Is a center based in the Graduate School of Education at University of California Berkeley.

Supports the development and improvement of career academies and other small learning communities.

Maintains two websites with many guides, handbooks, a national directory of academies, a “toolbox” of downloadable materials and links to other organizations doing similar work.

Raises students’ college and career options and ambitions by providing information, professional development, and research findings to high school staff and others in the field to promote best practices.

Supports high school reform through approaches that prepare students for college and career pathways

Believes that “educational connectivity” leads to improved student performance

What will this session prepare you to do?

Understand what a Career Academy is and how it can support student achievement

Learn how to integrate ROP/CTE programs with academic coursework

Develop or redesign both CTE and academic courses for UC a-g approval

Develop a CTE “program of study”

Work with staff on college-and-career readiness for ALL students

Consider existing resources, staff, & community connections that could lead to a Career Academy

Focus a Smaller Learning Community (SLC) on college and career preparation

Start a National Academy Foundation (NAF) academy
