Personal Life• He invested in Government saving bonds at the age of 11.
By the age of 15 he had bought a small shareholding in Banco Nacional de Mexico – then the country’s largest bank.• He was the first president of the Latin-American Committee
of the New York Stock Exchange Administration Council .•Mr. Slim has a passion for history, art and nature; he is also a
great fan of baseball and has written several articles about the sport.• Carlos is nicknamed ‘Mr. Monopoly’ because it is considered
that it is impossible to spend money in Mexico and not put money in his pocket, as his companies have presence in every sector.• At 70 he remains committed to his humble roots. He idolises
his father, Julian, who emigrated from Lebanon at the age of 14.

Business Career Working from the strong business foundation built by his
father, Slim began his own career ,as a trader, in Mexico and soon started his own stock brokerage,Inversora Bursatil in 1965.
In 1966 he founded Inmobiliaria Carso. (the Carso name derives from the first three letters of Carlos and the first two of Soumaya
In 1982, Mexico plunged into an economic crisis. Carlos Slim's confidence in his country held firm, and he acquired many Mexican businesses.
He also began extending his influence into telephone communications to buy the phone company ‘Telmex’ from the Mexican government.
•Mr Slim’s vast family empire controls more than 200 companies spanning industries including banking, telecoms, road-building and restaurants.
• Currently, Slim is the chairperson and chief executive of telecommunications companies Telmex and América Móvil.
• As of January 15, 2015, he became the largest individual shareholder in ‘The New York Times Company’, with a holding of 16.8%.
• he pledged $6bn for his three charitable foundations.Meanwhile, his infrastructure firm, Ideal, is working on a project to develop a shopping centre, schools and a hospital in Mexico City.
