Dementia Action Alliance The Dementia Action Alliance is a movement with one simple aim: to bring about a society-wide response to dementia. It encourages and supports communities and organisations across England to take practical actions to enable people to live well with dementia and reduce the risk of crisis intervention. With over 70 members, the Havering DAA is one of the largest in the country. The Alliance is made up of all types of organisations which have an interest in dementia across all areas of our community, including health services, social services, transport, local businesses, faith groups, retailers, charities and voluntary groups, the police, the fire brigade and are still hoping to recruit more members. Fundraising Events Alzheimer’s Society, Add+Up and Havering Mind have been recognised as one of the Mayor’s Charities for the year.

Mayor Linda Trew will be hosting a Charity Quiz Night in support of the Mayor’s Appeal.
The event is on Friday 20th February in Romford.

Livability: Making your Church Dementia Friendly
Students at Sidmouth College kicked off the year by becoming Dementia Friends in a Session. The students went back into their community pledging to volunteer at Memory Café’s and have more patience when out and about.
Last year saw the UK hit 500,000 dementia friends nationwide, a fantastic milestone. Already this year, the number has reached an incredible 800,000.
The new TV advert was launched, starring Gina who is living with dementia and a host of celebrities singing ‘I get by with a little help from my friends’.
The Dementia Friendly Churches Initiative offers a range of resources to support churches to become more accessible and inclusive for people with
dementia and their carers.

Care and Support and YouThe greatest change in more than 60 years to how you receive care and support has produced new regulations and guidance that set out requirements that the local authority have to meet.
The Care Act will be phased in from April 2015, with funding reform in 2016, and will mark a significant change in how Adult Social Care is provided and paid for.
For the first time the Act brings together care and support law into a single piece of legislation with the principle of individual needs and well-being at the heart of it.
