We recently visited The Langham Hotel situated in the heart of Auckland City and got to have a great chat with our friends in the HR & Recruitment department on their expecta-tions when hiring staff.
As you may know, The Langham is a 5 star Hotel with over 400 rooms & suites, exception-al bars and restaurants together with wonderful spas and the overall vibe of luxury.
So when they hire staff some of the key attributes they look for are:
Excellent presentation and first impression - Walk into their Hotel and you will know why.
Have polite and professional communication – No slang ever
Food & Wine Knowledge eg know the differ-ence between Pinot Gris and Pinot Noir
Have confidence in yourself and your skills and being able to communicate that clearly in an interview – Don’t just say Yes or No
Their business is people so how you interact with all kinds of people from varied back-grounds is crucial – eg Don’t be shy
The Langham Hotel have NZMA graduates on staff in various departments and so they continue to support and encourage NZMA students to work hard & have the right attitude and you too could be working for them in the near future!

July 2014
More than 50 ISA members attended the 2nd meeting on 28 May 2014 at the Auckland Central Police Station.
ISA members talked about how they shared the preven-tion message with their schools. They were innovative and had many ideas. Police officers present were im-pressed with their efforts.
ISA members were encouraged to remind their fellow stu-dents on prevention of property crime. The Asian Liaison Officer told a story of how a student left a bag on the sofa and went to the toilet, came back and the bag was stolen. He was carrying heaps of cash and other valuables.
Senior Sergeant Martin Brown and Constable Winny Kam presented on the topic 'Alcohol and YOU'. They shared some real life stories, discussed about how people could become intoxicated, and most importantly how to make better choices, drink sensibly and prevent themselves from being harmed. It drew great interest among the ISA members. They asked questions and gave suggestions on how to keep safe if under pressure, such as from peers.
You can help reduce crime and victimisation. If you
have information about a crime or any illegal activi-
ties, you can report to the NZ Police by :

veal your identity when you call 0800 555 111 Report online :
