Issue

The company did not have an orderly budgeting process in place. In addition, they did not have tools to automatize the budgeting process. This situation resulted in permanent manual data loading involving huge operational and data integration efforts. Moreover, the time required for estimating the budget forced the team in charge to invest an excessive amount of hours in the task.

Planning

The aim of the project was to eliminate the handling of tens of traditional Microsoft Excel Spread sheets from the budgeting process.This traditional process involved multiple players and interactions using complex formulas which results were to be reflected in the integration of all inputs into a single consolidated P&L.

QlikView

QlikView stood out due to its ability to quantify and validate goals in a very simple manner, and to its ability to streamline budgetary control and versioning. Thus, the company was able to consolidate critical information in record time and to identify manual flaws that had not been previously identified. In addition, the project met the implementation deadlines established, resulting in a positive experience with each of the parties involved.

Currently BlueChip by Qlik supports Despegar in the area of planning and finance, as they no longer use spreadsheets to upload operative information.

Why BlueChip?

The decision making process to select a new software vendor involved the analysis of proposals for world class solutions, such as Oracle and BlueChip by Qlik. Both suppliers were already providing services to the company, so the decision was not simple.

The CFO of the company had experience using the Oracle solution and perceived it as a significant differential factor; however, the price-quality ratio offered by BlueDraft was critical to the final decision.

Next steps

The company has decided to move forward the purchase and implementation of two other major modules including BlueChip: Statutory Consolidation and Controlling. These modules are of great significance for the company, since they will enable the integration of all financial areas.After integrating these modules, the next step is to implement the Cash Flow module.
