Filing drawers
For your safety: when opening a drawer the central mechanism blocks the opening of the other drawers.In case the mechanism of the drawers is simplified and allowsopening of all the drawers at the same time, there is a danger of the cabinet to fall towards the user!

Filing drawer
For your security: the central mechanism, when opening any drawer, blocks the opening of
the other drawers.
In case the mechanism of the drawers is simplified and allows opening of all the drawers at the
same time, there is a danger of the cupboard or locker to fall towards the user!

Materials
Advantages: - beauty, warmth and comfort of the natural ecological products;
- incomparable pleasure from the touch of natural wood;
- under some conditions, the small damages on the surfaces can be repaired.
Disadvantages: Comparatively easy to damage, in spite of the hard varnish covers. The furniture needs to
be carefully treated. Due to natural processes in wood, the colour of the materials changes in long term
and it is very difficult to produce additional furniture.
160
Used materials
ORT furniture is made of various types of materials. Generally, they are divided in two main groups:
natural and artificial.
ORT – important conditions for perfect long-life office furniture
Solid wood – cherry, oak and beech
These are specially selected slats, without defects (and
without knots), made in the USA. They are obtained from
industrial plantations, e.g. private, ecologically clean
forests, controlled and renovated all the time. The materials
are dried in special dry houses, where the conditions of
drying are optimal for each kind of tree. Shapes and sizes
of the slats are completely formed and guaranteed after
the drying process.
This solid wood is used in ORT for the production of perfect
table and cabinets tops. Despite the relatively high price
of the material, the price of the final products remains
about three times lower than the market price of the same
products in Europe. The charm of this natural material is
incomparable. From the same material we produce solid
wood edges for veneered tops. These edges give feeling
of solid wood. solid wood
161
MDF boards (Medium Density Fiberboard)
These boards are completely made of thin cellulose particles
in their volume. They are firm, with thin structure, and are
often used in the production of profiled details. They are
appropriate for direct surface treatment or in combination
with natural veneer and solid wood. In ORT we usually use
boards from MDF for the production of representative office
furniture in veneer, as well as furniture and interior elements
with a special design.
Advantages:- boards MDF are more resistant to water;
- they are firmer and ensure maximum precision
of details.
Disadvantage: relatively higher price than chipboard.
Natural veneer – cherry, oak, beech and fine line,
natural or tinted in different colours
Veneer, which is used in ORT, is made in the EU from solid
wood, also delivered from the USA. In this way we reach
maximum similarity in the colour and shape of the fladder, so
the two materials combine well. The natural veneer keeps the
beauty and exquisiteness of the natural wood.
Nature comes to your office.
What is better than working and living in harmony with
nature? The wood has its second life with the beautiful
furniture of natural veneer and solid wood.

Chipboard
Chipboard is the most used material for furniture
manufacturing all over the world. The boards used in ORT are
Germany and Austria made. They are ecologically clean and
do not contain dangerous emissions for health (glues). They
comply with European E1 Standard. They have the necessary
firmness quality, which ensures the long guarantee period of
the ORT furniture. The structure of the boards is extremely
thin to the two surfaces, which ensures the smoothness of
the surface layer. The composition of the fragments (a precise
combination of deciduous and coniferous wood) is specially
selected to provide maximum firmness and optimal weight
of 750 kg/m3. Boards with less density do not contain the

Advantages: – conventional product wide spread because of its good price;
– the good quality material provides firmness and long guarantee period;
– shock-resistant material;
– technologically convenient for the production of office furniture of various design and size.
Disadvantages: it is easily damaged when being in contact with water for a long period of time (swells).
It is repaired only by replacing the whole detail.
Melamine
The term refers to the board surface mostly used in ORT’s production. In fact, this is paper, which is impregnated
with special resins and coloured (decorated) in various colours or patterns. The producers of this kind of paper
offer extremely large variety of colours and wooden decors, including some, imitating the relief of the fladder. In
ORT we keep on stock materials for the production of melamine furniture in 8 different colours and 4 thicknesses
(12, 18, 25 and 38 mm). Slowly, as time goes by, some of the colours are replaced with new, modern and actual
decors. Mass colours, however remain unchanged for a long period of time, so that our clients are able to order
additional items to their previous furniture from ORT.
necessary quantity of wood fragments to ensure the firmness of the final product. Furniture, made of chipboard
with less specific weight, is cheaper, but without good guarantee.
Advantages:– extreme firmness and long-term resistance;
– resistance to temperature;
– resistance of the surfaces colours (insignificant colour change due to sun rays and long-term use).
Disadvantage – the surface of the furniture can not be additionally processed and repaired. If damaged,
the whole detail must be changed.

Glass
In some of ORT products we include glass elements (table tops, cabinet doors, etc.). The glass is delivered
from the Czech Republic, produced by using the “float” technology, in thicknesses of 4, 5, 8, 10, 15 and 19 mm;
transparent or with grey-black toning with polished edges. The table tops can be made of tempered glass upon
request.
Disadvantage of the tempered glass – after tempering there can be some deformation; it can not be additionally
processed or corrected; the price is relatively higher and the delivery terms are longer.
Metals
Metals, used in ORT production are:
– precise steel tubes, made in Italy, Austria and Switzerland. The tubes are with geometrically regular sections
and precise dimensions. The smooth surface ensures the perfect finish after powder-coating or chrome-
plating;
– metal sheets with guaranteed thickness and homogeneous structure – without internal tension; when
bended and welded, the metal components ensure the shape and firmness of the final product;
– final metal products, such as steel roller bearings and others;
– stainless steel (INOX) for the production of various interior components and products;
– aluminum metal sheets and profiles as a separate material or in combination with other materials (such as
plywood, plastic etc.).
Translucent panels − “Botanica”
These panels made of transparent acryl material with natural
botanical elements in it: grass, leaves, and bamboo straws.
Extremely attractive, this material changes the look of the
office creating an atmosphere of exotic traveling. It is suitable
for producing details and accessories for partition walls,
which separate work places, tops for desks and conference
tables, cabinet doors, etc.
Corian®
Corian® is a high technological composite material from natural
minerals, connected by clean acryl polymer. It is developed to
create a product, visually similar to stone in its various forms:
granite, marble, mosaic, etc. At the same time, however, the
products made of Corian® have extremely flexible shapes,
almost without limits of their implementation in office interior,
public spaces and home comfort. Under certain conditions, the
details of this material become elastic and harden again, taking
the desired shape. They stick between each other without any
visual traces.
164 IMPOR TANT CONDITIONS
Corian® is a trade mark of DuPont®
The surface is amorphous, non porous, and can
be thoroughly cleaned and even disinfected for
the needs of medical treatment departments and
laboratories.
Because of the large variety of colours, technologies
for processing and resistance, Corian® is perfectly
applicable for producing tops for office furniture,
reception desks, facing of walls and columns,
partitions and dividing panels.
It can be applied perfectly for sinks, bathrooms,
kitchen tops, staircases, interior elements and
furniture for schools and kindergartens.

Plastics
Some special constructive plastics are used by ORT for the production of main and secondary details and
elements. These plastics represent a relatively small part of the whole volume of the materials, used in the
production program of ORT. Shock-resistant plastics are used for the production of details and mechanisms
for the unique product SeatTable. Other products, made of these shock-resistant plastics, are the decorative
covers which hide the cable canals of the work desks, furniture castors, decorative stoppers, anti-noise rings for
the bearings of the drawers and other elements of the hardware. ORT does not use large-dimensional plastic
details.
Covers
Covers for natural materials
The surface of the furniture solid wood or natural veneer is processed with:
− Stains (if the chosen from the client colour of the wood is not the natural one). The company has some
main stains available. For big orders, it is possible to provide some additional colours, according to the
needs of the client. The stains are imported, mainly from Italy and Germany.
− Ground coat - usually from two components and polyurethane. It is used to seal the wood without
filling the pores of the fladder. The surfaces are well-sanded before polishing.
− Polish – polyurethane, from two components, it provides soft brilliance of the surface, transparent
and gives maximum solidity and resistance. Good protection against water and even good thermal
resistance (up to 70 degrees Celsius). As an option, it is possible to amend or improve the level of the
brilliance of the polish, according to the client’s preferences. Serial realization – semi-mat.
Covers of the metal parts
ORT has modern Swiss equipment for electrostatic powder-coating metal products. The cover is very resistant
and gives an aesthetic look of the details. The most used colours are ‘polar silver’, ‘titan’, ‘anthracite’, black and
white, but there are many other possibilities, as well. Some of the metal details can be chromium plated.

METAL to METAL fits
It is a trademark characteristic feature of the
office furniture, made by ORT. Together with
the immaculate materials, which the separate
components of the products are made of, the fits
between them are always metal to metal. Every
time we joint or disjoint furniture, in fact we operate
with metal components, which are in contact with
other metal components. There are no detachable
joint between two details and some screws driven
directly to the chipboard, MDF or massif. Such
joints, especially screws, driven directly to chipboard
with low density, strongly compromise the furniture
and make it unstable, dismountable and of short
use. All fittings, used in ORT’s furniture, are German
and of high quality.
