Rail Clamp System VZE / VZM Obstacles on rails can be navigated without problems because the rail clamp system VZE / VZM feature a vertical lifting of clamp tongs during opening to move the clamp-shoe above top of rail. The clamp system VZE / VZM mounted with a floating housing (SG) is able to compensate with use of guide idlers, rail misalignment to +/- 25 mm horizontally. Rail Clamp System VZFH Two massive, inflexible clamp levers are closed with a compression spring system by means of knee levers. (Fail-Safe-Principle). No loss of clamp force resulting from jaw wear because the reduced spring force is compensated by the increasing knee lever transmission. A near by constant contact force is so assured. The described clamp system is situated within a support frame that runs on crane rails guided by idlers. By comparison to the surrounding housing which is mounted to the rail bound vehicle, moves the clamp system freely in a horizontal and vertical direction following the contour of rails. A misalignment of rails in relation to the vehicles undercarriage can be compensated within the limits of +/- 20 mm vertically and +/- 25 mm horizontally. A new developed vertical and horizontal guidance system (VHS) assures a vertical position and prevent tilting of the clamp system independent from the shape of rail top. The rail clamp VZFH is released by hydraulic cylinder which pulls the clamp levers against the constant spring force to open the rail clamp. By using an adjustable throttle-check-valve closing time of the rail clamp is adjustable from 15 to 20 sec to ensure a stand still of the rail bound vehicle before closing of clamp. The rail clamp is for holding and securing purposes only. The rail clamp should not be closed if the rail bound vehicle moves. Each VZFH is completely delivered inclusive hydraulic unit, hand pump, function and monitoring switches and terminal box. A guard hood with inspection flaps is part of the standard equipment. Rail Clamp System VZH The most compact of Roemer rail clamps are types VZH. This system opens and closes by a double action hydraulic cylinder. Horizontal compensation for possible track misalignment averages +/- 15 mm. The standard version of the rail clamp VZH is actuated with a hand pump and a trip-valve. The open position of the rail clamp is checked by a limit switch. The closed position of the rail clamp could be checked by a pressure switch and a pressure gauge. Optional an electric hydraulic unit with all control valves is available.
In case a Fail-Safe-System is needed a totally enclosed hydraulic system with pressure tanks can be furnished to close the clamp in case of power failure.

Floating Guidance Type VHS Guide idlers align the rail clamp and compensate vertical and horizontal movement in relation to the rail. The clamp car mounted inside the clamp housing, which is attached to the crane, is guided so it floats free horizontally and vertically within limits. In addition there is a vertical-horizontal guidance system (VHS) between clamp car and housing to assure a vertical position by prohibiting the clamp car from tilting round the longitudinal axis (parallel to the rail). The general arrangement of the guidance system shows the horizontal guidance of the clamp car by a rod (5). The rod stays in horizontal position by a support (2) connected to a guide bar (1) to keep it from tipping. The prevention of clamp car tilting assures an even wear on both guide idler and avoids rubbing wear at the linings of the clamping jaws.

1) For version „Fail-Safe-System“ (-S) total height will increase by 350 mm. Operating Principle The rail clamp system type VZH-A-S consists of three main units: - the rail clamp VZH - the hydro unit -A - the Fail-Safe-System -S
It’s an all-purpose clamp system to fix rail bound vehicles to the rail – for example cranes etc.. An unintentional movement of the vehicle due to wind will be prevented.
The rail clamp is flange mounted to face of the head frame or under-carriage of the crane. To compensate wheel flange clearance a set of guide idlers leads the clamp system along the rails with a clearance of 2 mm on either side. A vertical movement of +/-15 mm of clamp system compared to mounting flange is guaranteed, if the rail clamp is mounted above centre-line of rail.
Alternatively a hand –pump or a remote hydraulic unit are available. The Fail-Safe-System is optional, it ensures a closing of rail clamp in case of power failure because of a totally enclosed hydraulic system with a surge tank.
