Total Contract Value: £45k Year: 2010 Job type: VRF Installation Hard Rock Café instructed CBAC Services Ltd to come up with various proposals to heat & cool the lower basement floor; a feasibility study was completed taking into account the existing equipment and the remaining lifespan, the existing Trend air cooled package chiller had already been retrofitted from R22 to R422d in order to give the Hard Rock more time to budget for a replacement system. Due to the London Hard Rock Café being the first café the client did not want any impact on the building i.e. no exposed pipe-work, no wall mounted units as the existing walls are all covered with expensive memorabilia etc and in his words: “we want heating & cooling but do not want to see it” a difficult task in this building due to plastered ceilings with no access and no head room in the ceiling void. Our solution was a Mitsubishi Heavy VRF system comprising of 6 ceiling mounted cassette units, which we had to colour match with the existing brown ceiling and paint spray all the fascias. Due to the client wanting the system to be remotely controlled by the existing Trend BMS system, a LONGateway was installed to allow the Trend to talk to the units. The existing chiller was de-commissioned to allow disposal, all wet services for the existing heating & cooling were drained and left in situ reducing the amount of fabric disruption & damage which could take place. Finally the Hard Rock Café has heating & cooling on demand with the energy consumption being reduced dramatically and a system that just blends in, Client & Contractor both very pleased with the finished job.

Case Study – Hard Rock Cafe Location: London.

Total Contract Value: £45k

Year: 2010

Job type: VRF Installation

Hard Rock Café instructed CBAC Services Ltd to come up with various proposals to heat & cool the lower

basement floor; a feasibility study was completed taking into account the existing equipment and the remaining

lifespan, the existing Trend air cooled package chiller had already been retrofitted from R22 to R422d in order to

give the Hard Rock more time to budget for a replacement system.

Due to the London Hard Rock Café being the first café the client did not want any impact on the building i.e. no

exposed pipe-work, no wall mounted units as the existing walls are all covered with expensive memorabilia etc and

in his words: “we want heating & cooling but do not want to see it” a difficult task in this building due to plastered

ceilings with no access and no head room in the ceiling void.

Our solution was a Mitsubishi Heavy VRF system comprising of 6 ceiling mounted cassette units, which we had to

colour match with the existing brown ceiling and paint spray all the fascias. Due to the client wanting the system to

be remotely controlled by the existing Trend BMS system, a LONGateway was installed to allow the Trend to talk

to the units.

The existing chiller was de-commissioned to allow disposal, all wet services for the existing heating & cooling were

drained and left in situ reducing the amount of fabric disruption & damage which could take place.

Finally the Hard Rock Café has heating & cooling on demand with the energy consumption being reduced

dramatically and a system that just blends in, Client & Contractor both very pleased with the finished job.
