Holy Communion Communion By Appointment | Monday-Friday, 4:30-5:30pm While Catholics have no obligation to receive Holy Communion while the pandemic persists, there is a great hunger for the Eucharist in our parish, and rightfully so. And so we are now offering private appointments through the Month of May for registered parishioners to receive Holy Communion, along with those currently living at their same address. Visit https://nativity-mn.org/communion for more information, and to find the link to the sign-up form. You can also call the parish office at (651) 696-5401 to request a timeslot, one per household. If you are not yet registered as a parishioner, you can do so by contacting the parish office. Finally, if you are unable to leave your home or cannot come to the rectory, let us know, and we’ll figure out an alternative.

From The Hip David Hottinger Diaconal Ordination| Sat., May 23, 10am Dear Brothers and Sisters, Please join me, on behalf of Fr. Nick Hagen, the parish staff and lay leadership, and the entire Nativity of Our Lord parish community, in congratulating Brother David Hottinger, P.E.S. (pictured at right) on his ordination to the transitional diaconate next Saturday, May 23. Brother David, the 2nd of George and Molly Hottinger’s six children, is a beloved son of Nativity and we are so very proud of him as he answers Our Lord’s call to serve him at the altar in this way. Br. David joined the religious community of Pro Ecclesia Sancta at the Church of St. Mark in 2012. (He’s pictured on the front cover there along with his classmate, Br. Joseph Barron, at a recent ceremonial blessing.) God willing, he’ll be ordained a priest for the order next May, 2021. You can learn more about him at https://nativity-mn.org/news/nativity-seminarian-david-hottinger. You’re invited to tune in to a live broadcast of the ordination Mass at 10am next Saturday on Metro Cable Channel 6 (also replayed the following Sunday at 1pm), on St. Michael Broadcasting’s channel 14.4, or live-streamed online at www.archspm.org/ordination-transitional-diaconate/. May God bless, you, Brother David, and your vocation to serve God’s people. And may God bless your week. Fr. Patrick Hipwell, Pastor

Liturgy Preparing for Phase II - A Return to Public Mass As Archbishop Hebda said in his most recent pastoral letter (available at https://nativity-mn.org/news/coronavirus), before the day comes that the Archdiocese resumes limited public Masses, it is important to begin preparing now for this “Phase II.” Our first consideration must continue to be for the spiritual and physical health of our parishioners and those whom they encounter, especially the most vulnerable: the elderly and those with chronic illnesses. We continue to rely on medical professionals and governmental standards to inform these directives. The obligation to attend Sunday Mass and Holy Days of Obligation will continue to be suspended as long as the pandemic continues -- in other words, indefinitely. Nativity of Our Lord will continue to live-stream liturgies for the benefit of the homebound and those otherwise vulnerable and unable to attend in person. All COVID-19 positive persons, those who are symptomatic, and those living with them, must continue to stay home. Persons over age 65 and those with preexisting health conditions should continue to stay home during Phase II and avoid public gatherings, including in church. As public Masses resume at Nativity, the Archdiocese will limit attendance to no greater than 30% of our church’s capacity for low-risk congregants, and likely even less. In the spirit of fairness, as well as to help ensure orderly and safe attendance, Mass-goers will likely be required to register ahead of time and show proof of registration to receive admittance to Mass. Face coverings will be strongly recommended, if not required. Choirs and congregational singing will be temporarily discontinued Archdiocese-wide, since singing expels many more respiratory particles than speaking does. Extra time will be required between liturgies in order to allow for safe (slow) exiting as well as cleaning and disinfecting, and liturgical schedules will need to accommodate this extra time. Thank you in advance for your patience and consideration as our parish leadership navigates these restrictions and guidelines. It is our intent to provide the opportunity to worship Our Lord in our church as soon as we are able, for as many of our parishioners as possible, in the safest and healthiest environment. As we learn more about when Phase II will officially begin and when we will resume public liturgies, we will compile pertinent, up-to-date information at https://nativity-mn.org/phase2, including liturgy registration information. Please also subscribe to our weekly email newsletter if you haven’t yet — call the parish office or see the link on the back page. In the meantime, let us continue to pray for the bishops and each other as we cooperate with our civil leaders to do what is best for the health and safety of everyone in the state.

Adoration Adoration in the Main Church Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament has been moved to the main church to allow social distancing of at least six feet, and must be limited to a maximum of ten people at a time. Please stagger your visits to avoid busy times. Because the main church needs to be locked overnight, the hours of Adoration are restricted to 9am-10pm Sunday-Friday and 9am-4pm on Saturdays until further notice. Please note that our organist, Patrick Henning, often practices during the hours of 12-3pm on Fridays. During social distancing, all scheduled adorers should treat their assigned hour as completely optional. Above all, please do not come if you feel ill in any way, or if you are particularly at risk for the coronavirus. Contact Jim at (763) 746-8244 or [email protected] for more information.

Mass from Home Video Mass How-To Watching a video stream of Mass is new to most of us. Fr. Nick has some ideas on how to make the best out of an imperfect situation. Visit https://nativity-mn.org/online-liturgies to watch a video from him, as well as to find our upcoming live-streamed Masses and those already recorded. Live-streamed and archived Masses are also available on both our parish website homepage (https://nativity-mn.org/) as well as on our Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/NativityStPaul/). Other Broadcasts Mass is also on Relevant Radio, 1330 AM on Sundays at 9am, with Daily Mass at 12pm. Sunday Mass is on local TV at 11am on KSTC-TV/45. Finally, EWTN (Comcast cable ch. 291) has daily Mass at 7am, 11am, 6pm, and 11pm, and is rebroadcast on channels 14.2, 14.4, and 14.5. Spiritual Communion Whenever anyone is unable to receive Holy Communion — for any number of reasons — we can make a “Spiritual Communion” by praying that Our Lord would come to us when we cannot receive him substantially. We pray this one during our online Masses:

Jesus, I believe you are truly present in the Most Holy Eucharist. I wish, my Lord, to receive you with the purity, humility, and devotion with which your most holy Mother received you, with the spirit and the fervor of the saints. Since I cannot now receive you sacramentally, please come spiritually into my heart. I embrace you as being already there. Amen!

Teens Biggest Youth Night Ever | Sundays at 6:50pm This past Sunday night, our teens joined over 10,000 (!) other young people from across the country for an online youth night. We played games together, joined in worship together, learned from a brilliant Catholic speaker, and prayed together. This Sunday, we’re doing it again: new speaker, new worship leader, same time. Like last week, the broadcast starts at 7pm, but we plan to log in at 6:50pm to make sure we’re ready when it starts. And parents, if you’re not busy, you are invited to watch along with us — it’s worth it! Visit https://nativity-mn.org/youthministry for more information, including directions to join a video group chat with other Nativity of Our Lord teens. Or just contact Katie Schaitberger at [email protected] for the Zoom link. See you Sunday night!

Men’s Club Survey The Men’s Club would like to invite and encourage all adult men of Nativity of Our Lord to become more involved in the Men's Club, and has developed a survey to try to better understand awareness of the Men's Club and how to be even more welcoming. All men of the parish are encouraged to complete this survey, which can be found at http://tiny.cc/NMCsurvey. Raffle Social distancing delayed, but could not stop, the annual Men’s Club Raffle! For your chance to win one of 18 cash prizes, please return your tickets that were mailed in early May as soon as possible, but no later than May 28. Return tickets to the parish office. The drawing will be held on May 31. Visit https://nativitymen.org/raffle for more information or to order more tickets. This is an important Men's Club fundraiser supporting the Nativity School scholarship fund, which will have great need for the upcoming new school year. Pro Liberis!

New Life Pentecost Novena | Friday, May 22 - Saturday, May 30 Please join other Nativity of Our Lord parishioners for a Pentecost Novena via Zoom. The Novena will begin at 8pm this Friday, May 22 through Friday, May 29 and conclude at 6pm on Saturday, May 30. Please contact Katie Schaitberger at [email protected] or (612) 367-7877 to receive the Zoom credentials. The Novena is sponsored by Nativity Faith Formation and Nativity New Life, a group of Nativity parishioners who desire to live Christian life more intentionally within the parish by integrating spiritual growth, fellowship, and outreach.

Online Giving Stewardship from Home Like many individuals, families, and organizations, this time has put a particular strain on our finances. We have had to make some tough decisions as we re-budget to best use our newly limited resources. And while we have made progress, we still have work to do to sustainably operate without a live Sunday collection. We know that many of you are similarly hurting or are otherwise financially vulnerable. However, for those of you who are able, please maintain or resume your usual giving, either by submitting it directly to the parish office or through our website at https://nativity-mn.org/online-giving. And, for those who have the means, please consider making a special emergency gift at this time. Please contact Joyce at the Parish Office at (651) 696-5436 if we can be of further assistance.
