to Evin prison), the chanting is not diminished. Every neighborhood varies; in the south they are louder and more fervid; in the north more choral : ) ... the "God is Greater" [i.e., than those in power, be it a puppet king or the prophet's deputy] is now mixed with "Death to Dictatorship" and "Coup Government, Resign!" Clashes --No mass march (like the millions two weeks ago) to avoid possible large-scale bloodshed (word-of-mouth is that IRGC is willing to kill large numbers in one go if it feels threatened), so street protests are now decentralized (slimmer crowds in multiple locations simultaneously at appointed time). Tuesday, there were posters & slogans/tear gas & batonwork in six main squares in Tehran (from Tajrish up north to Pich Shemran in center-south). Protests from the start were scheduled in afternoons (starting 4, 5, or 6 pm for about two hours), which is rush hour amid gridlock traffic. On Tuesday, the scattered demos caused cars to start honking in support (i.e., loud nonstop honking by many cars). The Basij response was to pound cars with batons and slash tires. Thus, even passing drivers were harassed for expressing support as they sat in their cars. Today's Protestis scheduled at 6pm in front of Evin Prison, to ask for the release of crackdown detainees.

Public PoliticsAfter the Guardian Council recount confirmation of Ahmadinejad win on Monday, the Reformist Big Three (Khatami, Karroubi, Mousavi) all issued statements dismissing the legal validity and legitimacy of the Council's ruling (i.e., and Leader's by extension). They did not recognize the win and called for people to continue peaceful protests while they purse the matter legally through "other" channels (this could imply the Assembly of Experts, Qom cleric establishment, etc.). The said statements are not broadcast on state TV, but are posted on the candidate's official websites. Ciruclation occurs mainly though banned newssites, emails, twitter etc., and word-of-mouth. It is unclear HOW MANY people actually have knowledge of the statements or have read the full version. When VOA/BBC quote the statements, it can be assumed that it reaches a wider audience than the web-based circulation. All bestTara
