Caribbean Ports

Page 2: Caribbean ports

Some of the best things about cruising is visiting all the beautiful places the ship ports.

The Caribbean is no exception, with many islands; the chances are you’d need to come back a few times to make sure you’ve seen everything.

In an attempt to make things a little easier for you, I’ve listed some of the places I visited on my Royal Caribbean Cruise last year.

San Juan, Puerto Rico

One of the most popular places to visit here is Old San Juan, which offers a large variety of

sightseeing, shopping and dining opportunities.

Take a horse drawn carried ride throughout the town to plan your day and get some designer

jewellery and local crafts at great prices.

Check out some of the islands heritage in its vast array of art venues, museums, historic churches

and fortresses.

Or if nature is more of your thing why not go hiking or do a bit of bird watching?

There are shopping opportunities around every corner and even the change to take a tour

around a world famous rum factory.

Georgetown, Grand Cayman

This port is popular and bustling but never unbearably busy. The biggest attraction of this port is its shopping facilities where tourists can buy a wide range of high end items at duty free

prices.

There is a wide array of goods such as watches, camera, good quality jewellery, perfumes and cosmetics to be had here, at a fraction of the

normal price.

Whilst porting here make sure you take a chance to enjoy some of the local cuisine, with conch fritters, stingray beer and rum cake rated the highest with

tourists.

Other activities not to be missed include relaxing on some of their breath-taking beaches, learning some of its heritage in local museums and taking a swim

with the stingrays.

Willemstad, Curacao

Willemstad is a beautiful reminder of Curacaos Dutch heritage and this is reflected in its

colourful colonial architecture.

If you want to get about and about whilst there, there is no shortage of things to do, with a

variety of sightseeing, shopping opportunities and restaurants close at hand.

If you have shopping in mind, make sure you visit Willemstad’s famous floating market where you can purchase fresh fruit, vegetables and fish

from the catch of the day.

If you are staying on the island overnight, make sure you venture out and sample its nightlife, try your luck with some beach casino, see a live jazz

in a local club or dance the night away at an open air beach party.
