His historyThe Palace of the Celles Tower is a large palatial rural baroque building. It was erected, apparently, from a late medieval tower. Initially built probably in the 16th century, it was enlarged and rebuilt at the end of the 17th century by Pedro Argüelles Quirós y Valdés, Dean of the Cathedral Church of Santiago de Compostela, who, around 1668-1673, ordered his reconstruction to the architect Cantabrian Diego González de Gajano. Its southern facade, however, could be due to the Galician architect Domingo de Andrade. After the death of the dean, the palace passed into the hands of the Navia and later to the Marquis of Santa Cruz de Marcenado, its current owners.
