From the Religious Education Coordinator
Holy Week: Well, Holy Week is finally here! This is the most important week in the Catholic Church’s year.
We all look forward to Christmas and all the celebration it brings, but Easter is far more important than
Christmas. And it’s a lot more than the chocolate eggs on Easter Sunday! During this week the Parish will
have many opportunities to participate in Holy Week and Easter Liturgies, including the “Mass of the Lord’s
Supper” on the evening of Holy Thursday, the “Way of the Cross” on Good Friday morning, and the “Passion
of the Lord” at 3.00pm on Good Friday. I would encourage your family to try to get to one or more of the
ceremonies during this week, as preparation for the great joy of Easter Sunday.
Project Compassion: Thank you so much to those who have already sent in their Project Compassion boxes.
Could I ask that these be returned before the end of this term, so that we are able to forward on the money to
Caritas Australia to continue their vital work with those who so need their assistance. Our school community
has always been very generous towards Project Compassion and I thank you in anticipation once again for
your continued support.
Holy Week Celebrations: Tomorrow, Thursday, 29th March, we will begin our Easter celebrations, with our Stations of the Cross in the classrooms. This will be a special presentation, featuring work from all grades in the form of an interactive powerpoint. You are very welcome to share this celebration with us by joining your children in their classrooms at this time. We will then celebrate the Risen Christ on Easter Tuesday at 9.30am in St Joseph’s Church, followed by a morning of fun with the making of Easter hats in the classrooms, shared Recess then the “Hat Parade” after Recess. It would be lovely to have you join us for all or part of our celebrations of the story of Jesus’ journey to Resurrection.
Easter Timetable: A full timetable of Easter Celebrations in our Parish was
sent home at the end of last week. Further details are available through the
Parish Website
http://www.bathurst.catholic.org.au/?i=4451&st-mary-and-st-joseph-orange
God who created us, suffers because of us
God who died upon the Cross, suffers for us
God who dwells within us, suffers with us
And in God’s suffering we find hope.
Your story of life, death and resurrection, gives life meaning
Redeemer, Saviour, Advocate
Through the journey of suffering, In the place of darkness
You overcame death forever,
And gave us new life
Mothers’ Day: This year we will once again have our Mothers’ Day Liturgy, but this year it will be a little
different. Each grade has been asked to take on the preparation of a special Mass or Liturgy, and the Mothers’ Day
Liturgy will be prepared and run by our beautiful Kinder students and teachers. As usual, we will have our special
power-point of photos of mothers and their children, so could I ask that you start to send in these photos soon so I
can start this task. You can email them to me on [email protected] or send them in on a thumb drive or
hard copy. I will get thumb drives and hard copies back to you the day after they come in. This is usually a
highlight of the Liturgy, so could I encourage you to start sending these in soon.
Wishing you a very happy and Holy Easter,
Robyn Petty
