Mobile Blessing

Eucharistic Emmaus Blessing - Sunday, April 26, 12pm This Third Sunday of Easter, we contemplate the Gospel of the Road to Emmaus, when Jesus walked with his disciples after his resurrection, finally revealing himself in “the breaking of the bread.” Fr. Patrick and Fr. Nick will walk through our neighborhood with the Blessed Sacrament — Jesus himself again visible to us in simple bread — giving us his benediction in this hour of need. We invite our neighbors to join us on their front porches as the priests pass by, and we invite those who do not live in the neighborhood to park their cars along the streets (while remaining in them). Occasional prayers or songs will be broadcast via 89.5 FM along the way. We will walk beginning at noon along Stanford Ave. from Prior Ave. to Cleveland Ave., then Wellesley Ave. to Fairview Ave., then Jefferson Ave. to Cleveland again, then Juliet Ave. to Prior again and back to the church. (See the graphic below for the route.) In the interest of health and safety, please do not leave your cars or approach the sidewalk, do not follow the priests, and do not otherwise congregate in any way. We hope you can join us!

Pastoral Care

End-of-Life Directives With the outbreak of COVID-19, the possibility of future medical care is on many of our minds. The importance of understanding the Church’s teaching on end-of-life care and ensuring your health care wishes are known is clearer than usual, but nonetheless will remain regardless of an individual’s current state of health or future pandemics. If you need care, and a physician determines that you’re unable to communicate your health care wishes due to physical or mental incapacity, you want to ensure you’ve appointed an agent to speak on your behalf who understands Church teaching, and will respect your values and end-of-life wishes. The Minnesota Catholic Conference has created a health care directive for your easy use which allows you to appoint a health care agent, and also provides some informative answers to frequently asked questions. To learn more or to download the sample directive, visit www.mncatholic.org/advocacyarea/catholic-end-of-life-care-decisions/.

Facilities Tuckpointing Project Update Water intrusions primarily on the east side of the church have caused spalling of the stone and extensive plaster damage, in addition to dangerously slippery floors on occasion. The recommended solution is tuckpointing mortar joints and otherwise redoing the failing areas. Work began last month to be completed later in the year, and the crew is moving forward with some great progress. The cost of the external tuckpointing repair project totals $696,697 and exceeds the scope of the annual budget. If you would like to help underwrite the cost of this project, you can contact the parish office at [email protected] or (651) 696-5401 or donate online at https://nativity-mn.org/tuckpointing-construction-project. Thank you!

Community March Food Campaign - Ends Thursday, April 30 The MN FoodShare March Campaign ends this Thursday, April 30. Now more than ever they can use our assistance due to the consequences of COVID-19. While they are no longer taking food items, checks can be mailed or delivered to the parish office, payable to Keystone Community Services, with “food shelf” on the memo line. Visit https://www.mnfoodshare.org/marchcampaign for more information, or visit https://www.mnfoodshare.org/donate to donate online, noting “Nativity of Our Lord” in the comments. Thank you! Food Shelves In addition to the March Campaign, Nativity donates to the Keystone (https://keystoneservices.org/) food shelf monthly and we encourage anyone in need to take advantage of it. You can also visit the Second Harvest Heartland website www.2harvest.org for information on emergency provisions and directions to the nearest food shelf is near your home. Resources in Times of Need Bridge to Benefits (www.bridgetobenefits.org) is an online one-stop shop for many applications for assistance for individuals and families experiencing hard times. The local United Way has online resources at www.211unitedway.org/ as well as a hotline to call: (651) 291-0211. Mental Health Because this is can be an especially stressful time, it’s also important to take care of your mind as well as body and soul. There are 24/7 mental health crisis numbers in each county. Here are Ramsey County’s:

Abria Life is Wonderful Online Fundraiser Due to the spread of COVID-19, Abria will not have a physical run-walk event for their Life is Wonderful fundraiser, as planned. They still need help, however, in keeping Abria's doors open to save lives by finishing the race to raise $100,000! Please visit https://charity.gofundme.com/o/en/campaign/abrias-life-is-wonderful-virtual-race for more information and to make a donation. With clinics in St. Paul and Minneapolis, Abria provides a safe, non-judgmental, and supportive environment for Twin Cities women and couples experiencing an unexpected pregnancy. Clients experience friendship, hope, and encouragement through positive, life-affirming, and free medical and personal-support services, education, and resources. Thank you for your support! Give Blood A message from parishioner Matt Mundy, M.D.: “In these unprecedented times, as many of you are likely wondering how to help, I encourage you to consider donating blood. If you are willing and able to donate, contact Memorial Blood Centers (www.mbc.org/) or the American Red Cross (www.redcrossblood.org/local-homepage/location/saint-paul-american-red-cross.html).”

Faith Formation Presence Video Study - Mondays (through May 4), 6:30-8pm Missing the Eucharist? Let’s join together online to study the Eucharist as we yearn together for the day we can be back together around Our Lord’s table. Even though the Eucharist appears to be simple bread and wine, we know it is actually the “source and summit” of the Christian life. Presence: The Mystery of the Eucharist (available for free at FORMED.org) explores the truth and beauty of Christ’s real presence in the Eucharist, from its origins in Sacred Scripture to its profound role in the life of the Church and its members. Learn more about how the Eucharist is indeed the crescendo of the entire story. We’ll meet Mondays from 6:30-8pm via the Zoom video conferencing platform from April 13 through May 4. To register, please email or call Katie Schaitberger at [email protected] or (612) 367-7877. There is no cost to join! A link to ZOOM will be provided upon registration. We recommend having a computer to log in, but a cell phone or iPad can work if necessary.

School May Crowning - Saturday, May 2, 4pm All are invited to join Nativity of Our Lord School online for our annual May Crowning ceremony next Saturday, May 2 at 4pm, live-streamed from our parish church. Two Nativity students chosen by their peers for their Marian virtues will crown our statue of Our Lady, and we’ll also hear essays from other Nativity students reflecting on her holiness and example for all Christians. The ceremony will be available live from both our parish website homepage (https://nativity-mn.org/) as well as our Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/NativityStPaul/).

Mass from Home MagnifiKid Missalette for Children During this challenging time, MAGNIFICAT is providing complimentary access to their online version to help people pray from home. In addition to their primary monthly publication, you can also access MagnifiKid, their Sunday missalette for children 6 to 12 years old. Visit https://us.magnificat.net/flipbook/KID/sample/ for an online version, or https://us.magnificat.net/home/freecopy/magnifikid to request a free hard copy for the month of June. Video Mass How-To Watching a video stream of Mass is new to most of us. Fr. Nick has some ideas on how to make the best out of an imperfect situation. Visit https://nativity-mn.org/online-liturgies to watch a video from him, as well as to find our upcoming live-streamed Masses and those already recorded. Live-streamed and archived Masses are also available on both our parish website homepage (https://nativity-mn.org/) as well as our Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/NativityStPaul/). Other Broadcasts Mass is also on Relevant Radio, 1330 AM on Sundays at 9am, with Daily Mass at 12pm. Sunday Mass is on local TV at 11am on KSTC-TV/45. Finally, EWTN (Comcast cable ch. 291) has daily Mass at 7am, 11am, 6pm, and 11pm, and is rebroadcast on channels 14.2, 14.4, and 14.5. Spiritual Communion Whenever anyone is unable to receive Holy Communion — for any number of reasons — we can make a “Spiritual Communion” by praying that Our Lord would come to us when we cannot receive him substantially. We pray this one during our online Masses:

Jesus, I believe you are truly present in the Most Holy Eucharist. I wish, my Lord, to receive you with the purity, humility, and devotion with which your most holy Mother received you, with the spirit and the fervor of the saints. Since I cannot now receive you sacramentally, please come spiritually into my heart. I embrace you as being already there. Amen!

Archdiocese Litany in Time of Need - Daily at 11:05am Archbishop Bernard Hebda asks that the faithful of the Archdiocese — especially school students working from home — to set aside time every day to join together in offering the “Litany in Time of Need.” What a wonderful sign of unity to have us all praying together at the same time for protection and help! Please join him by tuning in to Relevant Radio 1330 AM, www.relevantradio.com, or the Relevant Radio App, where the Litany will be broadcast each day at 11:05am. Visit https://nativity-mn.org/news/litany-in-time-of-need for more information, including a downloadable PDF and a video from the Archbishop.

NCCW 2020 Spirit of Mary Award The Nativity Council of Catholic Women presents our 2020 Spirit of Mary Award. Each year the NCCW recognizes an outstanding young woman who has demonstrated acts of faith, humility, generosity, and kindness through her school, parish, and community involvement. Female parishioners who are currently seniors in high school may apply or may be nominated. The award is a cash prize designated to the recipient’s charity of choice and for her ongoing educational needs. Nomination forms are available on the NCCW website (www.NativityWomen.org), at the Parish Office, or by contacting Peggy Stang at [email protected]. Nominations are due by Friday, May 15. For more information, please contact Peggy at (651) 210-1752.

Archbishop Hebda The Lord Rising in the ‘Strangeness’ “’Something strange is happening — there is a great silence on earth today, a great silence and stillness.’ Those words, from an ancient homily on Holy Saturday, first intended to describe the world on the cusp of the first Easter, seem eerily all-too-applicable to our own situation in 2020. It was into a situation such as this that the Risen Lord first proclaimed his Easter victory over sin and death...” Read his full column at The Catholic Spirit: http://thecatholicspirit.com/only-jesus/the-lord-rising-in-the-strangeness/ .

Teens Biggest Youth Night Ever - Sundays at 6:50pm This past Sunday night, our teens joined over 10,000 (!) other young people from across the country for an online youth night. We played games together, joined in worship together, learned from a brilliant Catholic speaker, and prayed together. This Sunday, we’re doing it again: new speaker, new worship leader, same time. Like last week, the broadcast starts at 7pm, but we plan to log in at 6:50pm to make sure we’re ready when it starts. And parents, if you’re not busy, you are invited to watch along with us — it’s worth it! Visit https://nativity-mn.org/youthministry for more information, including directions to join a video group chat with other Nativity teens. Or just contact Katie Schaitberger at [email protected] for the Zoom link. See you Sunday night!

Reconciliation New Confessions Availability - Saturday-Sunday, 9-10am Confessions are now available on Saturdays and Sundays from 9-10am. Find them at the parish rectory, just next door to the church on the south side at 324 Prior Ave. S.

Online Giving Stewardship from Home Like many individuals, families, and organizations, this time has put a particular strain on our finances. We have had to make some tough decisions as we re-budget to best use our newly limited resources. And while we have made progress, we still have work to do to sustainably operate without a live Sunday collection. We know that many of you are similarly hurting or are otherwise financially vulnerable. However, for those of you who are able, please maintain or resume your usual giving, either by submitting it directly to the parish office or through our website at https://nativity-mn.org/online-giving. And, for those who have the means, please consider making a special emergency gift at this time. Please contact Joyce at the Parish Office at (651) 696-5436 if we can be of further assistance.
