Principal’s Message - Neil Schneider
Beef Week is over for another year and we now evaluate our
2019 performance. We must congratulate St Mary’s Catholic
College on their win in the Beef Week Challenge Cup. They
certainly had a resounding win and the important lesson for us
is that we did our best, shook hands at the end of the game,
had a laugh and look forward to next year. Our music students
busking in the town centre were a pleasure to watch as we
showcased the exceptional talents of our students. We had a
big win in the Carcase Competition taking out the Champion
School Steer for the third time in twenty four years and also
overall Reserve Champion Carcase for 2019.
This week we had our Athletics Carnival and congratulations
must go to all competitors as they moved from event to event.
Having fun was a priority for the day.
The BIG NEWS this week is our success in the Combined High
Schools and All Schools Canoeing Championships. Casino High
School is now the Combined High Schools (CHS) and All Schools
Canoeing Champions for 2019. Declan Ellis is the CHS and All
Schools Male Champion and Callie Ellis is the CHS and All
Schools Female Champion. Other students included Casey Ellis,
Coen Powell, Corbin Woods and Mackenzie Soutar. This is
certainly a first for Casino High School and a remarkable
achievement. Congratulations to all the competitors and the
teachers involved.
Our Year 11 2020 Parent/Student Subject Information Night
was held on Thursday, 30th May in The Len Walsh Hall. This
was a resounding success with many parents/carers and their
current Year 10 students taking advantage of the opportunity
to speak to teachers and gain valuable information about their
subject options to be studied over the next two years. If for
some reason you have missed this night please contact the
school so that we can organise a time to provide you with
information. This will assist you and your child in making the
best subject choices for Year 11 2020.

SCHOOL NEWS
Year 11 Agriculture Excursion
Recently the Year 11 Agriculture class visited ‘Padua Park’ a dairy farm owned by Terry and Annabelle Toohey.
Throughout the morning the students gathered the information that they required to complete their Farm Case
Study. The students got to see the milking shed as well as the calf pens and a tour of the paddocks after a lovely
morning tea with Terry. Thanks must go to Terry for kindly hosting our group of enthusiastic Agriculturalists.
Biggest Morning Tea
Casino High School TAS Staff hosted a Biggest Morning Tea on Wednesday 29th May. Pictured are Teachers Chris
Clark, Sam Nicholson, Andrew Yager, Ben Harper and Shannon Love.

SHOWTEAM
Grafton Show 2019
Grafton Show 2019 started well with some great parading from the students on the Friday night; a special mention
again to Ebanee Dawson for entering the Junior Judging competition. The Saturday proved to be a bit chilly and the
day started with the steer classes. Our steer Rusty came away with 4th place in some tough competition. The girls
were up next with Nayla receiving 2nd place and Lily 3rd in the 24 months to under 30month age class. Rosie, with
QT her heifer calf, came away with 3rd place in the over 30 month class. It was a great weekend and thanks to all
parents and carers who came over on the day to support the team.

BEEF WEEK
Beef Week Education Day 2019
This year Casino High School once again participated in the Beef Week Education Day in the lead up to Beef Week.
The Show Team students participated in a number of workshops throughout the morning including, washing and
blowing cattle in preparation for showing, clipping, judging, nutrition and parading the cattle. The students had a
great day and got to meet many students from other schools around the area.
Beef Week Cattle Competition 2019
It was a cold start to Beef Week Saturday this year as the Show Team waited for the cattle to be weighed. The
students all worked well together on the day and prepared the cattle well for the ring. While the students all parad-
ed well the steers were just out done on the day in the ring. The judge did have a few looks at the steers, however
they did not get called up. In the stud section our heifers Lily and Nayla could not get past the cow and calf that
came out on top in the section. It was a great day and the students should all be proud of their efforts.

BEEF WEEK
Beef Week Carcase Competition
The closing day of Beef Week brought some ribbons and a School Trophy for the Show Team. Our smallest angus X steer came away with First Place in the School Steers and First Place in the Open Steers. Casino High School won the School Shield and we came away with the overall Reserve Champion Carcase in the Open Steers.
Beef Week Challenge Cup Vs St Mary’s
Casino High School took on St Mary’s High School in the annual Beef Week Sporting Challenge Cup last week. After
winning the Cup for the past three years we were fired up to keep a hold of it.
But we just didn’t produce the wins to get us over the line. We only had wins in: Girls Soccer, Open Boys League
and Archery by a forfeit. We lost all other games, some only narrowly though. So St Mary’s took the title 8 games to
3. We have a lot of work to do before next year and hopefully we can get that trophy back in our safe hands.
A big thank you to all the students that stepped up and wanted to be a part of it, and got involved with their
respective teams. An awesome effort by all. Without you willing to play we simply wouldn’t have teams to
compete. A big thank you also to the Staff who took teams and helped out on the day. The afternoon is all about
students having a good time and competing against each other in a friendly but competitive manner and I think we
certainly achieved that this year. Well done to St Mary’s and Casino High!!!!!

BEEF WEEK
Beef Week Friday
Last Friday students had the opportunity to dress up in the theme for Beef Week this year: Australian Made. As you
can see by the photos many enjoyed dressing up and prizes were awarded to best dressed and those that
participated in the catwalk display.
A whip cracking contest was also held in the morning to see who could display the best whip cracking skills. It was great to see many step up and have a go with some students displaying excellent skills.

SRC NEWS
SRC Patrons Report
We have been fortunate enough to have been the patrons of Casino High School’s Student Representative Council
this past year. Why do we continue to volunteer to be a patron of our SRC? We enjoy working with students who
care about our school; who care about making our school a desirable place for all students; who wish to have an
input into student life in our school; and who desire to develop their own leadership skills by volunteering to
manage and organise many SRC events and activities such as school social, fundraisers, BBQs at school events and
mufti days.
Congratulations to our incoming members on being elected into our Student Representative Council. These
students were brave enough to nominate themselves and step up within the school. SRC. We look forward to
hearing your fresh ideas and planning fun school events with you.
To the student body, remember the Student Representative Council is your ‘Student Voice’.
As Dr Seuss said “You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction
you choose.”
