    GRANT PISTON RING SET TYPES

    Plain Cast Iron Piston Ring Sets: These ring sets contain compression rings which are manufactured to precision specifications from high grade cast iron castings. Top and second rings are black phosphate coated. Chrome Cast Iron Piston Ring Sets: These ring sets contain top compression rings that are chrome plated for resistance to wear and scuffing. High strength iron is used where applicable. Second rings are black phosphate coated. Chrome Steel Piston Ring Sets: These ring sets contain top compression rings made from steel. Steel material is known for its high strength and excellent fatigue resistance. These rings are chromed plated for resistance to wear and scuffing, and lapped for faster sealing. Second rings are usually black phosphate coated. Molybdenum Piston Ring Sets: These ring sets contain Molybdenum coated top compression rings. This coating reduces scuffing and scoring and improves heat transfer from the piston to the cylinder block. Molybdenum also provides improved lubrication and longer life.   • What is the Top Compression Ring?The top compression ring is located in the first ring groove and has the primary function of sealing the combustion gases. It is also the means by which heat is transferred from the piston to the piston walls.

    What is the Second or Intermediate Ring?This ring serves a dual purpose. The second compression ring assists the top compression ring in sealing and heat transfer. It is also used in oil control by shearing the layer of oil left by the oil ring so the top compres-sion ring has enough lubrication.

    What is the Oil Control Ring?The oil control ring is just that, it controls the oil that is splashed onto the cylinder walls from the connecting rod bearing throw-off. The rings scrape the cylinder walls returning the scraped oil back to the crankcase. Oil control rings cannot let oil pass between the face of the ring and the cylinder through the ring gap or pass behind the ring.

  • Qu es el anillo de compresin superior?El anillo de compresin superior se ubica en la primera ranura para anillos y tiene la funcin primaria de sellar los gases de combustin. Tambin es el medio por donde el calor se transfiere del pistn a las paredes de ste.

    Qu es el anillo secundario o intermedio?Este anillo cumple dos propsitos. El anillo de compresin secundario ayuda al anillo de compresin superior al sellar y transferir el calor. Tambin se usa para controlar la lubricacin, ya que corta la capa de lubricante que deja el anillo de lubricacin, a fin de que el anillo de compresin superior est bien lubricado.

    Qu es el anillo de control de lubricacin?El anillo de control de lubricacin es exactamente eso, controla el lubricante que salpica a las paredes del cilindro desde las descargas del cojinete de biela. Los anillos raspan las paredes del cilindro, regresando el lubricante raspado de vuelta al crter del motor. Los anillos de control de lubricacin no pueden dejar que el lubricante pase entre la superficie del anillo y el cilindro a travs de la separacin del anillo o detrs de ste.

Ele tambm usado no controle do leo, cortando a camada de leo deixada pelo anel de leo para que o anel de compresso superior tenha lubrificao suficiente.
