Adamdale Farms was started in 1989 with 3 registeredSimmental Cows and 2 calves. Since then, our herd hasgrown to 150 head of registered cattle through artificialinsemination and embryo transfer breeding. Our two girlshave shown these cattle in competition throughout thenation with the American Simmental Association and 4H.We maintain a certified herd against disease includingBrucellosis, PI and on the Johne’s Control Program. Ourgreatest assets are certainly the quality of the genetics thathas been developed in our cattle, but also the experience,life lessons learned and friendships formed through ourcattle ties. Our motto for our family has always been “Weraise Southern Belles and Simmental Cattle”.

The Rockhill Ranch is located in Purvis, Ms. and is owned by Rickey andGay Nicholas. We have been in the registered cattle business since 1997and have consigned to the CPP sale for the past 6 years. We originallystarted our registered herd with Black Angus and have since addedSimmental, SimAngus and Simbrah genetics to our herd. Our Angus cowscontinue to be the foundation of our herd and we have discovered thatthe crossing of the Angus and Simmental genetics makes for a vey growthyoffspring that has excellent carcass traits. We recently added Simbrahinfluence into our herd and are seeking to breed a SimAngus pedigreethat is 1/2 Simmental, 3/8 Angus and 1/8 Brahman. This mix would resultin a cow with good growth and carcass qualities and one that can bettertolerate the hot humid summers in the south. We thank you for your sup-port of the CPP sale. At Rocky Hollow Farm, we have focused our program on raising quality purebred Simmentals. We purchased our firstSimmental 18 years ago and have been extremely satisfied with the performance and disposition of the breed.

We raise and market purebred and percentage replacement heifers and purebred Simmental and SimAngus bulls. Ourherd program targets commercial cattlemen by providing bulls and heifers that have calving ease, fleshing ability, gooddispositions and affordable to purchase. We use artificial insemination on 90% of the cows. This method of breedingallows us to use bulls that are proven sires and trait leaders. We have concentrated on traits that we know commercialcattlemen consider important to their bottom line. Calving ease, to make sure you get a live calf without problems.Weaning weights, to give you those extra pounds on the scale at sale time. Disposition, because no one wants to deal with crazy cows and bulls.

Our herd has been certified brucellosis free and our health program includes weighing, vaccinating and worming eachcalf on a set schedule.

There are several reasons we have joined Carcass Performance Partners to market bulls. We are a family farm and wewanted to consolidate marketing efforts with others to build a solid strategy for selling our best animals. We believe thatyou should stand behind the product you sell. It should meet or exceed the standards that the seller has represented. Webelieve that the past buyers of our bulls that have been marketed with Carcass Performance Partners have been satisfied,and that is why we have numerous repeat customers.

Triple S Farms originally started in 1954 as a dairy farm with 9 dairy cows by my parents Ezra andCharline Smith.Dad went all Jersey in 1969 and shipped Jersey milk until 1988 when the dairy wasdispersed. I entered the partnership in 1975 with my Dad and added the Simmentals and Simbrahin 1989. It was those years as a 14 year old A.I. technician and later as a GMS Evaluator and Rep forAmerican Breeders Service, that taught me the benefits of Superior Genetics! I have always beenfascinated by taking ‘Cow A’ and breeding to ‘Bull B’ and seeing the results that challenged me tobreed every cow A.I. to the best bulls in America.You see in 1969 to 1988, almost all 200 Jerseyswere bred A.I. with no clean-up bull. Heat detection, nutrition, and daily management became arequired attribute to get the job done.

Since 1989, we started with just a few head, 8-10, to beyond 75 head at different points of time, allthe while maintaining the best quality genetics available in the U.S. Today,Triple S Farms is smallby most standards. Much of the rented land has been gobbled up by subdivisions.This puts morepressure on our management,genetics, efficiency, and cow families to keep us ahead of the prof-itability curve.We strive to produce Simbrah, Simmental, and SimAngus bulls of the finest quality. The Secret of “Fat Bulls”Do buyers really want to buy fat, lazy bulls? How does fat

make a bull better? Fat bulls do look thicker (with a half inchof fat covering you would look thicker too) and their weights

are more impressive (fat can easily add 100-200 pounds ofweight but it does not represent growth or muscle). Puttingfat on bulls is like spray-painting over rust, they look better

but it doesn’t change what’s underneath.

A bull’s looks are important to help determine type, kind andstructure. Is the bull structurally correct? Does he walk on abig sound foot with a long smooth stride? Is he tall and nar-row or moderate and thick with muscle? What’s his disposi-

tion like? These are very important pieces of information youmust look for beyond the genetic descriptions given from

EPD’s. How a bull looks and moves is important but none ofthese traits have anything to do with excess fat.

Fat bulls have been conditioned to sell better not work better.It’s hard to move, breeding takes more effort and bulls tire eas-ier because they are not conditioned and developed to chasecows, cover pastures and work for a living.
