Announcement of VacancyThe Board of Education of the Carlynton School District announces a vacancy for the position of Superintendent of Schools, effective July 2019.

Our School District The Carlynton School District, located just six miles southwest of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, is a small district uniting three proud communities with various ethnic, racial and socioeconomic populations. Our schools enjoy valuable partnerships with the likes of Carnegie Mellon University’s Fluency Project and Create Lab and the Google Education/Ed Tech Digital Promise/Dynamic Learning Project. STEAM labs offer innovative hands-on training stations to encourage creative thinking and the mastery of entrepreneurial skills. Likewise, the district presents a challenging curriculum to encourage all students to excel as independent thinkers and life-long learners, while offering each the support and motivation to do so with success.

The population of the Carlynton School District, kindergarten to grade 12, is about 1,340 students. Care is taken to maintain balanced class sizes at all grade levels. Both elementary buildings house students in grades kindergarten to six, while the junior-senior high school encompasses students in the seventh through the twelfth grades.

The Carlynton School District was formed under the mandate of the Legislature of Pennsylvania in the mid 1960’s. The name “Carlynton” was derived from the jointure of CARnegie, RossLYN Farms, and CrafTON boroughs.

Our Communities The Carlynton School District draws its students from three fine communities, all of which are strong in heritage, culture, and spirit. The boroughs’ excellent locations and traditional values make for an opportune place to live and do business.

The Borough of CARNEGIE The community of Carnegie offers a rich blend of ethnic groups in a diversified economy. Located four and a half miles from downtown Pittsburgh and ten miles from the Pittsburgh International Airport, the land area encompasses an expanse of 1.3 square miles with convenient access to the Parkway West and Interstate 79. The population slightly exceeds 8,300 residents, with a lively retail district located in the center of the community. Public transportation is easily accessible via the Port Authority of Allegheny County. Through the efforts of a revitalization group, the borough sparkles with new facades, which offer an enrich-ing artistic and historical flavor to the community. A recently renovated Carnegie Free Public Library

and Musical Hall offers history, restored books, and a beautifully transformed theater. Carnegie also offers well-kept residen-tial areas. The town

boasts of 21 churches serving many religious de-nominations. Recreational facilities are available at Carnegie Park and there are many playgrounds and ball fields throughout the community.

The Borough of CRAFTON With its beautiful, historic Victorian and Crafts-man homes, tree-lined streets, and safe neighbor-hoods, Crafton is a gem of a borough just miles from the city of Pittsburgh and a mere 20 minutes from the Pittsburgh International Airport.

Crafton’s 6,700 residents benefit from their close proximity to the Parkway, Interstate 79 and the new busway. The Crafton community offers a closeknit family atmosphere and strives to maintain that feeling through many organized community activities and well-preserved parks and recreational facilities. A shopping center is located within the borough, offering convenience and accessibili-ty. Many of the old and elegant homes in Craf-ton have been restored to their original beauty and document-ed by the Crafton Historical Society, adding to the dignity and pride of the community. A “Tree City USA” community, with a beautiful scenic valley, Crafton has been called home by generations of caring families. In 2011, Crafton was dubbed “The Best Place to Raise Children in Pennsylvania” by Bloomberg Businessweek.

The Borough of ROSSLYN FARMS Incorporated in 1913 as a quiet, charming suburb easily accessible to Pittsburgh. Rosslyn Farms is strategically located near main transportation links, downtown and the Pittsburgh International Airport. This small borough, enveloping fewer than 200 homes is defined by a well-maintained residential area and a geographically separate industrial area. At the heart of the pleasant com-munity is the Rosslyn Farms Community Center, which provides meeting and recreational facilities for numerous civic events and youth activities. A strong, active community club hosts a plethora of family-oriented activities for young and old alike. Residents can also enjoy the recently renovated tennis courts and pool, ball field, playgrounds and Parrish Park for leisure or exercise. The bor-ough is located just minutes away from Settler’s Cabin Park, which offers a wave pool, tennis courts, hiking trails, and picnic facilities.
