Page 3: Case study

It often makes a great difference if you are a man or a woman. Organizations often segment opportunity structures and job markets in ways that enable men to achieve positions of prestige and power more easily than women. Women can see opportunities at the top of their organization, but the path is often blocked by gender biases.

There is an implication that the rise of `HRM’ represents a potential advance for gender. The adoption of an HRM approach which emphasizes valuing and developing people in pursuit of organizational goals and which stresses the role of the individual and the importance of involvement opens the way for arguments about valuing all people and valuing diversity and enables the promotion of equality to be linked to achievement of business goals.
