    1.  Downloading map files to mobile device

    There are following ways of downloading a .cmf map file to your Android device:

    1.1 Copy .cmf file to CarryMap Observer mobile application using file explorer

    - Connect your mobile device to the PC

    - Copy the required.cmf map file to the internal memory or SD card of your device

    - Run CarryMap Observer application

    - Tap button to view the list of maps downloaded to the application. The recently copied map will

    not be added to this list so far.

    - Tap button and select the saved map. Now it is loaded to CarryMap Observer and will be shown

    in the list of the application maps.

    1.2 Download .cmf file using a browser on the mobile device

    - Upload your map file to any online resource (e.g. your website, DropBox, Google Drive etc.)

    - In your mobile device browser open the website where you uploaded your map file

    - Click on a link to the map and select to download the required map file from the list

    - Run CarryMap Observer

    - Tap button to view the list of maps downloaded to the application. The recently copied map will

    not be added to this list so far.

    - Tap button and select the saved map. Now it is loaded to CarryMap Observer and will be

    shown in the list of the application maps.

    1.3 Send .cmf file to e-mail

    - Send the required .cmf to your e-mail

    - Open the received message on your mobile device

    - Download the attached map file to your device

    - Run CarryMap Observer

    - Tap button to view the list of maps downloaded to the application. The recently copied map will

    not be added to this list so far.

    - Tap button and select the saved map. Now it is loaded to CarryMap Observer and will be shown

    in the list of the application maps.

    2.  About the map dialog

    To view information about the map, go to the Menu (or ) and select the About the map

    item:

    The About the map dialog can be also opened from the maps list, to do this tap the button on the

    right of the required map name:

    To check whether your map has the time limit open the About map dialog - this information will be

    shown there.

    3.  Browsing the map

    - Zoom in/out and pan your map using pinch and swipe gestures.

    - Get back to the full extent by tapping the button.

    - Rotate map. When your map is rotated, the north arrow becomes enabled and looks rotated,

    otherwise it is disabled and straight. Tapping on the arrow returns the map to the default view.

    4.  Measuring distances

    Distance can be measured in meters or feet, go to Menu (or )and then Settings to select the

    required units:

    The default measurement units are meters, so to change those to feet enable the Use British units

    option.

    To measure distance select the Measure distance option (for smart phones) or select Menu

    (or ) and then Measure distance (for tablets). The map display window will look as following:

    - By tapping this button the nextpoint of the measured distance polyline will be

    automatically added to your current location.

    - This button allows cancelling yourprevious operation.

    - By tapping this button you candelete the last point added to your measured

    distance polyline.

    - This button is provided for deletingthe whole measured distance polyline.

    The measurement result will be shown in the upper part of your map.

    5.  Going to specified XY coordinates 

    The point’s coordinates can be entered in degrees (DMS, DD, DDM) or in map units. Note to use spaces

    between values when adding coordinates in degrees. When adding coordinates with western longitude

    and southern latitude note to add the negative sign (-) or W/S letter correspondingly before the

    coordinate value.

    Example: The geographic coordinates 81º 9' 20, 8" Е and 54º 47' 27,1" N in the Go to XY dialog should

    be written as follows: 81 9 20,8 (in the Longitude filed) and 54 47 27,1 (in the Latitude field). 

    In turn, the geographic coordinates 117º 21’ 36,83” W and 35º 38’ 20” N in the Go to XY dialog should

    be written as follows: -117 21 36,83 (in the Longitude filed) and 35 38 20 (in the Latitude field)  or: 117

    21 36,83 W (in the Longitude filed) and 35 38 20 (in the Latitude field). 

    To enter coordinates and to select measurement units tap Menu (or ) and then select the

    Go to XY option:

    If you check the Add pushpin to this location option, the pushpin will be added to the location with

    specified coordinates.

    6.  Identifying features

    When you tap on the feature, you can see the dialog showing the information about this feature. Note

    that data from those fields hidden in ArcMap will not be shown in the feature Identify dialog.

    The Identify option will also not work for layers specified as not selectable in ArcMap.

    To open the full identification dialog of the feature, tap button in the upper left part of the

    appeared panel.

    For smart phones:

    To view the feature on the map again, tap .To view the list of all features located under the

    selected feature on the map, tap (or ) and then Other objects:

    For tablets:

    To view the feature on the map again, tap in the Identify dialog. To view the list of all features

    located under the selected feature on the map, tap in the Identify dialog.

    7.  Links to local files

    To use links to local files stored on your mobile device in the Identify dialog the path to the linked files

    should be added to the corresponding text field in ArcMap before the map extraction.

    The path should look as following:

    file:///sdcard/download/file.jpg 

    or

    file:///storage/emulated/0/download/file.jpg  - this path can be found in your device explorer.

    8.  GPS positioning

    To enable GPS positioning option of your device tap button. The point indicating your current

    location will be shown on the map. If you tap this button again within the next five seconds, the GPS

    location option will be disabled.

    To track your locations on the move enable the Always center on GPS option. To do so go to Menu

    (or ) and then to Settings:

    To disable the sleep mode of your device while using the GPS positioning function on the go the Never

    lock screen option should be enabled:

    If the coordinate system of your map data is unknown or not defined, the GPS positioning option will be

    unavailable. The appropriate warning message will appear:

    9.  Pushpins

    CarryMap allows collecting point data by adding pushpins to the mobile maps. Pushpins are points withdescription, which can be added to your mobile map and then exported to KMZ for use in ArcGIS and

    other applications.

    8.1 Adding pushpins

    There are several methods of adding pushpins to your mobile map:

    - Adding pushpins to the map

    Long tap on the required point of your map to open the following menu dialog:

    Select “Add pushpin” to open the following pushpin editing dialog: 

    Enter the name for your pushpin, add description and select the pushpin symbol color, if required. Tap

    Save to add your pushpin to the map.

    - Adding pushpins using the Identify dialog

    For smart phones:

    In the Identify dialog tap Menu (or ) and then select the Add pushpin option:

    For tablets:

    In the Identify dialog tap button to open the Edit pushpin dialog:

    Enter the required data and then tap Save to see your pushpin on the map.

    - Adding pushpins to your GPS location

    Go to Menu (or ) and select Add pushpin to my location option. In the appeared Edit

    pushpin dialog enter the pushpin name and description, if required. The pushpin will be added to your

    current GPS location. In order to define your current location you need to enable this option in your

    device settings.

    - Adding pushpins to points with specified coordinates

    In Menu (or ) select the Go to XY option. In the appeared dialog enter the required

    coordinates and enable the Add pushpin to this location option:

    The pushpin will be added to the point with specified coordinates. You can enter both geographic and

    map coordinates for your pushpin. In the latter case enable the Map coordinates option.

    8.2 Deleting pushpins

    For smart phones:

    You can delete pushpins by clicking Menu (or ) and then Pushpins. Long tap on the pushpin

    you need to delete and tap Delete in the appeared dialog:

    To delete all pushpins at a time go to Menu (or ), then Pushpins, tap Menu (or )

    again and select Clear all pushpins option:

    For tablets:

    You can delete pushpins by clicking Menu and then Pushpins. Long tap on the pushpin you needto delete and tap Delete in the appeared dialog:

    To delete all pushpins at a time go to Menu , then Pushpins. In the Pushpins dialog tap and

    then OK in the appeared dialog. All your pushpins will be deleted.

    8.3 Editing pushpins

    After you created a pushpin, you can edit its name, description and symbol color. Editing can be done

    from the list of all pushpins or directly on the map.

    - Editing from the list of pushpins

    Go to Menu (or ), then Pushpins. The list of all pushpins added to your map will be shown in

    the dialog:

    Tap on the pushpin you need to edit to open the Edit pushpin dialog:

    For smart phones:

    Select the pushpin on the map and tap to open the pushpin information dialog. Tap

    (or ) and select Edit pushpin in the appeared list:

    For tablets:

    Select the pushpin on the map and tap to open the pushpin information dialog. In the appeared

    dialog tap the edit pushpin button :

    The appropriate dialog appears where you can make necessary edits.

    8.4 Exporting/importing pushpins

    In Menu (or ) select Pushpins to open the list of all pushpins added to your map:

    - Exporting pushpins

    For smart phones:

    Tap Menu (or ) and select Export from the drop-down list:

    Enter the name for the KMZ file to which all pushpins of the current map will be exported, then tap

    Export. The following dialog will be shown:

    For tablets:

    Tap Export button in the Pushpins dialog. In the appeared dialog enter the name for the KMZ file,

    to which all pushpins of the current map will be exported then tap Export.

    There will not be shown any dialog, and to view the output KMZ file just tap the Export button again.

    The new KMZ file will be shown in the appeared list:

    - Importing pushpins

    For smart phones:

    Tap Menu (or ) and select Import from the drop-down list:

    Select the required KMZ file from the list of the existing files for import. The following dialog will be

    shown:

    For tablets:

    Tap Import button in the Pushpins dialog. Select the required KMZ file from the list of the existing

    files for import. There will not be shown any dialog, but you will see new pushpins added to the

    pushpins list.

    8.5 Sharing pushpins

    - Copying exported pushpins to the computer

    Connect your mobile device to your PC and go to the folder containing the KMZ file with exported

    pushpins. Copy this KMZ file to computer.

    - Sending pushpins by e-mail

    Go to the folder containing the KMZ file with exported pushpins. After that long tap on the appropriate

    KMZ file in the Export or Import pushpin dialog. In the appeared dialog tap Send to email, select the mail

    client, enter the e-mail address and tap Send.

    - Copying pushpins from the computer to CarryMap Observer

    You can copy your pushpins saved in KML or KMZ files on your computer to CarryMap Observer

    application.

    To do this, connect your mobile device to your computer and browse to the appropriate KML or KMZ file

    with pushpins. Copy this file to the internal memory or SD card of your device.

    To add copied pushpins to your map go to CarryMap Observer application, tap Settings and import your

    pushpins.

    10. Searching for features

    The Search dialog is opened by tapping button:

    CarryMap allows searching for features by attributes, by pushpins, and by custom search. To toggle

    between search filters tap button and enable the required one in the list:

    Enter the required text in the search line. The search results will be shown as a list or grouped by layers:

    Besides, CarryMap allows searching for features by subtypes and domains specified for feature classes in

    ArcGIS geodatabases.

    11. Zoom scale settings

    These settings allow managing the feature zoom scales. They can be found in Menu (or ) -

    Settings:

    Enable the “Zoom to feature” option to specify the required maximum zoom scale. As a result, found

    feature will be shown on the map not larger than the specified maximum zoom value.

    You can select the following options of specifying the zoom scale:

    - Set default scale

    - with this option selected, the zoom scale for the found features will be calculated automatically, so

    that the whole feature is shown at the center of the device screen.

    - Set current scale

    - the current map scale will be used as the maximum zoom scale.

    - Set custom scale

    - the maximum zoom scale can be set by tapping the number indicating the scale value and then

    entering the required new value.

    For example, you need to set 1:3000000 as the maximum zoom scale for your features. To do this tap

    the number showing the recent scale and enter the new value 3000000.

    The new zoom scale value will be changed in the Settings tab:

    As a result, found feature on the map will be shown not larger than at the set 1:3000000 scale:

    Note that for polygon and polyline features the zoom scale can be smaller than one set in the zoom

    scale settings. The main priority of showing such features is that they should fit the device screen. For all

    other features the zoom scale of the found features will not exceed the set maximum scale.
