CATHERINE NELSONCatherine Nelson is a landscape photographer who utilizes a highly technical genre to generate emotionally charged images. Following studies in painting, Nelson moved into the film industry creating visual effects for productions such as Moulin Rouge! and Australia. Exposure to cutting-edge digital techniques informs Nelson’s work but it is primarily with a painters’ eye that her hyper-real yet fantastical landscapes are constructed from hundreds of digital images.

“Other Worlds is a collection of new, imagined and personal landscapes that contain a tension between realism and illusion and the drama of suspended time and place.” Nelson 2013

Catherine Nelson fotografiert Landschaften und entwickelt daraus mittels Spitzentechnologie ergreifende Bilder. Sie studierte Malerei, wechselte danach in die Filmindustrie, wo sie visuelle Effekte für Filmproduktionen wie Moulin Rouge! und Australia erzeugte. Nelsons Arbeiten veranschaulichen den Umgang mit neuster Digitaltechnik, zeigen aber vordergründig, dass ihre hyperrealistischen dennoch fantastischen Landschaften mit dem Blick eines Malers aus hunderten von digitalen Bildern zusammengesetzt sind.
