PRINCIPAL REPORT - MR SCHNEIDER
The Trial Higher School Certificate Examination will be held
from August 20th through to August 31st. For many students
this will be their last assessment task prior to their actual
Higher School Certificate Examination which will begin in
Term 4, Week 2. Some students have project based work
that needs to be submitted by the dates which have been
determined by NESA, so that external marking can occur. I
have had the opportunity to view a number of these projects
and have been quite impressed by the talents and skills of
the students.
I acknowledge and thank all staff who willingly give of their
time outside of school hours to support students in the
completion of these projects and in providing study and
review sessions.
The Casino High School mobile phone policy has been in
place for a number of years. Mobile phones are not banned
from Casino High School as they are part of our modern
society and provide an extra level of safety for the child. The
aim of our policy is using mobile phones appropriately. It is
not acceptable to use them in a classroom and our school
policy is for phones and other digital devices to be in bags
until a teacher asks the students to get them out. If the
student continues to use it, the phone will be confiscated for
the day or if the situation continues to escalate then the
parent/carer will be called and possible consequences will be
discussed.
We also need to congratulate our Debating Team who
recently took part in the North Coast Regional Debating
finals. The Casino High School team were very competitive
debating against schools from the Tweed down to
Bulahdelah and were crowned Runner-up in the Years 9 & 10
final. Bryce Chapman was also chosen to represent the
region at the next level of the competition to be held later in
the year. CONGRATULATIONS to all involved. Parents, Carers and friends of Year 12 students please save the date

From the Deputies ...Ms Kearney and Miss Bennett
What a busy start to the term! We have had many activities happening throughout the school already this term. There was a fantastic representation of our students volunteering to officiate at the Small Schools’ Athletics Carnival, our Senior CAPA students delivered wonderful performances during the Senior CAPA night and Year 10 have also been involved in the Love Bites Program. Thank you for your attendance at the recent Year 7-12 Parent/Teacher interviews. We hope you found the evening informative and an opportunity to partner with the teachers in supporting your child’s education. It was great to see so many parents/carers in attendance and making that extra effort to communicate with their child’s teachers. Learning is a core value of Casino High School. Educational research tells us that attendance is one of the key indicators of successful learning. It is a priority to have students in class at all times. This includes arriving to school on time and getting to class on time. We ask for your support as parents and carers to partner with us to get students to school by 8.50am ready for class at 9.00am. This will enable students to make a positive start to learning each day. By now all students should have settled back into the routine of school and be focused on trying to achieve excellent results in their Yearly Reports. Year 12 will have their Trial HSC Exams in weeks 5 and 6 and Year 11 their Preliminary Yearly Exams in weeks 9 and 10. These students should be developing their study plans to ensure they are well prepared for their exams. Parents/Carers and friends of Year 12 students please save the date - Year 12 Farewell Assembly - Friday
28th September, 2018.

Year 8 Japanese
All Year 8 students at Casino High School study Japanese as it is a mandatory requirement to study a language other
than English for 100 hours. Students have learnt many new things about Japanese culture throughout the year.
Learning about other cultures can offer many benefits such as: other cultures are interesting, it can stimulate your
mind, it can foster understanding about others and make you realise there are different ways of doing things.
Learning another language can also boost your brain power, improve memory, improve your career prospects, and
build self-confidence.
So far this year some of the things they have learnt about:
Festivals
Numbers
Anime
Customs
Body parts
Origami
Greetings
Hiragana characters
And much more
Recently students learnt about the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki during World War II and the impact
nuclear war can have. They made origami cranes in recognition and memory of Sadako Sasaki.
They are currently doing a unit on Numbers and have learnt to count 1-10 in Japanese.

Thirteen athletes travelled to Coffs Harbour last week to participate in the North Coast
Regional Athletics Carnival and we managed to get some good results. We have a few
students who competed extremely well and have made it to the State Carnival to be held at
Homebush in Sydney in early September. The students who competed should be very proud
of themselves. Some athletes improved on their results from the Zone Carnival which was
great to hear. The students competed against athletes from the Tweed border all the way
down to Port Macquarie.
The following people have made it through to the NSW CHS State Athletics Carnival:
Isaiah Freeburn- 400m & Javelin
Deklan Hodder- 800m
Faith Pittman- 200m Hurdles & Long Jump
Makaela Scott- Shot Put
Extra congratulations to Makaela who broke a record in the Shot Put as well. Well done!
Other notable performances were: Lincoln Close (4th Shot Put), Isaiah Freeburn (3rd Shot
Put, 5th 100m), Brooke Hodder (4th Discus, 3rd Javelin), Taleesha Lambeth (5th 1500m,
4th 3000m), Faith Pittman (3rd 100m & 200m), Josh Cole (3rd Triple Jump).
We wish those athletes travelling to Sydney all the best and look forward to hearing about
your experiences and results.
