The Pastor’s Perspective

After yet another advisory from the National Center For Disease Control, I am sad to announce that it is necessary for the Men’s Club to abandon plans for the 18th Annual Trunk or Treat which would have been held for our families with children on October 30th.

The past weeks have also seen a small number of our Seton Regional students quarantined by the St. Charles Department of Public Health; the first due to Covid-19 exposure by way of athletic events and second by a teacher aid’s testing positive in Seton Pre-School.

As of this writing all students have tested negative for the virus in these instances.

I must reiterate the first line of defense against the effects of this disease is following direction offered by Health Authorities.

For doing so, I commend our parishioners and school families for the serious effort taken to protect ourselves, our children, and our neighbors.

Desk screens, social distancing, and masks have been employed in the school building to full effect since the beginning of the new school year.

I also thank our fine parish staff and the Knights of Columbus for their diligence in supplying a safe environment by daily efforts to sanitize the school, church, and parish hall for our communal use.

As you continue to make use of the various suggested methods of protection, please also pray to our Divine Physician, Jesus, for the healing needed by those currently suffering the effect of illness and isolation due to this pandemic.

Father Bob Burkemper

Twenty-Eighth Sunday in Ordinary Time October 11, 2020

Deacon News

This week saw a flurry of diaconal news!

On Tuesday evening, while preparing supper Fr. Bob received a surprise visit from Deacon Bob Brunton.

He came by to share the news that he and his lovely wife, Marianne, had sold their house and would be moving to Florida in late November.

Deacon Brunton’s preaching is always thoughtfully prepared, and his pastoral style is welcoming to all.

He has been a blessing to us here at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton for just over four years and we should be most grateful for all he has shared of himself with us.

While I am saddened at the loss of such a fine deacon—as though on cue—Fr. Bob had just received word that the Archdiocesan Office of the Permanent Diaconate is actively seeking men who may be interested in service in ordained ministry as deacons.

Qualifications for men who may feel a possible call to the work of a deacon in the Church include:

• Faithful participation in parish life for at least 5 years, with the support of his pastor.

• Being between the ages of 30 to 60 years of age when classes begin.

• Having a reputation within the Church and the large community as a man of good character and virtue.

• Being of sound physical & psychological health; with good communication skills, a balanced personality, with a prayerful

devotion and love of the Church. • If married, he needs the full support of

his wife in this matter. • If single, he must have a willingness to

embrace a commitment to celibacy. • Should be capable of theological study

and open to an extensive process of formation.

• Being free of any impediment to the reception of the Sacrament of Holy Orders.

Men interested in attending an Information Night to begin exploring the possibilities of a vocation to the Permanent Diaconate are invited Cardinal Rigali Center at 7:00 PM on either Tuesday October 27th or Thursday November 5th.

Wives of these men are also invited and strongly encouraged to attend this gathering.

If anyone has questions about the ministry of an ordained deacon, please contact one of our three fine deacons, David Ewing, Bob Mayo or Bob Brunton.

Should you have further questions, or desire to reserve a spot at one of the meetings, please contact the Office of the Permanent Diaconate at 314.792.7431 as soon as possible.
