DaikinMcQuay6-to10-tonhorizontalunitshaveacom-moncabinetsizeandcommonwater,condensate,andductconnectionlocationsforeasierandmoreefficientinstalla-tion.Thecabinetisconstructedofunpainted,G-60galvanizedsteel.Largepanelsprovideaccesstothefan/motorcom-partmentandthecompressor/controlcompartment.Thein-teriorsofthetopandsidepanelsandthebottomoftheunitarecoveredwith1/2"thick,1½lb.dual-densityfiberglassinsulation.Thefilterissupportedbyafactory-mountedcombinationfilterrackandreturnairductcollar,eliminat-ingtheneedforfield-mountedbrackets.Thewaterandcondensateconnectionsprotrudethroughtheoutsideofthecabinet.ThewaterconnectionsareFPTtypeforeasyconnectiontoflexiblestainlesssteelhoses.Thelargecondensateconnectionprovideseffectivecondensateremoval.Theelectricalcomponentsarelocatedinthecompressorsectionoftheunit.Holesareprovidedonthecabinettofa-cilitatemainpowerandlowvoltagecontrolwiringthroughseparateholes.Allwiringconnectionsaremadeinternaltothecabinetformaximumsafety.Eachunitisratedtoaccepttimedelayfusesforbranchcircuitandisprotectedbyaresettablecircuitbreaker.ThestandardcontrolforalllargecapacityunitsistheMicroTech™IIIunitcontroller.Theunitcontrollerreceivesitspowerfromthe75VAcontroltransformer.ALonWorks®orBACnet®communicationmoduleisavailableasanoption.

Refrigeration SystemUnitshaveadualcircuitdesignandthetwocircuitsoperateindependentlytoenableloadsheddingwhenconditionsal-low.Eachcircuitemploysarandomstartfeaturetopreventbothcompressorsfromenergizingsimultaneouslyafteran“unoccupied”cycle.Unitscontaintwoofeachrefrigerantsystemcomponent,includinghighefficiencycompressors,plate-to-plateheatexchangers,reversingvalves,expansionvalves,high/lowsiderefrigerantservicevalves,andrequiredsafetycontrols.Largeaccesspanelsareprovidedforeasyserviceaccesstoanyofthesecomponents.Thereversingvalvesareenergizedintheheatingmodeandwill“fail-safe”tothecoolingmode,whichisthepredomi-nantmodeofoperation.Theair-to-refrigerantcoilisadualcircuitcoilononeslab.Itissplitequallyalongthehorizontalaxisformaximumefficiency.Thefinsarelancedandthetubeshavefinnededgesontheinsidetoenhanceheattransfercapabilities.

Ductwork and Sound Attenuation ConsiderationsDuctworkisnormallyappliedtoceiling-mountedheatpumpsonthedischargesideoftheunit.Adischargecollarisprovidedonallhorizontalunitmodelsforfasteningtheductwork.Useaflexibleconnectorbetweenthedischargecollarandtheducttransformationtohelpreducevibrationtransmissionfromthecabinetandtosimplifydisconnectionoftheunitfromtheceilingductwork.Ifreturnductworkistobeused,attachaflexibleconnectortothefilterrackcollartohelpreducevibrationtransmissionandremovaloftheunit.Returnplenumductingshouldbeatleast12inchesawayfromthecoilsothatthecoilisevenlyloadedwithreturnair.Asageneralrecommendation,ductinteriorsshouldhaveanacoustic/thermalliningatleast1/2inchthickovertheentireductrun.Forbettersoundattenuation,linethelastfivediametersofductbeforeeachregisterwithaone-inchthicksoundblanket.Elbows,teesanddamperscancre-
