The Saint George Emblem

May be presented: Once in a lifetime Presented to: Individuals, Catholic and Non-Catholic Presented by: The Cardinal or an Auxiliary Bishop at Annual Awards Ceremony Award type: Medal/Ribbon shown at right with certificate

Requirements:

The Saint George Emblem is a national recognition approved by the National Catholic Committee on Scouting. It may be presented to any adult who is working in the Scouting Program, under Catholic auspices, to Catholics in scouting units not sponsored by the Church, and to those who have made a significant contribution to Scouting in the field of Catholic relationships. It can be given to Catholic men and women, priests, religious, and non-Catholics.

The purpose of this program is to recognize the recipient's outstanding contribution to the spiritual development of Catholic youth in the program of the Boy Scouts of America.

Note: The application form has been issued by the National Catholic Committee on Scouting. In most ways, it is very similar to the previously used form.

It should be noted that in the "Guide for Nominations and Selection" the application form states, "work accomplishment and sustained dedication rather than a specific number of years in Scouting should be the criteria for receiving this emblem. "The committee supports this view, but in recognition that this is the highest National Catholic Committee award, there should be a minimum of five years service, not necessarily consecutive or in only one area, as a consideration.

Father Edward Fuller, S.J. Award

May be presented: Once in a lifetime after the Saint George or Saint Anne Emblem Presented to: Individuals, Catholic and Non-Catholic Presented by: The Archdiocesan Lay Coordinator for Scouting and Campfire Award type: Plaque

Background:

Father Edward Fuller, S.J. Award for long and sustained service to Catholic Youth in Scouting and Camp Fire in the Archdiocese of Washington

The Father Edward Fuller, S.J. Award was initiated in 1990 to recognize those living adults who have provided ten or more years of continuous service to Catholic youth in the Boy Scout, Girl Scout and Camp Fire programs, beyond the date they were recognized with the Saint George Emblem or the Saint Anne Medal.

The award is given in the name of the late Father Edward Fuller, S.J., one of the prominent founders of the Scouting movement in the Washington, D.C. area. During his long career as a Scout Chaplain (1935-1983), Father Fuller was Instrumental in nationally developing the Cub Scout Parvuli Dei Emblem, and the Ad Deum per Marian Award for Girl Scouts, and in initiating the first Catholic investiture ceremony for new Catholic Scouts. His deep and genuine interest in the Scouting programs in the Catholic Church clearly influenced the lives of hundreds of thousands of young people, both locally and nationally. The work he did for youth stretched far beyond the years he received the Saint George Emblem and the Saint Anne Medal, and he set an example of continuing service for all archdiocesan recipients of these awards.

Requirements:

1. This living individual must have served at least ten-years beyond the year he or she was awarded the Saint George or Saint Anne Emblem.

2. Such service must have been fairly continuous, and involved work for archdiocesan Catholic youth in Scouting.

3. The award, whenever possible, will be given out at the Annual Archdiocesan Recognition Dinner or Reunion Dinner.

4. No more than three awards will be given out in any one year. 5. The selection of recipients will be made by order of eligibility and certified by the Adult

Recognition Selection Committee, usually at the annual meeting to select Saint George and Saint Anne Emblem recipients.

6. Each person selected will be advised of his or her selection and the date of presentation so that family and friends may be present. Awards will not be awarded posthumously, nor will honorary recognitions be made.
