Orthodontic prevention

Giving up sucking habits early no later than 2nd birthday will prevent malocclusion and jaw discrepancies. It will also contribute to the self-healing process of any deformation already occurred.

If sucking becomes a permanent habit, pacifiers, thumbs, fingers and baby bottles will disturb the normal de-velopment of the jaws. In the childs mouth they are foreign objects, which cause malposition of the teeth andjaws.

STOPPi® is an oral screen made from silicone with lateral bite planes to keep the appliance in the mouth moreeasily. Typically there is no frontal bite plane between the teeth, so it does not cause an open bite. Undisturbedself-regulation is possible with slight bite opening.

Habits and oral dysfunctions alongside early loss of deciduous teeth due to caries are the most commoncauses of malocclusion and jaw discrepancies. Pacifier or thumb sucking especially deform the upper jaw andlead to an open bite, lateral crossbite and retrusion of the lower jaw.

Starting from 4 years of age bad habits can be eliminated in the primary dentition by means of early preventionand interceptive treatment e.g. with a prefabricated oral screen, thus avoiding the transfer of the aberranceto the mixed dentition.

CMDBRUXI®plus

Approximately 20 percent of all children and adolescents are affected by nighttime bruxism. This unhealthy habitis mostly carried on into adult age and causes further disturbance of the masticatory system and CMD problems. Therefore bruxing should be eliminated at an early stage with BRUXI®.

BRUXI® a lower silicone splint is worn only at nighttime, prevents bruxing and protects tooth enamel at thesame time.

Noisy bruxing can occur soon after eruption of the primary molars at the age of two. Causes presumably are psy-chological reasons such as stress, anxiety, aggressiveness or an unfavourable occlusion that needs "grinding".Applied at an early stage possibly from the age of three BRUXI® can effectively stop bruxing within a few weeks.

Temporo-mandibular joint (TMJ) disorder is commonly misunderstood and often goes undiagnosed. It's an integralpart of myofunctional orthodontics because if there is poor oral function (or soft tissue dysfunction), TMJ disorderis almost always present too. Appliances in the TMJ System relax jaw and neck muscles, relieve pressure on theTMJ, limit bruxing (teeth grinding) and can reduce head and neck pain.

Temporo-mandibular joint

The exclusive material is apropriate for a long time therapy with splints or orthodontic appliances because of itsfeatures. The appliances are stabil, elastic and suitable.

The flat BRUXI® splint, similar to an impression tray, can be individually fitted

to the dentition. For that purpose an impression with a fast-curing silicone

DIRECT is either directly taken in the mouth or from the cast model. Pre-

viously the inside and rims of the BRUXI® splint have to be wetted with SIL-

COfix® and wiped with a soft cloth.

The curing process in the mouth takes approximately 90 seconds,

or on the cast model about three minutes. Before trimming wait

for five minutes, then remove excess material and the handle

from the splint.

Approximately 20 percent of the children and adolescents are affected by

nighttime bruxism. BRUXI® a silicone splint for the lower jaw protects

against enamel damage and provides undisturbed deep sleep. Applied at an

early stage possibly from the age of three BRUXI®

can effectively stop

bruxing in a few weeks. Also applicable for all other age groups. Custo-

mizable with a special silicone and adhesive directly in the mouth or on the

plaster model.

BRUXI®plus safeguard against bruxism

The TMJ Appliance works best to relax the cranio-mandibular muscles -

for extra-capsular relief. It treats symptoms by decompressing the joint

through its aerofoil shaped base and eliminating the effects of bruxing with

its double-mouthguard effect.

The TMD Appliance performs much the same as a TMJ, only it is spe-

cially designed for patients who require a daytime splint for the relief of

TMJ symptoms. It treats symptoms by decompressing the TM joints thro-

ugh its aerofoil shaped base. The customisable, low-profile design allows

for tight and comfortable fit for patients who need to maintain clear speech

during the daytime.

The Trainer SystemTM

Soft tissue dysfunction (habits including mouth breathing, incorrect tongue position and function and incorrectswallowing activity) restricts forward development of the jaws and face, leaving insufficient space for the teeth.Correcting these poor habits improves general health and allows children to develop properly and reach theirfull genetic potential.

The Trainer System are single size, prefabricated dental appliances that incorporate both myofunctional andtooth positioning characteristics. No impressions, no moulding and no fitting is required. Phase I (soft) applian-ces are more flexible in order to adapt to a wide range of malocclusions. Phase 2 (hard) appliances usuallyfollow after 5 to 8 months of Phase I use and achieve better tooth alignment.

For cleaning and desinfection use the special developed MYOCLEANTM-Tablets (Side 32).

The T4K is most effective in the early-mixed dentition while the perma-

nent anterior teeth are erupting. The myofunctional design characteristics

treat the causes of malocclusion. The tooth and jaw guidance design

features improve dental and jaw alignment. Arch development is also

achieved by positioning the tongue correctly in the maxilla.

T4KTM (mixed dentition)

T4BTM/T4B2TM (during a braces treatment)

The Infant Trainer is a single-size appliance that actively encourages

patients in the primary dentition to chew correctly and exercise jaw mus-

cles. Most importantly, the Infant Trainer encourages nose breathing,

and trains the patient to swallow and position the tongue correctly. Correct

facial, jaw and dental growth depends strongly on all of these factors.

The T4A is best suited to patients 12 to 15+ years of age in the early

stages of the permanent dentition. The T4A can be used as a myofun-

ctional retainer for patients that have recently had fixed orthodontics and

do not wish to have permanent bonded retainers fitted. It is also useful for

treating minor relapse cases without re-fitting full fixed orthodontics.

The T4B improves comfort and stability in fixed orthodontics. It prevents

soft tissue trauma from braces, retrains the oral musculature, and treats

TMJ disorder. The T4B2 is thicker and more robust than the T4B and

corrects more severe malocclusions (Class II) and tongue thrust habits.

The higher sides greatly improve retention and correct mouth breathing.

The Myobrace SystemTM

Over the last 20 years Myofunctional Research Co. (MRC) have developed orthodontic appliances toimprove the dental and facial development of children from 5-15 years of age, using moyfunctional ortho-dontic techniques instead of traditional orthodontics. This technique not only straightens teeth but alsotreats the causes of crooked teeth and incorrect jaw development.

The Myobrace treatment can lead to better facial development in growing children by correcting the posi-tion and function of the tongue, obtaining correct nose breathing and retraining the oral muscles to functioncorrectly.

Myobrace appliances effectively train the tongue to position correctly in the upper jaw, retrain oral muscu-lature and exert light forces to expand the jaws and align the teeth.

Goals of treatment:- correct nasal breathing- correct function of oral-facial musculature- correct arch form and tooth alignment

Intraoral snoring therapyIntraoral appliances are used to avoid snoring and to treat moderate sleep apnoea. For more than 15 years,Prof. Hinz together with the sleep medical-technical special department of Dr. Hinz laboratories has beendeveloping Intraoral Snoring Therapy (IST®) appliances, testing them in the sleep laboratory and permanen-tly improving them further. These experiences and skills are no secrets. All necessary materials are alsoavailable to other practice or commercial dental laboratories for their own processing. For patients withsleep related breathing disorder (SRBD) the anamnesis is different from our usual questions in regular dentaltherapy. Therefore we recommend using a special anamnesis form which will give you an initial clue oneither "harmless" snoring or suspicion of a serious disease like sleep apnoea.

The severity and treatment of a sleep related breathing disorder can only be assessed by a sleep doctor. Forsevere sleep apnoea a mechanical therapy with a positive pressure breathing appliance (NCPAP) will benecessary. "Harmless Snoring" and mild or moderate obstructive sleep apnoea (AHI up to 25/hour) can betreated with an Intraoral Snoring Therapy (IST®) appliance. Besides, IST® appliances are recommendedregardless of the severity, in case NCPAP therapy fails or is not accepted.

SleepStrip® sleep apnea sensor

Order-No. 98 300 SleepStrip®, single

SleepStrip® is a cost-saving single-use appliance for measuring apnoea

and hypnoea. It consists of signal measuring, recording, analysis and dis-

play. The patient's airflow is monitored by three mini sensors throughout

the night. The breathing pattern is analyzed by the CPU integrated. In the

following morning the total value based on the patient's AHI will be calcu-

lated and shown on the permanent display.

ISTclassic®

The improved ISTclassic®NEW appliance by Prof. Hinz is made in deep-

drawn forming. Connection between upper and lower jaw is achieved by

two parallel adjustable guiding rods so that the lower jaw is protruding. By

changing the anchorage elements of the molar area of the lower jaw and

the canine area of the upper jaw, the protrusion is secured permanently

even in an open mouth position. The appliance is especially suitable, if

only little bite opening is possible (elongated teeth or pronounced curve

IST® testing appliance, 1 piece, by Prof. Hinz, Cl. I (clear)

IST® testing appliance, 1 piece, by Prof. Hinz, Cl. II (blue)

IST® bite fork

The IST® testing appliance can give the indication for an individually ma-

nufactured IST® appliance, because not all patients will react with a thera-

peutic effect when protruding the mandible. The testing appliance is a

prefabricated standard appliance made of thermoplastic resin that will

adjust to the upper/lower dentition. It opens the bite and protrudes the

lower jaw approximately 6 mm. The testing appliance will be gradually ad-

justed after heating it in boiling water.

Available for Cl. I (clear) and Cl. II (blue) patients. The set can be equip-

ped at customer's option.

IST® bite fork is used for controlled protrusive positioning of the lower jaw

for manufacturing intraoral snoring therapy appliances. By means of the

IST® bite fork the maximum protrusion of the mandible is determined exac-

tly and the therapeutic protrusion is fixed. The inhibition of the dentition by

the bite fork determines the height of the lateral bite planes of the IST®

appliance.

IST® bite fork set, 3 pieces, by Prof. Hinz

IST® bite fork, 1 piece, by Prof. Hinz

The fixed nighttime protrusion of the mandible should reach about 50 % of

maximum protrusion capacity. Initially, the maximum protrusion of the man-

dible is measured by means of the IST® bite fork.

LAMItec® the new generation ofpressure moulding by Prof. Hinz

LAMItec® by Prof. Hinz is a special laminating procedure which chemically bonds two polycarbonate foilswith a soft intermediary layer and the LAMIbond adnesive agent. In the case of orthodontic appliances, mounts for protrusion splints or anchor and spring elements are laminated between two foils. Due to theexclusivity of the materials used in this procedure, the appliances fabricated in this manner are particularlywell-siuted for long-term treatment of myofunctional disorders and parafunctions (bruxism).

LAMItec® splints are delicate, yet patient-friendly, in themselfs elastic, stable in terms of form and color, as wellas shatter-proof.

Useful assistents

Jaw impressions usually called jaw models without really being models are the most impor-tant elements for diagnosing and documentation.

Jaw models are vital to prove correct treatment in case of relapse or second treatment in anotherdental office. They protect you against claims of damages or any other declaration of damage.

Shipping boxes ensure safe and fast transport of jaw models at usual package rate. The impact resis-tant plastic and foam inserts protect your appliances and models from damage. The storage trays are made of hard plastic and can be stacked. The color coding strips allow unambi-guous scheduling.

Model management

Shipping boxes and laboratory work storage trays

For mounting jaw models in an articulator you optimally need a face bow and a bite record. In minorprosthetic or orthodontic cases the dental technician often lacks them, hence the models are mountedaccording to table level. Here the mounting aid developed by Dr. Hinz Ortho-Lab can be deployed.

This cordless Power-LED-Lamp weighs just 165 grams. UV wavelength 430-485 nm, powerful1200mW/cm2, soft-start and preselecting times of 10 to 40 seconds technically leave no wishes open.Additionally to the known high lifespan of LED technology and Li-Ion power supply.

Our prophylaxis-Tissues offer optimal protection for eyes, hair and make-up during professional dentalcleaning, airflow treatment as well as power bleaching.

Order-No. 92 001-1 Study model base unit

Study model base units by Prof Hinz with their associated trays have been

used for more than 20 years. The easy-to-handle study model base unit

serves to hold three-dimensionally orientated jaw models. By adding the

base to the models with the study model base unit and trays a uniformed

height of the jaw models is ensured, and timeconsuming trimming is

eliminated.

Storing jaw models in trays allows good overview, makes it easier to keep

the models and protect them from unauthorized access. The trays can

store jaw models, appliances and periodontal models. Exchangeable la-

bels with four different color coding strips provide the required organi-

zational overview. The trays can be stacked and a handgrip allows remo-

ving them with a single hand. Up to five model pairs with bases can be

held in a tray.

The base trays by Prof Hinz firmly hold three-dimensional orientated jaw

models. They are adapted to the anatomic form of the maxilla and man-

dible. The base trays are available in two sizes, for impression of larger

adult jaws for periodontic and orthodontic applications as well as

impressions for children.

Elastic orthodontic appliances are active treatment apparatuses with a

greater range of indications than classic positioners. Given the correspon-

ding indication, they can be used as initial appliance without prior treat-

ment and independent of age. They only have to be worn for 2 hours

during the day and at night. Elastic orthodontic appliances involve about

the same amount of time and effort as positioners since set up and tech-

nical production of both appliances is very similar. The basic material of

the elastic orthodontic appliances is an A-silicone (addition cross-linked

with a platinum catalyst, Silasto®) vulcanizing a temperature of 225°C.

It is available in Shore hardnesses of 30, 50 or 70.

Elasto orthodontic appliances can be made in different colors.

Periodontal surgery is often associated with loss of gingival tissue. Such treat-

ment improves the periodontal condition, but is frequently associated with

poorer esthetics, phonetics and hypersensitivity of the exposed root surfaces.

By inserting a gingival epithesis made from silicone rubber these symp-

toms can be quickly improved.

The gingival epitheses is fabricated from the basic material Silasto®. The set

consists of: Silasto® 50 and 70, silicone creme, special insulation, epitheses

colors, mixing block and a spatula for processing.

Production of elastic orthodontic appliances will be alleviated by Silasto®
