  • The CAUSE is why something happens. It makes something happen, like this bowling ball makes the pins fall. The pins fall because the ball hits them.

  • The EFFECT is what happens. The ball hits the pins, so they fall down.

  • Sometimes a sentence shows the effect right after the cause:The ball hits the pins, so they fall down.

  • Sometimes the effect comes before the cause in a sentence.

    The pins fall down because the ball hits them.
