San Andres’s Island is one of the nicestplaces that Colombia has.

Located in the Caribbean sea, to the eastof Nicaragua, North-East of Costa Rica and720 kilometers to the northwest ofColombia Coast. It has 26 km² with atemperature average of 28 degrees duringthe whole year.This beautiful Island counts with adepartmental administration, banks,several hotels and an airport.

The population is a bilingual. Spanish is itsnative language and English is the secondmain one.

The principal way of communication of thearchipelago with countries is by air for which itcounts with the “General Gustavo Rojas Pinilla”Airport that allows the connection with themain cities of the country, as well as Center andNorth America.

Followed in importance by the maritime transportthat possesses wide and sure bays. The transportof load among these islands is done principally bythis way. Both, San Andrés and Providencia havehighways that border on the islands, as well assecondary routes that connect coastal hamlets withthe interior of the islands.

San Andres’s department offers innumerabletourist attractions from the natural, culturaland scientific point of view. The developedtourist infrastructure shaped by excellenthotels, casinos, restaurants and especially forlandscapes of great scenic beauty, do that thedepartment receives constantly a veryimportant number of visitors, so muchnational as foreigners.

The climate, the transparent sea, the beachesof white sands and the amiability of its peopleturn this island as an ideal place for the restand the recreation.

San Andres Island is projected, in a long term, as an Insular Caribbean International and Cosmopolitan territory, orientated to the conservation of the environment and centered on the

human being, framed in the century XXI with efficient routes of communication and an ideal infrastructure of public services, health and education.

In agreement with the plan revealed by Alicia Naranjo,director of the National Institute of Routes, theinvestments that will be realized during the next threeyears in the island will be of 47 billion pesos, includingthe “Construction of the Peatonal” on Colombiaavenue, recover the Colon Avenue, and re-paveseveral kilometers.

Located near to Cove bay where the sunhides, the forests join the national navy andcruises cross the Caribbean. It is propitiousfor the skin-diving.
