HOSANNA! “Hosanna to the Son of David; blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord; hosanna in the highest” (Matthew 21:9). With these words the Church enters the holiest of weeks, commemorating the passion, death, and resurrection of Christ. When the people of Jerusalem cried out with their “hosannas,” they were using an ancient Hebrew shout of acclamation that meant “Pray, save us.” The king to

whom they were shouting eventually would save them, but in a way that would be far from what they expected. Salvation would come from the wood of the cross as Jesus hung there to bring freedom from sin and life through death, opening the gates of heaven for all who put their faith and trust in him.

PRAYER OF SPIRITUAL COMMUNION:

My Jesus, I believe that you are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen.

MISSING MASS? A Message from Cassy Vernau, Director of Religious Educa on

To Our Faith Forma on Parents (Messsage Originally Sent to Parents Electronically. Just type in address in your computer’s browser

to reach the various sites)

SInce the churches around us have closed or canceled public Masses and we are spending more time at home I wanted to share a few online options with you so that you can still watch Mass and worship as a family. Here are a few options for you:

+ Would you like to read the Mass readings for the weekday or Sunday? You can read these out loud before watching Mass. Take turns doing the reading aloud. http://www.usccb.org/bible/readings/031820.cfm

+ You can watch Mass on EWTN’s live feed here. It looks like they have Mass at 8 am EST, 12 pm EST and 7pm EST on Sun-days. Daily Mass throughout the week is on there and a variety of other programs including the daily rosary and Divine Mercy Chaplet. Here’s their schedule. https://www.ewtn.com/tv/schedule

Join Bishop Robert Barron, founder of Word on Fire Cathol ic Ministr ies and Auxi l iary Bishop of the Arch-diocese of Los Angeles or Word on Fire CEO Fr. Steve Grunow, ht tps: / /www.wordonf i re.org/dai ly-mass.

+ SInce we cannot receive Holy Communion at this time, you can make an act of Spiritual Communion by saying a prayer like this one: “My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen.”

Do not miss these opportunities to worship our God! Have everyone put away phones, toys, games etc. and focus on Jesus and the Grace He desires to give us! We are all so busy, but that is why THIS is a great time to find the quiet as a family, to pray and to be faithful to the One who died for us.

With your children you can go to Formed.org. We have a subscription that our parish has already paid for. You can sign up for free and they will ask for your parish zip code: 29036 and our parish name. There are all kinds of great programs for children and families!

Here is one great example to let your children watch with you: This is a great explanation of the Mass by a priest (very short) https://watch.formed.org/presence/season:1/videos/para-ninos-the-miracle-at-every-mass

This one has songs and is very helpful to our younger students: https://watch.formed.org/the-eucharist-for-little-children/videos/the-eucharist-for-little-children

There are many others for children! Just use the drop down menu to find options for children. Teen programming is under Youth. There are movies too. You can download this to your phone and listen to audio recordings and even recorded books for all ages!

You can use Formed.org to watch a good Catholic video as a family! Choose to make Sunday Night or one night a week, a night to watch something good. Everyone will benefit! Make a special treat to share. Make it special. Focus on the blessings, peace and the Love our Heavenly Father has given to us. Now more than ever, our children and our families need the presence of God in the home and in their lives.

I am praying with you and for you, as we navigate these uncharted waters together! Let us be Church, even in our own homes! God will bless our efforts in our Domestic Churches and give us His Peace!

A Challenge to OLL Parishioners from the Knights of Columbus Council

If every registered family (well over 800 families at Our Lady of the Lake) gives 40 cans during this Lenten Season, Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church would collect over 21,000 pounds of food for

We Care.

This is a small Lenten sacrifice for the good of our community and the poor and needy of our area. Thank you for your Grace of Charity for this Lenten sacrifice for the needy and poor of our local community. NOTE: Although, there are no Masses with the congregation present, the church will be open from 7am until 7pm for personal prayer. Please use the side entrance ONLY closest to the Parish Office and continue to drop off your 40 CANS FOR LENT when you are there. Many thanks!

Parishioners are asked (PLEASE!) to sign up for Online Giving as our parish relies on the weekly offertory to cover our operating expenses. Envelopes with a check can also be mailed to the parish office: 195 Amicks Ferry Road, Chapin, SC 29036 (Please note the change in address from our former PO BOX to our street address!)

March 16, 2020-March 22, 2020

Father Dennis will be saying a PRIVATE Daily Mass (without a congregation) Tuesday through Saturday at 12 Noon. Sunday Mass will be celebrated as a Vigil at 5 pm on Saturday and on Sunday at 9 am, Mass intentions

will be honored except for those Sunday Masses that are not being held (10:30 am and 5 pm). These Mass intentions will be rescheduled to the earliest available Mass. During this time you will be spiritually united to Father Dennis at every Mass in his thoughts and prayers and in your Guardian Angels.

The Mass at 12 noon on Saturday was offered in loving memory of Julia Kralik at the request of the Larry & Marie Gilbertson. (Rescheduled from Sunday Mass, April 5th at 8:00 am) The Vigil Mass on Saturday is offered in loving memory of Liz Drexelius, at the request of the Drexelius Family. The Mass at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday, April 5th is offered as a Missa Pro Populo (Mass for the People). The Mass for the repose of the soul of Joseph Grzybowski at the request of Helen Mowery is rescheduled to Thursday, April 16th at 12 noon and the Mass for the repose of the soul of Patricia Ryan Smith at the request of Kitty Kelly is rescheduled to Friday, April 17th at 12 noon.

Today is Palm Sunday, and as Catholics, we cherish the death and resurrection of our Lord, Jesus Christ. We are approaching the end of Lent, and let us remind ourselves of simple actions we can take in the spirit of being better Christians.

Fast from hur ng words, and use kind words. Fast from sadness, and be filled with gra tude.

Fast from anger, and be filled with pa ence. Fast from pessimism, and be filled with hope.

Fast from worries, and have trust in God. Fast from complaints, and contemplate simplicity.

Fast from pressures, and take me for prayer. Fast from bi erness, and be filled with joy.

Fast from selfishness, and be compassionate to others. Fast from grudges, and be reconciled.

Fast from words, and be silent so you can listen.

Our heartfelt sympathy goes to Torok & Burke Families on the passing of George Torok; and to Janet Cox on the passing of her husband, Jim Cox in Matthews, NC. Jim & Janet were long-time parishioners of Our Lady of the

Lake before moving to North Carolina to a retirement community. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and their loved ones.

Christ’s Love for Us

Images of marriage, bride, bridegroom, and wedding feasts abound through the Old and New Testaments. In this CD, Dr. Brant Pitre carefully unpacks these metaphors for us, showing how they illuminate the nature of the covenant that God forges with us, His beloved. In this stunning talk, Dr. Pitre

applies his knowledge of the Jewish roots of Christianity to the very heart of the Gospel: the love of Christ. You will learn what it really means to have a “personal relationship” with Jesus Christ as Lord, Savior, and Bridegroom. Those interested in further examination of these concepts can contact the St Francis Catholic Shop (803-561- 9733) to order Pitre’s book known by the same title.

We Care serves as a hub of community outreach, especially in times of crisis. Despite many closures, we are open and ready to serve! We have adapted our service model to serve by drive thru only to best ensure safety for both clients and our volunteer staff. Since implementing the drive-thru just a week ago, we have served well over 300 people! These clients are those most desperate for our help, who would not have enough to eat, whose lights may be turned off, without us. It is more important than ever that we stay open to serve those most in need. In the coming weeks and months, we anticipate that client volume will continually increase as layoffs and financial strain worsen. We are committed to meeting those expanding needs, even as we face the inevitability of reduced donations, particularly with churches unable to meet. We know that families and businesses are under tremendous pressure; in fact our understanding of that weight is a deeply important reason for cancelling the golf tournament. We also know that we are extraordinarily blessed by a very giving community and therefore request that if you are looking for a way to help in the crisis that you remember We Care and the vital work we are continuing to do. Donations are most thankfully received through our website www.chapinwecare.org or can be mailed to We Care at PO Box 491, Chapin SC 29036.

NOTE: Although, there are no Masses with the congregation present, the church will be open from 7am until 7pm for personal prayer. Please use the side entrance ONLY closest to the Parish Office and continue to drop off your non-perishable donations for the We Care Food Pantry in the pull-out bin in Vollkommer Bell Tower when you are there. Many thanks!

O Mary, you always shine on our path

as a sign of salvation and of hope. We entrust ourselves to you, Health of the Sick,

who at the cross took part in Jesus' pain, keeping your faith firm. You, Salvation of the Roman People,

know what we need, and we are sure you will provide

so that, as in Cana of Galilee, we may return to joy and to feasting

after this time of trial. Help us, Mother of Divine Love,

to conform to the will of the Father and to do as we are told by Jesus,

who has taken upon himself our sufferings and carried our sorrows

to lead us, through the cross, to the joy of the resurrection. Amen.

Under your protection, we seek refuge, Holy Mother of God. Do not disdain the entreaties of we who are in trial, but deliver us

from every danger, O glorious and blessed Virgin.
