ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION

Carlsberg group is a Danish brewing company founded in 1847 by J.C Jacobsen.

The company's first headquarters were located in Copenhagen, Denmark.

After merging with the brewery assets of Norwegian conglomerate Orkla ASA in January 2001, Carlsberg became the fifth largest brewery group in the world. It is the leading beer seller in Russia with about a 40 percent share of the market. In 2009 Carlsberg ranked fourth worldwide, and employed around 45,000 people.

The company's flagship brand is Carlsberg Beer (named after Jacobsen's son Carl) but it also brews Tuborg, Kronenbourg, Somersby cider, Russia's best selling beer Baltika, Belgian Grimbergen abbey beers, and more than 500 local beers.

BEER BAN CAUSES CARLSBERG STAFF STRIKE IN COPENHAGEN

• Hundreds of staff at Carlsberg have gone on strike after a ‘beer ban’ was imposed by bosses at the factory in Copenhagen.

• The strike follows the company’s decision to limit drinking to lunch breaks only.

• Jens Bekke, spokesman, said that drivers retained a right to three beers per day outside lunch hours and that warehouse employees claimed the same right.

• ‘There has been free beer, water and soft drinks everywhere• ‘Yesterday, beers were removed from all refrigerators. The only place

you can get a beer in future is in the canteen, at lunch.’• ‘Because of that, the warehouse staff went on strike yesterday, with

other staff striking in sympathy,’ he said.• He stated that Carlsberg shipments from Copenhagen would not

occur on Thursday and that delays would occur in the rest of the country.

• Carlsberg’s trucks are fitted with alcohol locks, preventing drivers from drink-driving.

HOW ICT TRANSFORMED CARLSBERG? Before ICT, the company had poor communication in which they

faced the lack of networking or promoting their products. So after ICT came, they were able to promote and communicate worldwide.

The company now sells the best beer in the world because of the ICT system.

THE BENEFITS OF THE ICT SYSTEM

Productivity: With new technology, productivity should be increased as some activities will be speeded up.

Quality and accuracy: Machines are capable of producing the same standard of product over and over again, which reduces human error and therefore reducing waste or errors.

Lower labour costs: Machines and technology can replace some human tasks, and over time this will make some employees redundant. This saves the business paying wages for labour.

Communications: Through new technology such as email and video-conferencing, communications will be improved within a business and also to external customers. Communication between branches or even between countries will be improved.
