Carlton Speak 2015 Carlton Public School E-Bulletin
Term 3 - Week 4 Thursday 6 August 2015
Dear Parents and Carers
Last week we enjoyed the wonderful performances by our language groups; our school bands; our dance troupe and our choir groups during Open Day celebrations. This week we were treated with more wonderful performances from our talented students. Monday’s matinee and evening performances at the Opera House for the recorder concert were spectacular; Tuesday’s and Wednesday’s matinee and evening performances of the St George Performing Arts Festival was an excellent showcase for the talents of our choir singers and dance group. All of the time and effort that the teachers and students have put into their rehearsals was well rewarded as the large crowds appreciated the creativity, skills and participation of everyone involved. Thank you to Mrs King, Mrs Murchie, Ms Jordan, Mrs Nakamura, Mrs Jensen, Miss Martin, Ms Carnell, Mrs Smith and Mrs McElroy for their leadership and coordination of the groups and for providing these extra opportunities for our students. The senior choir get their chance to shine again during the matinee and evening performance today (Thursday) and I am very much looking forward to this event as well.
Congratulations
To Mr Granger, Mrs Milner and the organising team for organising a wonderful K-2 Athletics Carnival today. Some photos of the day will be published in next week’s newsletter as well as displayed on our digital screens.

The Memorable Night for the Recorder Ensemble
On 3 August, Carlton’s Recorder Ensemble performed at the Opera House
to showcase excellent musicianship through our recorder playing, along
with many other schools located in different parts of New South Wales.
We first had a rehearsal at the Sydney Opera House to prepare for the big
night of the Acacia Concert, the Festival of Instrumental Music. We were
introduced to the staff members of the Opera House who helped run the
concerts. We met the stage manager and the light and sound controllers.
We had a laugh while the sound controllers changed the pitch of the

microphone and had a mini light show from the light controllers.
After our four hour break for dinner, we came back to the entrance of the Opera House to commence the Acacia Concert. We
played the famous pieces such as ‘Rondo’, composed by Henry Purcell, ‘Dance of the Tumblers,’ composed by Nikolay-Rimsky
Korsakoff and ‘Swans of Lir,’ which was composed just for us by Stephen Chin. Our performances were conducted by the
talented Samantha Nicol. The recorder ensemble had a really fun time performing these magnificent pieces.
We were also able to see other talented musicians release their passion for music on stage while playing charming pieces to the
audience. There were string quartets, saxophone quartets, violinists, drummers and more. The beauty of the music that flowed
through the Concert Hall was admired by everyone.
The night was an enjoyable and memorable night for all of us. We hope to return again to play at the Opera House.
