The Charity of God
The Charity of God would not avail us, if His Mercy did not come to our assistance.
Catherine McAuley 1778-1841
I have been on leave during the first two weeks of this term and have
been made well aware that our school is now a fully blown building site.
I'm sure many students and teachers will be hearing jack hammers and
trucks in their dreams. We all look forward to when the major activities
revolve around passive and quieter jobs like painting and laying carpet. I
did realise that the building had started in the holidays when I saw a
bobcat being driven up the stairs of the front building.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of staff member Mr Gerry
Gough whose sister Christine (Britton) passed away last week. The
funeral was held yesterday and Father Hennessey reminded all of us that
it is who we are not what we do that counts. Christine was a totally
unselfish person who kept a wonderful spirit despite a long and difficult
struggle with diabetes. Gerry maintains she was always going to hang on
until his beloved Rabbitohs collected the premiership.

Mission Week: What a Mission Week we had last week! The children had a wonderful day on Thursday
with the “Fun Day” activities, and I think the Kinder children were totally fascinated by their first
experience of these great activities. I just loved how everyone got into the spirit of things on Friday with
their crazy socks, hats and sunglasses! It was such a great week, and even more importantly, the money
we raised for Catholic Missions was just wonderful. Thank you so much for your fantastic support, and
your wonderful generosity. I am always amazed at how giving our school community is.
October, the Month of the Rosary: Throughout October, the Church asks us to take time to think about
our Blessed Mother, Mary, and join together in praying her special prayer, the Rosary. If anyone would
like to take home a little statue of Mary with some Rosary Beads to pray the Rosary together as a family,
we have two sets that can be sent home for short periods. If you would like to take one of these sets home,
please either contact me, or let your child’s teacher know, and I will organise a time for your family to
borrow one set. The Parish also has an opportunity for Parishoners to have Mary’s Statue visit for the
purpose of having the Rosary in their home.
First Reconciliation Thanksgiving Mass: Next Wednesday 29th October we celebrate our Year 2
children’s reception of their First Reconciliation with a Mass commencing at 10.00am. There will be a
little party for those who made their First Reconciliation in Kenna Hall after Mass, and parents are invited
to join us for the ‘cutting of the cake’.
Wishing you a wonderful week, God Bless,
Robyn Petty

WRITING AT CATHERINE MCAULEY
“Writing is an essential skill which can benefit students for the rest of their lives. Introducing and
practicing writing with engaging activities can foster confidence and a lifelong love of writing. Writing
skills are important for elementary students' communication and self-expression. In addition to improving
penmanship, writing exercises at school support development of critical thinking and problem-solving
skills. Students also learn the writing process, from outline to finished product, which translates into other
aspects of life and learning. Through journals and personal story writing, children can discover their
identities and work through real-life problems. Writing helps children connect to the world around them,
both on and off the page”. Board of Studies
This week the Catherine McAuley Community have the pleasure to acknowledge one of our GREAT
WRITERS.
Last term there was an annual writing competition for NSW students in Years 1-6. It is called the WriteOn
competition. WriteOn is designed to encourage young students to develop their writing skills in an
engaging way. It also provides students the opportunity to become published authors.

I had many entries submitted to me for the
competition in which I was only allowed to
select one. Maeve Kennedy from 5C was
selected and her entry was placed with the
WriteOn Committee.
Maeve’s Entry has won a BRONZE
AWARD in the competition for Stage 3
which is an OUTSTANDING achievement.
The Catherine McAuley community is proud
to say that writing is taught in a strong way in
all our classrooms.
WELL DONE MAEVE on your great
achievement we look forward to reading
many more of your works.

What a marvellous day was had at the Milo T20 Blast School Cricket Competition at Jack Brabham
Park yesterday, Tuesday 21st October. Mrs Aumuller, Mrs Tavares and Mr Jennings were delighted to
take 65 Year 3 and 4 students to try their hand at a round-robin style cricket competition. We entered
three Year 4 boys’ teams, one Year 4 girls’ team, two Year 3 boys’ teams and one Year 3 girls team. Each
team played four games throughout the day versing teams from St Mary’s, Orange Anglican, Orange
Christian School, Millthorpe and Orange East Public School. To add to the excitement of the day, music
was blaring out from the speakers, encouraging all to get in the groove too. The students came back to
school with a packet of Milo, stickers, certificate and poster and a better understanding of how cricket is
played. The behaviour of the students was exemplary and the teachers found the whole event very well
organised and a pleasure to be part of. Here are a few comments from some of the students:
Jessie: “I thought I improved throughout the day.”
Caitlin: “I felt encouraged by the teachers and the team.”
Cruz: “I loved being outside doing what I like instead of being in the classroom concentrating.”
Bella: “I enjoyed spending a day outside in the beautiful weather.”
Chelsea: “I enjoyed learning new cricket skills and had a great time.”
Nydier: “I think it’s nice meeting other school kids and playing a new sport.”
Archie: “I liked being with my friends playing cricket. I had a great day.”
Arkie: “It’s nice to see a blue sky instead of the roof of the classroom.”
Jonty: “I thought it was a great new learning experience.”
