Main goals and objectives of career guidance

• it is a system of measures for career information, career advice, career selectionand career adaptation, which helps a person to choose a profession that bestsuits the needs of society and its personal abilities and characteristics.

Career guidance

• assistance to young people (mainly students of general education schools) andpeople looking for a job in choosing a profession, specialty, place of work orstudy, taking into account the aptitudes and interests of people, theirpsychophysiological characteristics, as well as taking into account the currentsituation on the labor market.

Career guidance aim

• inform the interested persons to facilitate the choice of professional activity;

• create conditions for the development of professionally significant abilities offuture employees;

• determinate the compliance of the applicants’ psychophysiological and socio-psychological qualities with the professional requirements of the chosen job.

Republican centre of professional orientation and psychology-pedagogical diagnostics of pupils

• the center was established in 1999;• subordinated to the Ministry of national education;• is a legal entity;• has an independent balance sheet and accounts in banking institutions of

the Republic of Uzbekistan;• operates at the expense of the state budget and funds received for the

execution of work on grants, economic contracts, investments and donorassistance from international funds and organizations in accordance withthe law established procedure;

• The main activities, goals and objectives of the Center are the organizationand coordination of the activities of career guidance groups staff, teachersand school psychologists for career guidance and psychological andpedagogical diagnosis of students, as well as psychological prevention ofchildren's health in order to identify, correct and eliminate deviations intheir development.

Career guidance system in the Republic of Uzbekistan

•primary information about the types of work and professions with the help of variousgames, stories and visual images;

•the formation of visual images of people as the representatives of the professions onthe "A to Z Professions”;

•diagnosis of individual psychological characteristics of children, signs of early giftednessor delay in the development of the child;

•preparation for primary school.

Stage 1. “A to Z Professions”.

(5 – 6 years old)

•familiarization with the profession (" A to Z Professions", "Professions in a game”);

•conversations about professions, accessible to younger students;

•formation of ideas about the professions of parents, about professions in textbooks andprofessions in the social environment;

•diagnosis of individual psychological characteristics, interests, hobbies, abilities and signs of achild's giftedness.

Stage 2. “Who could I be?”

(grades 1 – 4)

•formation of ideas and basic knowledge about the professions, specialties, positions,their classifications;

•diagnostics of individual psychological features, interests, hobbies, aptitudes, actual andpotential abilities of students;

•training exercises, games, career guidance;

•excursions to enterprises, colleges, vocational schools.

Stage 3. “Journey to the world of professions”.

(grades 5 – 7)

•professional self-determination and conscious choice of profession;

•diagnosis of personal interests, aptitudes, abilities, professional intentions;

•thematic career guidance interviews, lessons, training;

•individual and group professional consultations;

•excursions to organizations, colleges, vocational schools, Universities;

•meetings and conversations with parents of graduates on their career guidance and futuretraining;

•Work-study facilities.

Stage 4. “My chosen

profession”

(grades 8 – 11)

Modern reforms in the education system

from the academic year 2017/2018, secondary schools began to accept students to 10, 11 grades

High school and vocational school students are trained under the scheme 5+1. One day is allocated for professional practice on the basis of vocational colleges in the chosen field with a profession certificate then issued.

From the academic year 2019/2020, admission to vocational colleges will be carried out among the graduates of 11 grades of secondary schools on a voluntary basis in order to obtain a specialty (profession) with a period of training from 6 months to 2 years.

Until July 1, 2018, a full transfer of vocational colleges to the relevant ministries, departments, economic associations, commercial banks and large enterprises will be carried out, taking into account the real needs for personnel.

The structure of each University includes an academic school, introduced a career-guided learning process in the complex “Vocational School-University".

• determination of demand for University graduates in certain areas and participation in the determination of admission quotas;

• creation of a database of jobs based on data from potential employers;

• assistance to enterprises in the selection of promising specialists;

• drafting and signing of a 3-party contract, employment of University graduates;

• monitoring of the employment of University graduates;

• monitoring of contracts with graduates who have received higher education on the basis of state grants within 3 years;
