APRIL 2012
Somehow,I’m the bossThat’s right, I’m the boss. Muaha-hahaha !!! Seriously, what were they thinking?? It’s great to finally have the opportunity to be a part of the CAS MAX magazine, one of the most re-vered CAS projects of the recent IB year. I have tried my best to avoid messing up this month’s edition and deliver the job as thoroughly and suitably as possible. With the help, and by help I mean constant nagging, of Divanshu and the creative input and support of Abhinav, I have edited the articles and helped with the develop-ment of this month’s issue. I hope you enjoy the magazine and gain an insight into the CAS projects our colleagues have undertaken. Oh and before I for-get – ‘This month’s CAS MAX has been edited, like a boss’

Hello everyone! I am the designer for this edition and also the creativity jour-nalist. This edition is very special to all of us. This is th last edition for this se-mester. Therefore it had to be very unique.
Through this edition we have tried to look back at the whole year as a year of CAS and selectively incorporated the important events in the fields of Creativity, action and serviuce respectively. The design reflects the transi-tion of various events and topics. This months design is very fun and expres-sive. We have also introduced CASMAX annual awards. The april edition has been divided into sections and now makes it easy to go through the maga-zine. I sincerey hope that you all will like my work.Thank you! Abhinav

It AllOk.. By now, I know that you all have had enough of notes thank-ing people about graduation and farewell. But I needed to write something about these two weeks of life which I will never forget. It all started when Chahat and I started planning and plotting the taglines, then it escalated and become so much more responsible. Till yesterday, every night I would blame myself for taking up so much work. Now, I have realized how important this was to all the seniors and how I have brought happiness in their respective lives whether I knew them or not.
Truly speaking, I didn’t really know any of them before I started looking into their lives for info and stalking them on Facebook for pictures. Now, I know the name and achievements of each and every 12thie. If this is not learning what is?
Speaking about learning, I have learnt so much from each one of my batchmates who helped. Whether it was perseverance from Chahat, or commitment from Aditi or helpfulness from Jyoti Maam. Thank You SO MUCH!
and NOW for my dear seniors, yesterday you showed what gradu-ation is for a student and for the first time made me worry about my graduation. Today, you taught me how to have fun to fullest. Thank You I will never forget you and keep you all with me till the very end.
Sapna Maam. I would like to thank you the most for giving me such an opportunity. It was you who told me to do this and now, I feel so good. Thank You Ma’am.
Everyone else, who helped making this a grand success, who brought smiles and delight to the 12thies. I could keep on writing myself but as you have read I am not very good at articulating my thoughts. Thank You.
Again thank you seniors for letting me be a part of your life

Creativity as IB describes it: is an activity involving crea-tive experiences combined with artistic thinking. The IB program shows its diversity in the field of education by not limiting learning in to the classroom or for that matter to school. CAS in my defini- tion is a program that ena-bles young adults like me to make deci- sions that can decide their fate. I started walking on the never- ending road of learning and self-discovery and hopefully, marked some milestones. One full year has passed and now it’s the time to look back at those very milestones that I marked.
The first year of IB was ‘very eventful’, to describe it in a phrase, ‘happening’ to describe it in a word. My CAS journey started with “creativity”. The first event after me stepping into IB was Teacher’s day. Teacher’s day is a big event organized annually by the student mem- bers. Teacher’s day hap- pened right in the midst of me getting to know IB and the new faces around. Teacher’s day was a great success and it gave me immense confidence to proceed further with the CAS pro- gram. Then came a competition organized by the University of London. The competition was about poster making on the topic of ‘face of India’. This gave a lot of international exposure about the quality of work required outside the 4 walls of my art room. 2013 batch showed a lot of dedi-cation and en- thusiasm towards CAS and there came a list of activities for a whole month. The school started a program called School 4 School. S4S was for ser- vice but there was a competition to design the logo for the programme. Many entries were sent, but the design entry sent by me was chosen as the official logo. Similarly there was another competition to design the CAS logbook cover page and again my designs were appreciated and lauded. While these major projects were be- ing undergone, some small-scaled activities involving creativity were tak- ing place. There came something from the student members of our batch. Some CAS enthusiasts launched a forum called Gworld.me where all students could register and discuss problems, share notes, ask for help, and also get daily updates. This initiative really made life easy for all the candidates and the creative input by the founders was appreci- ated by one and all. I feel very proud being a part of the Gworld team. In January, another group of students launched a CAS newslet- ter, which was later converted to a magazine called CASMAX. The fact that I m writing this to you and you are reading it is because of CASMAX. So far CASMAX has launched 5 editions and it hopes to launch many more in the coming year.
The dedication of our batch is shown clearly in their efforts and creative inventions. I think, unlike other activities, creativity cannot be done or per- formed. Creativity can be only be experienced and throughout the year, I can say that I experienced creativity in every single moment.
What an amazing year this has been. Lots of activities, lots of fun, lots of studies and a lot of run. Another astonishing year is fleeting by especially for the action section in the IBDP. Honestly speaking, being an old student of GDGWS I knew that the strength of our batch in the field of athletics and sport was good but not great, but the addition of the new students took the potential of our batch to a newer and a higher level. As much as I am happy, I am surprised to see the capability of the new students. Students like Rishab Verma, Ameya Vikram, Harshil Goel, Zorawar Singh and many more have shown their strengths to the school. In the starting of the year there was a circle of competitive inter house tournaments for soccer, basket-ball and cricket.
Starting from soccer, stunning performance was showed by all of the students, but the highlighters were, again the new addition, Rishab Verma, Ameya Vikram and Neeraj Sheoran. Every team gave in their best but Cycus was declared the tournament champions after defeating the Sorbus house. It was an entertaining and satisfying tournament. Next up was the cricket inter house tournament, the es-timated winner was Cycas as it had outstanding talent and was winning the tournament almost every year,
but the whole school was shocked as the estimated result wasn’t the final one. As Madhav Sinha, new addition to the cricket team, joined my old school mate and an amazing crick-eter Virat Maan; the team took their
house Cedrus to a breathtaking win over Cycas.
Faking, fading, shooting, lefts, rights and lay ups .Basketball!!!!!! .Next came
the speedy game of basketball, which was the only sport not affected by the
newcomers. As expected, Cycas much like always won, the champions,
crown crushing every team on their way.
Our sports day
was an-
other event taking place with very high aggression. Again, the newcomers, taking it very seriously and enjoying all the events, track and field. Rishab Verma was claimed the fastest runner winning the 100m race. Ameya Vikram and Saksham kumar performed stupendously as well.Swimming made its way to one of the most important event of the year .Virat Maan, Rohane Taylor and Divyang Gup-ta performing exceptionally well to do so.Boxing!!! New trend started in GDGWS by Zoravar Singh did not take much time to spread. One of the most physical sports involv- ing every muscle of the body was now coming into fash-ion.As all of the areas of CAS, action took a really high jump, with the new students coming in and giving what they can to the school.

Almost a year spent in IB and community Service has become an everyday part of our lives. To complete CAS and hence IB, an IB student needs to devote his/her time providing service of some sort to the society. But spending time for the benefit of others is not a task that we have to do in order to get a diploma anymore; now provid- ing service is just another enjoyable activity that gives us joy, every time we are a part of it. There were several services that year one students were part of. Some opportunities were handed to us by the school and some were searched and found by the vigorously devoted students. School for School (S4S) was one program initi- ated by the school where every Thursday and Friday three groups of students would visit three different vil-lage schools and share as much knowledge as they could. Similarly Adaa, an NGO started by Captain Naveen, was a great place to visit every Sunday to teach small kids who were always keen to learn. These were some group projects students in a large number were part of. There were students who visited different Ngo’s and schools individually to provide their portion of service to the community. We have read about all these incredibly hard working students and their experiences’ in our previous Cas Max editions. It is heart-warming to see students care about the needy in the society and sincerely devote their time to fulfil their duty to the community. I, person-ally, am really glad that I have a new found love to help others and to think for their benefit over mine. It is CAS that has ignited these new qualities in us, which we will hold
on to forever.

Another year has passed and with it has gone an extremely productive and worthwhile IAYP experience. In the past year, students faced greater challenges and explored wider boundaries. The award has served as a catalyst to student participation, encouraging active involvement by young peo- ple not only in their co-scholastic activities but also within their community. Be it holding a walka-thon on International Woman’s Day, Organizing a Clean up Drive or actively vol- unteering at various NGO’s, our IAYP participation has truly come a long way.
First and foremost, GD Goenka World School held it’s second IAYP Award Distribu-tion ceremony, recognizing the diligent work of twenty-three IBDP students. Representa-tives from the National office of the IAYP acknowledged and admired the efforts made by the participants. The activities taken up by the students pursuing the award this year have been original and experimental; some took up gardening, others cooked, others volunteered to maintain decorum on school grounds. Some even managed to study stock market fluctua-tions! The school’s first ever forum launched with a bang, with over 100 students logging on to interact and access information each day. In addition, several Year 1 students have been actively and fervently volunteering at Apni Duniya Apna Aashiyana (ADAA), giving back to the community in possibly the most heartfelt and effective manner. It seems that each passing minute fills the participants with more passion and energy for the programme.
One could go on about the activities conducted in the past year for hours; a 500-word article can simply not suffice. The true question though, is why the programme has such an impact on partici- pants. What makes students of various backgrounds, ages and
interests come together to indulge in such an expe-
rience?
When asked about the reasons being their participation in IAYP, students of Year 2 had to say the following: • The desire to make a difference• The will to gain or improve skills • The desire to challenge oneself • To have fun • To demonstrate commitment to a cause • The desire to get recognized • To explore a career • To keep busy • To be a part of a team• To feel proud of oneself• To make new friends • The desire to gain balance in life, etc.
In the past, it was thought that the chief motives behind community service or co-curricular involvement were altruistic in nature. However, recent studies (along with our own involvement in the IAYP programme) have proved otherwise. When discussing the successes of the past year, importance should be given to the changed mindsets of students rather than the changed composition of activities. IAYP is not just a programme which initiates skillful, athletic and altruistic participation, but also encourages self-development and enlightenment. All other victories and social agendas aside, the past year has been a highly productive and fruitful one when it comes to altering mindsets of students and influencing the reasons behind their actions.

We are blithesome to announce the CASMax 5th edition or the special edition, as we like to call it, which is more improved and refined than its pre-vious editions. We consider ourselves lucky to be the part of the magazine. It has been a great experience till now and we hope it continues like this. This magazine has been a served as a platform for students who want to show-case their abilities and what they can achieve. From this magazine a number of students have been able to show their talents to the school.
In any successful project they are great number of people who contribute. But the mastermind behind the magazine, Mrs Vijayashree Pahal contri-bution has been intense. She is the source of the energy which keeps us going. There is a business proverb “ Having an idea is easy, but to implement it is the toughest part “. Implementation in our case keeps happening all the time, we have published 5 editions and each is better than the previous. CASMAX team goes to great lengths to produce the best and only the best, and this is the reason of our instant success. When you have the best people to work with, the best always comes out of it. Having said that We have a few people to thank: Tony as the designer for the earlier 4 editions; Yash as the editor for the past four editions and now ; and not to forget the journalists Snigdha and Chahat who showed dedication and produced great articles each time. This shows how the CAS Max team is both quali-tative and quantitative . Also the magazine could not have been complete with the photos by the talented photographers – Akshat , Nitish , Diwakar, Savya, Shivam, Riya and Yeyank. We would also like to thank the Sports and activity department for their assistance in making this magazine stun-ner. As This edition is special we have special people to thank in particular: Firstly Mrs Shanza Singh for supporting and contributing her design for the Gworld. me logo; Kanika Agarwal for lending her beautiful face for the contents page; Abhinav this month’s designer, who could put our thoughts into beautiful designs; Calvin whose writing gives a glimpse of his play-ful character and makes this edition fun to read. So we thank all you for supporting this magazine and making it the second biggest project after Gworld. me started by this batch. Thanks to Principal and Vice Principal.Last but not the least, we would like to thank our readers for bearing with us and forgiving the mistakes we have made in the past. We assure you from our side that we will take this magazine to new heights and keep sur-prising you with each edition.
