MASS INTENTIONS My brothers and sisters this weekend we cele-brate the Solemnity of Pentecost. As you know Pentecost is the “birthday” of the Church, this is a wonderful day for all of us. When Jesus rose from the dead, He poured out the Holy Spirit, his first gift, the greatest gift, the gift that contains all other gifts. The descent of the Holy Spirit fulfills Jesus’ promise, that if we love him and keep his commandments, He will ask the Father and the Father will send the Par-aclete, the Advocate, the Holy Spirit. Next Saturday we will rejoice with our young broth-ers and sisters in the celebration of the Sacra-ment of Confirmation. My dear young brothers and sisters, you will receive the Holy Spirit sacramentally, so be faithful to the teachings of Christ and be faithful to the Catholic Church. The Holy Spirit that we received in our Bap-tism and in our Confirmation is the most pre-cious Gift of God, given to the Apostles and to us. For that reason, in this special feast let us pray my brothers and sisters to the Holy Spirit and say: “Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and kindle in them the fire of your love. Send forth your Spirit and they shall be created, and You shall renew the face of the earth”. Have a blessed Pentecost Sunday! Fr. Josue Vargas Lara

Honoring Virgin Mary During the month of May, we will pray the Angelus after each mass in honor of Mary Mother of Jesus and our Mother. We encourage all fami-lies to keep the practice of praying the Rosary every day.

ShareLife Living the Gospel by maximizing the impact of your donation. Admin-istered by St. Elizabeth HealthCare, the Shared Services Initiative is sup-porting other ShareLife-funded agen-cies in the areas of human resources, financial services and information technology. Partici-pating agencies report they are able to improve the quality, competency and accuracy of their work. Through this initiative, ShareLife-funded agencies are ensuring the maximum amount received is directed to the front-line service they provide. Next Sunday, May 27, is ShareLife Sunday. Please give generously.

Mass Intentions We ask the community to kindly request mass intentions ahead of time. Mass intentions to be announced on weekend masses and days of the following week must be requested by Wednes-day of each week. We cannot change dates for mass intentions previously requested. Thank you for your understanding and your co-operation.

Sanctuary Lamp At St. Jude’s, it has become our cus-tom as parishioners to reserve the Sanctuary Lamp, either for our own intentions, or for the intentions of someone we love. Just as the light burns next to the Tabernacle, remind-ing us of Jesus’ presence among us, each time we look at the Sanctuary Lamp, we may pray for the light of Christ to burn in our hearts while we ask him to be next to us. If you wish to reserve a week, please call the office.

Euthanasia & Assisted Suicide Since June 2016, assisted suicide and euthana-sia have been legalized across Canada. We need your help to improve access to palliative care, and to protect the conscience rights of Ontario healthcare professionals and faith-based facilities. In advance of the June 2018 provincial election in Ontario, we have the op-portunity to ask candidates where they stand on these three issues: Legislative protection for healthcare pro-

fessionals' conscience rights Continued conscience protection for faith

-based facilities Improved access to quality palliative care Please write to the candidates in your riding and the party leaders at canadiansforconscience.ca/ontario. It will only take two minutes and can make a big difference. "There are two ways, the way to life and the way to death, and there is a great difference between them.” These wise words from an ancient Christian writer come to mind as we mark Parliament’s enactment of the law implementing the Supreme Court’s decision on euthanasia and assisted suicide, which is a fun-damentally misguided decision. Cardinal Thomas Collins

Pray for Vocations The confused and fear‑filled apostles were totally changed by the outpouring of the Holy Spirit as they became powerful and dynamic proclaimers of their faith in Jesus Christ. In

today's Church God calls priests, reli-gious and deacons to serve Him and to serve others especially by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. If you feel God may be calling you to this ministry, call Fr. Chris Lemieux, Vocation Director, Arch-diocese of Toronto at 416-968-0997 or email: [email protected]

Love, Encountering the Other The Church in Canada has set aside this week as a special time for prayer and reflection on life and the family. At no time in our history has such prayer and reflection been more urgently needed. While we celebrate with joy the gifts of life and family, we must recognize that today’s families are confronted with challenges undreamt of by previous gen-erations of Canadians. For many, family life is a continual cycle between work, school, extra-curricular activities, and meals eaten “on the run”, device in hand. Sadly, the escalating costs of housing, food, utilities and nearly everything else make it difficult for many families to find a healthy balance. The vital role played by individuals and families of faith in our society is brought into focus by recent attacks on the rights of Con-science and Freedom of Religion and by ungrounded assertions regarding other claimed “rights”. As Catholics, we have been entrusted with a unique part in pre-serving God’s original vision for human-ity. It is left to the Church, her faithful and friends to safeguard profound truths

regarding the origins and destiny of hu-manity, the inestimable value of human life from conception to natural death. When we feel overwhelmed by the events of life, let us remember that we have access to the transforming power of the Holy Spirit, breathed forth by the Father; thus giving us the power to fulfill the requirements of the Gospel, encountering others in genuine, selfless, and life-giving love. During this year’s Week for Life and Family, let us ask the Lord to transform us and our families, making us channels of his love and peace in our world.

Planning to be a Catholic School Teacher?

It is critical for you to know that to be hired to teach in any Catholic School Board in Ontario as part of your applica-tion for employment you must provide a letter of recommendation from your Pas-tor. It is highly recommended to contact the pastor a year in advance, especially in light of the fact that all universities make this matter known to every student at the beginning of the year. Please plan to have a conversation with your pastor early in the process (not the week before you are submitting your application) and you will avoid disappointment and stress at the time when applications are to be submitted. The following are required at St. Jude’s: Be (yourself, not your parents or

grandparents) a registered member of the parish using offertory envelopes (at least 1 year before the application).

Be in the parish for participation in Sunday/Saturday mass for a minimum of 12 months prior to approaching the pastor.

Make your request 3 months in ad-vance. Applicant must be the one mak-ing the requests.

No request by a relative or a parent will be accepted .

The pastor has to be able to recommend you, and that is only possible if he knows you at the basic level of regular mass attendance. Personal knowledge of the candidate’s faith practice is what the pas-tor needs to recommend, not your rela-tives, but yourself, as this is a personal recommendation not a family one.
