The CIS Birthday Book Program is Back!

This program is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate your child’s birthday and contribute to the school library at the same time! Once registered by a parent, each CIS birthday star will get to visit the library on his or her birthday to select a book from a special collection to add to the school library with a dedication in honor of that child. The program re-quires a CI$25 donation to help fund this collection. The registration form is attached to this newsletter. Please return the form to homeroom teachers by September 14th so your child can participate in this great program that promotes reading and giving back to the communi-ty. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Ms. Ashley at [email protected]

Way to Go! The library would like to recognize the stu-

dents who partook in the “Chill out with

books” summer reading promotional pro-

gram. These students submitted a list of

books they read over the summer, along with a picture of them “chilling

with a book,” that is posted on the bulletin board in the library. Stop in

to see some of the great experiences our students had! We love to hear

that our students are reading over the summer. The following students

were able to join Ms

Ashley for a popsicle

party today. Great job!

2012/2013 UNIFORM UPDATE Land’s End has made long sleeve polo shirts (in

white or cobalt blue) with the CIS logo available

for PreK3 through Grade 5 students. This is a

nice alternative for parents who want more sun

protection or want their child to have long sleeves

for cooler days. Please ensure your child has a

short sleeve polo as well, as certain events will

require a short sleeve shirt. In addition, we will

allow the early childhood and elementary students

to wear solid white knee socks.

2012/2013 Calendar Please be certain to use this new version (see

attachment) of the school holidays for

2012/2013. Due to the announcement of the

public holidays now scheduled for 2013,

there were slight changes from the original

calendar. The Queen’s Birthday Public Holi-

day is June is still not confirmed, but we

have changed it to reflect the most likely

possibility of June 17 now. The updated

version is now on our website.

Shop landsend.com/schooluniform to get the promo codes.

Over the summer holidays Charlize K. and Josh C. celebrated their 7th birthday togeth-er with their friends from CIS. Rather than asking for birthday presents, they asked for donations. They donated over CI$800, di-vided equally between “Feed our Future” and “The Humane Society”.

Do You Have Uniform Policy Questions? The CIS Uniform Policy and Ordering Guide are available on our website at the following link: http://www.caymaninternationalschool.org/page.cfm?p=392 . We understand that some families

are having difficulty with shoes and socks. To assist, we’ve attached a photo sheet with exam-ples of appropriate shoe and socks. We thank the many parents who have ensured that their children are dressed properly for school each day. Parents can expect that they will be informed when their child is not dressed properly for school.

Middle School Leadership will host its Third Annual Back to School Swim Bash

on Friday, September 14, 2012 from 5:30pm to 7:30pm. The event will be

held in the Camana Bay pool area behind CIS. The entry fee is $5CI per stu-

dent and includes pizza, sodas, and snacks. Students may be dropped off

and picked up in front of the pool. Permission forms will be given next

week and should be returned by Thursday, September 13. This will be the

fun!

IB Kick-Off Event!

The annual CIS IB Kick-Off event will be held September 7th to welcome 11th & 12th grade IB students to this

year’s program.

The students will have an opportunity to spend some time to socialize with IB teachers and visit with 2011/12 graduates and IB Diploma Re-cipients. This will be an opor-tunity for students to share tips for IB success and how to ap-proach the college admissions process. We are looking for-ward to another exciting year of

IB here at CIS!

Welcome back to CIS for another great year! I want to take this op-

portunity to share a bit about myself and also let you know more about

my role at CIS. I moved to Grand Cayman three weeks ago from San Luis

Obispo, California. I received my Bachelor of Arts and Master’s of Science in

Psychology, and a second Master’s Degree in Educational Counseling. I have

worked as a Community Counselor, a University Counselor, and also as a School

Counselor in California. I love to travel, scuba dive, sail, hike, and spend time with

friends and family. I am passionate about working with students to help them lead a happy

and healthy life, and have a long term commitment to advocacy, empowerment, and building a

safer school community. I am looking forward to providing academic, career, and personal/social

counseling to our students at CIS, and am excited to begin working with the Secondary Students on

college preparation and admissions. I am here to support our teachers, students, and CIS families, and

would be happy to meet with you as needed. I look forward to getting to know you throughout the upcom-

ing year. Please feel free to contact me with any questions ([email protected]) or stop by my of-

fice to introduce yourself.

Best Wishes, Ms. Katie

Show rehearsals will commence on the 17th of September. Rehearsals will take place before school and on Fridays after school and times will depend on the part a student receives, with full schedules given to students upon role casting. Students will also be expected to attend two dress rehearsals on the 26th and 27th of November as well as performances on the 28th and 29th of November. We ask that students avoid missing rehearsals, however if there are any situation where missing rehearsal becomes unavoidable then it is the expectation that Ms Annarie should be contacted as soon as possible to inform her of the problem and to allow for a make-up time to be scheduled with the student. There will be a costume charge for the performance cast which will be billed directly to the students account. The cost will vary depending on the character portrayed by each student and will be determined by the number of costumes needed for that character. The costumes will become the student’s property after the show is completed. Please sign to indicate that you accept these requirements to participate in the performance: Parent Signature:_______________________________ Date: _____________________ Student Signature:______________________________ Date: _____________________
