New Opportunity for Catholic Education at St. Charles School in Hartland!

When your child was baptized, he/she was baptized into a community of faith. As our community of faith begins to work with St. Charles Parish (Message from the Pastor, March 29, 2009 bulletin), we invite you to consider St. Charles Catholic School, as your choice when deciding on the best educational option for your child. Offering K4 through 8th grade classes, St. Charles School provides your child an education you can have faith in. St. Charles remains true to the Catholic timeless tradition of value-based education while providing a loving and caring environment in which to learn. The educational philosophy is based upon care for the whole child – mind, body, and spirit. The staff offers your child a role model – Jesus – as a formational standard for how we live and interact with others. St. Charles School welcomes children to a world of discovery where learning, respect, faith and service intertwine. They embrace what you value most in this world: your child. You’ll find high academic standards, a commitment to excellence, a welcoming school community, and teachers who care about your child’s educational, moral, and spiritual development. For more information, please Rick Olejnik at St. Charles School: 262-510-6810.

Blessed Teresa of Calcutta Parish has a tuition subsidy program. Our parish will provide up to $500 per school year to St. Charles School when parents who belong to our parish enroll their children. The parents must contribute to our parish an amount at least equal to what we will provide the school. For more information, please contact Chuck Mazza at the Parish office: 262-966-2191.

YOU CAN HELP With the summer months fast approaching, the warmer weather often favors lighter and cooler tasting meals. We will be receiving fresh produce from our

parish’s “Feed the Hungry Garden” and would like to provide our clients with pantry items to complement. If you would like more information about the Community Garden or would like to help with the garden, please call Rita at (262) 719-2852. Requested summertime food pantry donations include:

Shell, elbow & corkscrew pasta Canned potatoes

Bottled ranch, Italian, vinaigrette dressings Pickle relish

Boxes of Suddenly Salad Miracle Whip

Dijon, spicy & brown mustards Vinegar

Chicken seasonings, marinades Mayonnaise

Corn taco shells Brown rice

Cans of salmon, chicken Flour tortillas

Taco seasoning Soy sauce

Vegetable oils Salsa

We are always in desperate need of paper items, including toilet paper, tissues, paper toweling, diapers (6

month and older) and cleaning products such as laun-dry and dishwashing soaps.

Thank you Lord for the summertime, and thank you for your donations.

St. Vincent de Paul

BLESSED TERESA OF CALCUTTA

From our Seminarian in Rome...

Dear Friends, “First Theology” has come and gone in a flash. Thank you for your prayers, as I have definitely felt the hand of God shaping my first year in Rome. Classwork went well; the transition into the European lecture style wasn’t too difficult. This January, during an in-house Mass, I was instituted as a Lector, and have been privileged to read at daily Mass a few times. I am now in training to be a Sacristan as well. I serve the larger Roman community with the St. Vincent de Paul organization, bringing food to the poor in the city on Friday nights. What’s coming next? In July, I will be studying Latin in a classical language program in Cork, Ireland. I am anticipating a visit in Ireland from my parents before I return to Rome in August. And the highlight of next school year will undoubtedly be a pilgrimage to the Holy land (Christmas 2009) which about twenty of us are preparing for. Have a great summer and God bless all of you at Blessed Teresa of Calcutta Parish! Brian Romportl ([email protected])

Greetings Blessed Teresa of Calcutta fellow parishioners,

I have been a member of Blessed Teresa since I went through the R.C.I.A program in 2000. Currently I am enrolled in the Aspirancy phase of the Diaconate program in the Milwaukee Archdiocese. Classes for this program began last September and are held on Thursday evenings and every other Saturday, concluding in July. Here is a brief synopsis of how the newly revised Diaconate program is set up: 1) The first year is Discernment, where both the aspiring

deacon candidates and their wives learn about the Diaconate program.

2) Once accepted by the Board of Admissions and the Archbishop, the second year of study is called Aspirancy. This is the phase I am in currently.

3) The third phase of the program begins after the “Aspirants” once again meet before the Board of Admissions (this July) and, hopefully, are accepted into full admission in the Diaconate program, which then consists of another three years of study.

As an Aspirant, my classes this year have included Catechism of the Catholic Church, Theological Reflection, Catholic Social Ministries, Spirituality, Servant Leadership, Faith Integration, and many other workshops. These studies have broadened my spirituality, bringing me to a deeper level of faith. In praying the Liturgy of the Hours, my prayer life, too, has grown immensely. My classes take place at the School Sisters of St. Francis/ St. Joseph Center in Milwaukee. I wish everyone could visit the beautiful St. Joseph Center Chapel where I am so fortunate to attend Mass during my Saturday classes. I thank God for the many blessings I have received thus far in this endeavor. I would also like to thank the parishioners of Blessed Teresa for their continued support and prayers as I continue my year of Aspirancy and especially to Father Tony for his leadership and guidance.

See you in church,

Allen Olson

A Message from our candidate to the Diaconate...

Explanation for Cemetery Rules In recent months, some parishioners have asked about the protocol of placing various mementos in our cemeteries to honor loved ones. Since we did not have a definitive set of rules, we established a Cemetery Board consisting of parishioners who have family members buried in our cemeteries and/or have purchased lots. The Board investigated the Archdiocesan rules for its cemeteries as well as the rules other parishes have adopted for their local cemeteries; not too surprising, there was remarkable uniformity of rules for all cemeteries. Using those as guidelines, our Cemetery Board developed the “Rules” set forth on the following page (page 3).

GENERAL RULES FOR

St. Clare and St. John CemeteriesGraves are intended for members of Blessed Teresa of Calcutta Parish, former parishioners, or next of kin of parishioners. The cemeteries are open to the public every day from dawn to dusk. Vehicles are to remain on the cemeteries’ roadways. Pets are to be kept on a leash and not allowed to run free; clean up after one’s pets is essential. No alcohol is permitted. Use of the cemeteries shall at all times be subject to the provisions of Catholic Church law and the Milwaukee Archdiocese regulations.

LOTS Currently, the cost of a cemetery lot is $500. Payment is due at the time the lot is chosen. Checks should be made out to the appropriate cemetery; receipts will be issued. No transfer of lots is permitted. All lots which will not be used as per the purchase agreement must be sold back to the Cemetery at the original purchase price. Burial lots may be purchased at Blessed Teresa of Calcutta Parish. All records for both cemeteries are kept in the Parish Office. Cemetery records are not open to the public.

INTERMENTS Typical Burial At time of death, the funeral home or the family must contact the Parish Office to inform us of the burial arrangements. The Parish Staff will call the person who opens the grave and have it appropriately marked for digging. The person who digs the grave will dispose of half the dirt from the grave; leave half the dirt adjacent to the gravesite; and use the latter to fill in the grave after the Vault Company has set the vault. Currently, the charge to open a grave is $500, and the check made payable to the person doing the work after completion of the work. There is an additional $100 charge if the work needs to be performed after 5:00 PM or on a Sunday or holiday. Only one full-size burial is allowed in each lot. Cremation The interment of cremated remains is permitted only in accordance with the provisions of Catholic Church law and Milwaukee Archdiocese regulations. Cremated remains will not be placed inside a casket or scattered on top of the ground. Cremated remains will be placed in an approved vault. Two cremated remains per full size grave are permitted. Cremated remains of one person may be buried on top of an existing grave. Currently, the charge to open a grave for a cremation is $200, and the check made payable to the person doing the work after completion of the work. There is an additional $50 charge if the work needs to be performed after 5 pm or on a Sunday or holiday. If this is an urn vault burial, the size of the box for the urn is needed and there is an additional $50 charge due to the added size of the vault.

MONUMENTS Monuments may not be taller than 3’ in height. The monument’s foundation must be flush with the ground and 4” larger than the monument. Names of the deceased that are engraved on the monuments should face the adjoining roadway.

DECORATIONS All decorations placed at grave sites are subject to the following requirements. In general, any decoration deemed by Cemetery management to be in violation of its regulations, or not in good taste, will be removed and discarded without notice to the lot holder. Also, decorations that have deteriorated or are unsightly will be removed an disposed of by Cemetery management without notice to the lot holder.

Decorations are only permitted if they are securely fastened to the monument and/or base, do not protrude beyond the base, and are of a material which will not result in a safety hazard. Lot holders are requested to use non-breakable vases or pots placed on or directly in front of the memorial, or the reversible vases that are part of some memorials. Do not fill pots or vases with stones or sand, or sink them into the ground in order to hold them upright. No wire, glass jars or containers, tin cans, ceramic or clay pots, aluminum foil or other dangerous or unsightly material are to be used to hold decorations. Similarly, styrofoam boxes, tubs, glass, shells, ornaments, chairs, benches, wire, plastic border edging, coping, fencing, brick, bark, rocks, gravel, wood, stuffed/artificial animals, pictures/frames, toys, figurines, etc., are not permitted around the base or in the lawn. Flowers Annual/Perennial flower plantings are allowed, but must conform to the following:

Rose bushes, peonies, irises, day lilies, gladiolas, creeping flowers, vines, and other plants which require exceptional care should not be planted

Only low growing plants/flowers planted in front of the memorial are acceptable, and should not exceed 18” in height. The planting bed should not exceed the width of the memorial or extend more than 12” away from it

Flower beds must be maintained or they will be removed

Potted plants, hanging baskets, shepherds’ hooks, and standing

planters are not permitted.

Artificial plants or flowers are not allowed unless they are placed in a proper bouquet holder such as a vase and are securely fastened in place. Observance of Special Occasions Easel decorations are allowed for only two special occasions:

Memorial Day. (These decorations will be allowed for seven calendar days before and after the holiday; fourteen days total.)

Christmas Day. (These decorations may be placed on the grave sites after Thanksgiving Day, and must be removed by Palm Sunday.)

Only Cemetery management-approved Veterans’ flag holders (which are provided by the VFW) are allowed to display the American flag.

MAINTENANCE During the Spring and Fall of each year, Cemetery management sets aside one week in which all summer and winter decorations are removed from lots and graves. This week is determined by weather conditions, but will generally occur in late March or early April --- and again in late October or early November.

During this time, all artificial flowers will be removed. Cemetery management will be responsible for restoring the lawn on new graves, for filling sunken graves, and for re-establishing the lawn. All lawn will be restored with top soil, seed, and mulch either in the Spring or Fall.

LOSS OR DAMAGE Cemetery management will exercise due care in its responsibilities, but in no event will it assume liability for the following:

Theft or damage to anything placed on graves or lots

Defects in burial vaults, concrete cases & lids

Damage to any casket, vault, or memorial incurred in making a disinterment and/or removal.

CONTACTS At the request of the Pastor, a Cemetery Board has been appointed to oversee the management and operation of the cemeteries. VISION 21: CHANGE AMIDST THE

CHURCH’S NEVER-CHANGING MISSION

On March 5, 2009, at a meeting of pastors and parish council representatives from parishes in this part of the Archdiocese, Dr. Mark Kemmeter presented Archbishop Dolan’s response to implementing Vision: 21

st Century

Planning. This long term vision will help us articulate a plan for the Church in the Archdiocese of Milwaukee and chart our course for the future. Before Archbishop Dolan left for the Archdiocese of New York, he identified the following “non-negotiable priorities” for us to embrace as VISION 21 is implemented in the Archdiocese of Milwaukee:

Planning is neither new to the Church nor in the Archdiocese, since 1843. Greater urgency to plan in the last 25 years. “Living Our Faith in the Twenty-First Century: Vision 21 is masterful, well done. Vision 21 will guide our next planning efforts. Archbishop accepts recommendations, including those

for each district. Sacraments must be available. Vocations must be promoted. Lay leadership must expand. Priests must be free to use their time to pastor. Different forms of pastoral leadership should be

explored and utilized. Priest assignments will be to an area or region

rather than to one single parish. The faithful have to be open to future cooperation

with neighboring parishes. Primary that Church is vibrant and effective – build-

ings and locations are secondary. Church’s mission of teaching is more urgent than ever. Different styles of governance for Catholic grade

schools have to be explored. The “Living Our Faith” initiative must be continued. The blessings of diverse cultures should be celebrated

– leaders should know Spanish. People in need, the marginalized, the forgotten must be

cared for.

From these priorities, it is clear that change in our Archdio-cese and our parish is inevitable. In 10 years, 100 priests rather than the approximately 220 current priests will be serving the needs of the Archdiocese including 211 par-ishes. However, the concluding words of the Gospel ac-cording to Matthew present the Church's never-changing mission and call to evangelization:

"All power in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, teach-ing them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I

am with you always, until the end of the age." (Mt. 28:18-20)

Indeed, every generation of disciples has faced the Lord's challenge within the context of its day and age. We are no different from the disciples of the past.

Vision for Our Future

Loaves and Fishes Dinner Sunday, July 12th is Blessed Teresa of Calcutta’s turn to supply the Loaves and Fishes dinner in Waukesha. We hope to provide a meal of baked chicken. If you are able to help us, please email Shaun Pavlic at [email protected] or call the parish office at 966-2191. We would like at least two chickens, in pieces, or a dessert that can be shared. We can always use a helping hand or two to serve the meal, or financial donations to assist in paying for the side dishes and other expenses. Your baked donations should be dropped off on Sunday, July 12, by 11:00 am in the lower level of the North Lake Church. Thank you for feeding the needy of Waukesha County.

Choir News Consider joining the Summer Choir! Rehearsals are Sundays at 10:10 am. Weekly Thursday rehearsals will resume in September.
