South Africa. Carried out a study, Habitual Physical Activity of Physical Therapy

Students in three institutions; findings used to fulfill requirements of a capstone

experience, peer reviewed poster presentation at the School of Health Related Professions

Research Day, University of Missouri, 2001.

Developed part of training manual in the area electromyographic recording and provided

training in the use of this equipment for a grant funded study looking at measures and

mechanisms of muscle pain in humans, consultant, Department of Physical Therapy,

Developed protocol and collected data to study exercise specificity for physical frailty;

2001-2003; developed statistical analysis using regression and analysis of variance for

two phases of the study, 2005-2007; co-investigator, Department of Physical Therapy,

Assisted with development and grant submission of a study looking into the effects of

treadmill speed and incline on gait parameters in young children with hemiplegia, 2006;l

utilized motion analysis system and an intervention program; grant awarded; co-

investigator, Department of Physical Therapy, University of Missouri, 2006-2009.

Collected data and sat on expert panel for a pilot study measuring functional performance

and instrument reliability for elders, grant funded, co-investigator, Technology for

Eldercare Research Group, University of Missouri, 2006-completed.

Developed fall risk assessment protocol for a NIH grant proposal studying technology to

automatically detect falls and assess fall risk in senior housing, participated in the

planning and writing of the grant with an interdisciplinary team including nursing,

electrical and computer engineering, sociologists, health informatics and physical therapy,

Technology for Eldercare Research Group, University of Missouri, submitted 2006;

resubmitted 2008, awarded through 2014.

Performed marker placement and assisted in data collection in a study looking at the

variability of ankle/foot movements during spontaneous lower extremity behaviors in

infants, co-investigator, 2006-2011.

Assisted with development and performance of a musculoskeletal screening protocol for a

study developing technology interfaces to provide range of motion feedback to elderly

people using exercise equipment, co-investigator, RAND/Hartford Geriatric Healthcare

Initiative, 2007-2009-completed.

Completed dissertation study that compiled a multidimensional fall risk screening tool

that was then used on 190 independent community dwelling adults, normative

information was gathered for adults aged 20-79. University of Mo, 2007-2009.

Completed data collection with ongoing dissemination of results fron several grants from

AHRQ and NSF with the Center for Eldercare and Rehabilitation Technology an

interdisciplinary research aging in place group on the university campus. Physical therapy

component responsible for consultation and participation on issues dealing with gait and

other functional physical performance measures in the area of fall detection and

prevention, 2009 to present.

Completed pilot study that developed and administered MIZZOU STEPS, an exercise

program for older adults in an aging in place facility. The exercise program was to be

short (six weeks) and progressive in nature to effect gait and functional activities.

Translated into bi-annual student physical therapist service learning class for the aging in

place facility residents 2013 to present.

Co-investigator on a NIA-PICORI grant that focused on validation of On The Move

exercise program at an assisted care living facility. Two part intervention with gait and

strength testing performed pre and post each phase of the study, 2014-2015,

dissemination 2016 to present.
