Another crazy year! It seams that I have been able to start off several messages thatway, lately. From covid restrictions to snow days, it has been a difficult journey. ButI have always been told “Success is a journey, not a destination”, so I hope you enjoywhere we ended up.

Let me start by giving a shout out to the cast and crew of 2020’s “GREASE”, whoreally proved that anything can happen if you really want it to. They showed me thatthe idea of “keep moving forward” can really create some great memories and situ-ations, even if they aren’t what we expect them to be.

As for this year, all I can say is what an amazing group of young people this has beento work with. Not to mention talented. The Cardinal Spotlight Theatre has a greatfuture ahead of it, that is for sure! I don’t recall a group of underclassmen that hasmade an impact quite like this one. Which in-turn, made our already talented seniorswork even harder. It has truly been a honor to work with these students, who’s desireand motivation sometimes carry me as much as I try to carry them.

I never thought I would ever direct High School Musical. To be honest, even for me,I felt it was too cheesy and lacked depth. What I found is that if you have the rightmix of students who will give it everything they have, it doesn’t matter the content,because the talent and enthusiasm will shine brighter than the marque. These stu-dents have made this and incredible production, worthy of any stage. They haveopened my eyes to look deeper at the message, and not just look for the glitter. It’snot Shakespeare, but it is Broadway…right here in little old Pine Grove. And thereis a great little message that seems to have been forgotten for some time…“We’re allin this together’. Wouldn’t the world be a better place if we just remembered that?

To the seniors, my only hope when this is all over is that we have learned somethingfrom it that is useful. Maybe it helps us all realize not to take things for granted, eventhe smaller things. Or maybe we appreciate the things a little more that make ushappy. What ever the outcome, I hope you never lose the passion to “move forward.”As Walt Disney said “We keep moving forward—opening up new doors and doingnew things—because we're curious. And curiosity keeps leading us down new paths.”May all your paths bring you joy.
