Established in 1913, the National Career Development Association (NCDA) is one the premier providers of professional development in the career field. With a nationwide system of instructors, NCDA has prepared over 18,000 CDFs for this internationally-recognized certification.

NCDA is a founding division of the American Counseling Association.

The mission of NCDA is to promote the career development of all people over the life span.

The Global CDF CredentialThe Global CDF Credential

Oakland University developed the CDF competencies and a CDF instructor training curriculum.

Various groups worked with Center for Credentialing and Education and the National Board of Certified Counselors to develop requirements for the GCDF credential.

1996, the GCDF credential was developed to provide standards, training specs and credentialing for career practitioners (both counselors/non counseling professionals).

The Global CDF CredentialThe Global CDF Credential

In 2006, NCDA begin offering the CDF curriculum as a blended online course.

Global CDF certification is provided through the Center for Credentialing and Education, Inc., a subsidiary of the National Board for Certified Counselors.

Certification is limited to those participants who attend training from a certified instructor; certification is for 5 years with recertification requirements of 75 hours of continuing education to be completed.

Successful completion of CDF training requires mastering 12 core competencies

Labor Market Information and Resources – Understand labor market and occupational information and trends; use current resources

Assessment – Comprehend and use (under supervision) both formal and informational career development assessments with emphasis on relating appropriate ones to the population served

Working with Diverse Populations – Recognize special needs of various groups and adapting services to meet their needs

Ethical and Legal Issues – Follow the CDF code of ethics and know current legislative regulations

Career Development Theories and Models – Understand career development theories, models, and techniques as they apply to lifelong development, gender, age, and ethnic background

South Carolina Department of Education - (As Issued in June 2006 – Inez M. Tenenbaum, State Superintendent of Education)

Both the school-based middle and high school career specialists and the regionally based career specialists who provide career services to school districts must hold a bachelor’s degree and the Global Career Development Facilitator (GCDF) certification from the Center for Credentialing and Education (CCE).
